20.01.2022 A women's husband dies and she is kicked out of the home. She goes to stay with her daughter to find her relationship controlling and asks mum to leave or he will get angry with me. She is homeless. Safe Haven Community has a provider that is away in the Sunshine Coast. Lets the women into her home to stay on her own. Neighbour looks in on her every now and then. Have you ever heard of such a thing! A stranger being let into your home! The reason is, she is a Safe Haven Community Provider and trusts us completely with doing our job and what our service provides. www.safehavencommunity.com.au

15.01.2022 Maya Angelou’s traumatic childhood changed the trajectory of her life. She lived in silence for many years, afraid for her safety and the safety of her loved on...es. America couldn’t handle her truth when she finally shared what happened, and was quick to ban her story but it caught like wildfire. This story changed the world and yours can, too. See more

15.01.2022 My very dear friend, Jane, received a gift card from Woolworths and donated to SHC to give to a guest or Provider to use. How very thoughtful. Our blessings to Jane. Something that means the world to someone in need or someone who donates their home to help others.

14.01.2022 We have a woman in care at the moment. She's been with one of our phenomenal Providers just on two weeks now. When she first came to us, she could barely have a conversation where she wasn't crying her heart out, and there were a LOT of conversations. Every time we spoke she would tell me how grateful she was to be looked after so kindly. Her Provider was so welcoming and caring. A few days ago she called me and I could tell by her voice that she had good news. She rang to ...say she wanted me to be the first to hear that she had just been approved for a one bedroom unit. In less than a week, this woman has gone from being broken, lost and frightened to being excited about her future. She cried again when she said her unit was going to be set up and furnished for her. But then she summed up her whole experience with Safe Haven Community in a few words... "Thank you for having faith in me" See more

11.01.2022 Young Georgia Brodrick feared for her life so much that she risked death to escape an abusive partner. She jumped from her apartment balcony - and survived. But now she is recovering from multiple injuries and needs to use a wheelchair. He would sit at the front door and beg me to stay. He’d take my phone off me so I couldn’t call my parents. He’d smash it so it wouldn’t work. I was so trapped, she told The Sunday Telegraph. We were fighting that morning because he’d cheat...ed on me. I called my dad and said: ‘Can you please come and get me, he’s getting violent again’. I had a shower and I don’t really remember the rest because my brain has blocked out the trauma but after that I jumped. He pushed me to that point. I felt like there was no way out of the relationship. See more

10.01.2022 Sadly we only hear about the corruption involved in family court when women and children are murdered by their abuser. These poor children were like millions of children being forced into contact with an abusive parent. Victims of court abuse are gagged by section 121 and cannot speak of their very similar horrific experiences. We demand that the ICL in the case of Jack and Jennifer Edwards, Debbie Morton be bought before a disciplinary body. Her duty was meant to be the "bes...t interests" of Jack & Jennifer Edwards. We call for all Family Court judges, family lawyers, barristers, Family Report writers and other expert witnesses who themselves use coercive control, victim blame, victim shame, threaten and punish victims of domestic abuse to be removed immediately from Family Courts of Australia until they have been investigated and held to account. Debbie Morton ignored evidence of abuse and pressed for contact with the violent father and threatened Olga the children’s protective parent, saying she would recommend the children be removed from their mother if she didn’t facilitate family therapy with their violent father. Hers is not unusual behaviour, but commonplace! Please contact us at NCPA.org.au for support if you have experienced similar court abuse in Australia. 06.01.2022 Many times we hear that men will go to the police and lie about their wives or partners and want things on record. This is how manipulating some of them can be. This is so, when women go to the station to make a complaint, they don't believe them, because the men have got in first!! In this sad situation, 2 children are gone from this earth because of police not thinking the situation was enough of an issue. https://www.smh.com.au//edwards-told-police-his-wife-would

03.01.2022 What a Victor she is! Lisa McAdams is one of Australia's leading trainers in domestic and family violence and workplace employee abuse. She shares her Self Care story in WOW Self Care School that starts tomorrow. After years of enduring horrific DV abuse, do you know what she did after she had managed to get to safety and to reclaim her life? She went and ran the New York Marathon.... Too often we think of victims/survivors of Domestic and Family Violence as vulnerable souls. Not so. Lisa is a shining example of the sheer grit it requires to rebuild your life and it isn't easy. Professional mental health support to deal with the trauma, taking care of yourself and rebuilding connections and financial security are all monumental tasks. Here's the link if you would like to join us https://lnkd.in/fB7DzJ9

02.01.2022 I am so disheartened this morning. Disgusted, angry and saddened. I am finding it very hard to be motivated to even log on to my laptop . Over the weekend I received a call from a woman begging me to get her out of her situation. She apologised for being so emotional while sobbing and trying to breathe. It is not DV she is trying to get out of she did that a few months ago. She is trying to get out of a refuge she has been temporarily placed in. The treatment this woman is b...eing subjected to would not and is not acceptable in the private rental market, so why is it accepted when it is dealt out by a government sanctioned big service organisation one that receives millions in funding every year and no doubt masses of private donations. I’m almost 70, I’m tired, and sometimes I wonder why I’m doing this but then you get an email or text from a woman who Safe Haven Community has assisted, blessing us and telling us we’re guardian angels. Safe Haven Community call our women Guests, and that is how they are treated while staying in the home of our Providers. They are treated with respect, dignity, and kindness and we call on our outside networks to provide the woman with all the information she needs to assist her through her situation. Thoughts and prayers are great, but they do not get a roof over a woman’s head. If you’re in the Brisbane region please help us to help these women support us by coming to our Event on the 1st December, if you’re outside of Brisbane then consider being part of our Fiver for a Female initiative all details for both options are on our webpage. We need your help to help them. See more
