24.01.2022 ‘The world breaks everyone, and afterward many are stronger in the broken places’ -Ernest Hemingway

23.01.2022 Hi to everyone out there! I hope you and your loved ones are all staying healthy and safe, both physically and mentally. As we are all in the same boat trying to manage change as best we can, I would like to offer my services as the Director of Verbal Judo Australia. The current crisis is impacting on everyone in many different ways and everyone is going to react differently... some well and others not so well.... It is with this in mind that I would like to assist in anyway I can. So if you would like some tips or or have your team participate in on-line training, that will help you manage conflict or navigate difficult conversations, both professionally and personally, please let me know. Remember United we stand, Divided we fall, so lets try and use the gift of Empathy and our words to help each other through this. Regards Trevor

23.01.2022 'There are two different types of people in the world, those who know and those who want to believe' -Friedrich Nietzsche In this climate of fear and uncertainty, its easy to be sucked into a negative mindset. People are feeling very vulnerable at the moment and are looking for something to cling onto to give them a sense of control. ... All I can suggest is don't automatically believe everything you see or hear. There are lots of rumours flying around driven by all sorts of agendas and irrational thinking. Find the Truth out for yourself, don't be a mindless sheep. it takes effort, but in the long run, we are all better off for it. Stay safe out there.

22.01.2022 Oh so true, unfortunately. ‘Anything new or innovative can be scary to a bureaucracy’ -John Douglas From the book Mindhunter.

21.01.2022 Tactical Tip. Don’t tell people to calm down

20.01.2022 Some great feedback: Good morning Trevor, I was part of your Verbal Judo DES training.... I just wanted to write to you and say that I had my first Verbal Judo success today ! it was so daunting to try and structure a conversation with an aggressive caller on the phone. They were very clear about their dislike towards the public sector, I followed the 8 and 5 step the best I could, used A LOT of deflection and provided many options. At the end of the call the caller actually thanked me for not hanging up after he began to swear, apologised for his language and commended me on my phone manner and happily ended the call. Verbal Judo really does work with practice, I will be sharing this win with my team. Thanks Trevor ! Woosha!!!

10.01.2022 Empathy: the single most powerful concept in the English language An excerpt from Doc Thompson’s: The Gentle Art of Persuasion. Let me clarify that while empathizing essentially means standing in the shoes of another or seeing through the eyes of another, I’m not suggesting you have to agree with that person. Obviously I didn’t agree with the superstitious man who held his own son hostage and thought he had to blood-let him. But everyone is entitled to a point of view,... right or wrong, just or unjust. Don’t agree; just try to understand where the person is coming from. Too many people confuse empathy with sympathy. You don’t have to Has sympathize with or approve of another’s actions or words. Just empathize and see how powerful it makes you. Don’t do it to be nice; do it because it’s the only way to hit upon a proper appeal.

10.01.2022 Let’s see how much of whats in this classic piece of literature, relates to art of effective communication. #1 ‘One must approach another person gradually and carefully in order to find them out’ Any ideas on how this relates to to what we teach in VJ?

06.01.2022 It's official VJ Aus is on-line! Given the current climate of social distancing and the traditional "face to face" delivery being placed in hiatus, we are aiming to meet our clients needs virtually. This is a great opportunity to learn some of the basic principles and strategies that have and continue to make Verbal Judo the front runner in Tactical Communications training. No matter who you are, you will gain some very helpful and insightful knowledge from this short course.... IMPORTANT: This training is only available to participants in the Asia-Pacific Region. If you have any questions or are interested in alternative starting times please get in touch. Regards Trevor Lawson

05.01.2022 To Game Something Out -To examine or investigate various possible scenarios, strategies, possibilities, etc., as to how something could be accomplished or may pan out. This is something I discuss in training sessions quite regularly. If you have the luxury of time, it’s a very worthwhile excercise. It really helps to flesh out potential arguments and consider appropriate rebuttals, while also thinking about the best Tactics to use. Very handy in with the 8/5 steps and LEAP...S in navigating difficult, resistive or manipulative individuals. We gamed the conversation out from every conceivable angle. Helps with the Woosha!
