24.01.2022 Over the last few months have assisted several commercial businesses by preventing a serious prosecution following from a catastrophic incident, achieving substantial tenders/contracts, and finally assisting business WHS Systems to become value added compliant and not strictly compliant. e.g. systematic and pragmatic . More recently have assisted the following clients with small business WHS Systems: Tradco, Udder Delights, Key Building Services, JVC Technology, Urbanvirons, Hydroil, Proline and Benson radiology .
24.01.2022 What is value added Compliance as opposed to strict Compliance Whilst meeting with Clients and also at past workplaces, I have been asked how to obtain value added compliance as opposed to strict compliance. Therefore value added compliance:... Ensured the process was systematically efficient, productive and programmatic whilst enhancing or implementing WHS systems; Whilst planning ahead to enhance or to implement WHS systems, ensured the process lead to best practice or leading edge status; contributed to low workers compensation premiums; contributed to good workforce/wellbeing morale; provided innovated activities such as a risk assessment of a (low risk. e.g. out buildings) worksite then exempted the area from the need to conduct emergency evacuation drills; or to added an Exemption Appendix to Electrical Safety Policies containing electrical equipment that has been risk assessed (in non-hostile work areas) then and exempted from the electrical equipment test and tag program (e.g. an office kitchen refrigerator); Utilised the risk assessment process to actually remove unwarranted WHS documentation; Implementing zero cost and simplistic behaviour change initiatives to contribute to continuous improvement and to provide a safe sustainable workforce; ensure continuous improvement of corporation targets (KPIs); and to provided zero harm incident rates.

10.01.2022 David Mallett, from Safety SA was invited to provide professional advice to assist our Company, in submitting a substantial construction tender. This required the submission of a WHS Management Plan Construction Based and a corresponding Residential Park Construction SWMS, to the Principal Contractor. David also advised that whilst providing an enhancement to our WHS System, to improve staff safety, he could also provide a new WHS system, to assist with future successful s...ubmissions in our tendering process. As requested, David provided a WHS Management Plan Construction Based and a corresponding Residential Park Construction SWMS and SOPS. In addition, to the above, David then provided a high standard WHS Action Plan, WHS Policies and Procedures and a Hazard Management Program of: Plant; Hazardous Manual Handling Tasks; WHS Staff Duties and Hazardous Substances risk assessments. Finally, the WHS risk assessments of administration staff duties were completed to include safe work statements to support a one stop shop approach ,therefore reducing our WHS documentation. 04.01.2022 It pays to get WHS right. A client of my mine had a catastrophic incident on Monday 4nd September 2017 In November 2017, David was contacted by Hydroil Pty Ltd after they experienced a serious incident when an externally supplied hydraulic pressure vessel failed, causing a serious near miss incident to a number of workers and damaged to two buildings. SafeWorks SA investigated the incident resulting in the issuance of 4 prohibition and 8 improvement notices and another la...ter improvement notice. After David examined the prohibition and improvement notices, in response he drafted a complex engineering-based Investigation Report. This report contained an additional content to appease SafeWorks SA Inspectors enabling the prohibition and improvement notices to be promptly removed. The Investigation Report contained recommendation to improve worker safety, including the need to revise existing machinery based Safe Operating Procedures (SOPS) to high standard/impact SOPS. To ensure the workers were engaged upon the new high standard/impact SOPS, during early morning toolbox meetings, workers were first consulted upon the high standard/impact SOPS, then trained upon the safe work statements within the SOPS. These toolbox sessions included the consequences of serious non-conformances/hazardous behaviours. To ensure workers were engaged upon the high standard/impact SOPS, a Verification of Competency WHS Procedure, was provided together with a supporting checklist to enable line managers to randomly audit workers upon their SOP and validate their knowledge. Finally, David Risk Assessed all hazardous plant, manual handling, staff duties and plant and placed any of these risk assessments with a residual risk rating of moderate of higher, upon our new Hazard Register. It is certainly important to get the WHS System right, as for the time to resolve the 4 prohibition and 8 improvement notices and another later improvement notice it took from 4/9/2017 to 4/2019 to resolve The investigation utilised complex Australian Standards in context of the various regulations associated with AS4343, AS1200, AS1210, AS3920.1 and the general engineering principals of AS4100 and AS3990.
04.01.2022 Work commencing 7 May 2018 at Hydroil and Proline, will be enjoying 7am starts to engage their workers upon new high standard SOPs, to prevent past very serious WHS Incidents.
