22.01.2022 **** IMPORTANT COMMUNITY INFORMATION **** ** EHRLICHIOSIS ** * Please read and share * There are currently 3 positive cases of Ehrlichiosis, that we are aware of in Karratha. ... We need the community to be aware of this disease and act accordingly to help prevent the spread. Ehrlichiosis is a disease of dogs that occurs when a brown dog tick infected with the bacteria, Ehrlichia canis, bites a dog. Infection with E. canis (ehrlichiosis) is a notifiable disease in Australia. This means if you think a dog has ehrlichiosis, you must call your private vet, DPIRD vet or the Emergency Animal Disease hotline on 1800 675 888. * To help prevent ehrlichiosis occurring * - Treat your dogs for ticks regularly, as well as their bedding and the yard so they are not reinfected by their environment. - Talk to your vet about the tick treatment that is right for your dog some products are longer lasting and/or quicker acting. - Check your dogs for ticks regularly (especially around the neck, head, ears, armpits and belly) and carefully remove any ticks. This is important as tick treatments may not always kill the tick fast enough to stop the dog becoming infected. - Your vet can advise on the best methods of tick removal. They have been treated for ticks now so this wont be an ongoing issue. We are looking for a loving nurturing environment where these delightful dogs can receive the care they so deserve! 07.01.2022 SAFE Karratha are in desperate need foster animal profile writers and photographers, to help get our foster animals adopted. Good photos and creative writing can make all the difference. Brief description:-... Profile writer First of all you do not have to be based in Karratha to be able to do this. The main thing you need is to be to write. You will be given the contact details of animals foster carer (form our weekly list), and your job is to find out about their likes and dislikes, what sort of home they would suit etc and come up with a few paragraphs to describe what you have been told. It can be great fun, you can play on words, base their profile around their name, around a song, anything you like as long as it is truthful and honest. Photographer You need to be based in Karratha, but you do not have to have a fancy camera, but all good if you do. Our only stipulation is that you can take clear and in focus photos of the animal, and be able to email them to us so that we can upload them to our database. You can do either one or the other or both, but we do need that if you commit to assisting SAFE, that you are able to complete the photos and/or profile within the week that you have said you can do them, as the profile and photos are used on our website to show what animals we have available for adoption. If you think either of these are something you would like to do or if you have any further questions please email [email protected] Please share this post so we can get to as many people as we can.

We are trying to find a cat in the local area, that is known to be dog friendly, but who preferably does not live with a dog, who would be willing to allow a SAFE foster dog to visit the cat in its home, and under strict safety guidance and introduction meet your cat, to see how the dog reacts. We have many dog foster carers that do not have cats, so we are unable to test if the dog will be suitable to be adopted into a cat home.
