24.01.2022 Good afternoon and a very sad weekend for some. It was sad to see the latest fatality on the news with such high emphasis on controlling the hazards associated with excavation work. Particularly our plumbing and civil customers working in QLD, please make sure you are aware of the minimum controls and methods for excavation as identified in the Excavation Work Code of Practice 2013. Its free from QLD WH&S web site for the code. Go Here http://www.deir.qld.gov.au/workplace/law.../codes/index.htm#h Other Codes that would certainly be good to read are: How to Manage Work Health and Safety Risks Code of Practice 2011 Managing Risks of Plant in the Workplace Code of Practice 2013 Managing the Risk of Falls at Workplaces Code of Practice 2011 THINK SAFE. NO JOB IS THAT IMPORTANT THAT IT SHOULD BE DONE WITHOUT SAFETY !!!!

21.01.2022 A post from www.safetyindustry.com.au. HARD HATS have a usable life. The Australian Standard AS/NZ 1800:1998 and technical research indicate that the usable life should be no greater than 3 years from date of issue. Heavy use and leaving shells in the sunlight and weather when not in use can dramatically reduce the life of a hard hat. Other components like the harness have a much reduced usable life and indications reveal that these need to be replaced every 2 years. ... It may be wise to purchase new hard hats every 12 months to ensure the hats remain effective. A lot of builders are now requiring <1yr old Hard Hats on their sites. Be safe, Stay safe.

20.01.2022 Just had to share this pic ..... frightening on so many levels ! If you are unaware of the minimum standards when undertaking a task, there may just be a Code of Practice or Standard that can provide some direction for you. For all tasks, Identify the Hazards, Assess the Risk, implement Controls to reduce the risk to acceptable levels and Review the effectiveness of those controls. Not to make light of the situation, but I reckon there would be multiple tag lines we could assign to this pic.....

20.01.2022 Behaviours are a result of our beliefs. If we believe that safety is a waste of time and of nil effect, then our actions, communication an behaviours will reflect this belief. An accident is only a behaviour away....... what do you believe ?

20.01.2022 Management commitment is essential for ensuring safety, quality and environmental systems embed themselves into your organisation. Culture is modelled from the TOP. We are heading inland to conduct more safety and environmental system training for a mid tier commercial construction company. Pleasing to see the Directors actively participating in the training.

14.01.2022 A post from www.safetyindustry.com.au. A new electrical exclusion zone safety film has been published for the construction industry. Watch it here. bit.ly/1PhYx4W

14.01.2022 I recently read some company statistics that highlighted the fact that a serious injury can sometimes be the difference of timing and luck !! Don’t let you or your workers become a statistic. Safety is no accident, it takes a constant focus. Have you an eye for safety or are you blinded by bad habits ?

13.01.2022 Risk - is it really worth it? A lot of times accidents happen on sites due to the thinking that the way we have been taught is the safest and quickest. The methods you learned and now model may have been right for when you first started out in the industry. But times, methods and processes change.... most of the time for the better. Are you willing to risk CHANGE to reduce your risks? Think positive, an accident is only a behaviour away ! Stay safe. From the Safety in Industry team.

08.01.2022 Another happy client talking about our Safety Management Plan and operational documentation to meet Tier 1 requirements: "They are awesome mate. They have made my life so much easier and I have been able to run through a bunch of them with the boys and they working perfectly". Adam WA If you're looking for safety documentation that adds value and provides work flow efficiency, give us a call on 1300 99 07 69.

07.01.2022 Mobile plant operations is one of the more significant hazards faced by workers on construction worksites. In most jurisdictions movement of mobile plant is classed as High Risk Construction Work and require a Safe Work Method Statement to effectively control the hazards associated with the plant during the activity. Safe Plant management can be a little confusing and Plant Assessor provide an effective and simplistic view of how this can be managed.... Effective processes need to be implemented in order to manage plant safely and a good Safe Work Method Statement can provide this control. See more

06.01.2022 If you see it, you manage it ! How many times have we walked past an unsafe situation and done nothing about it. The Hazards and Risks we turn a blind eye to, are the Hazards and Risks we are accepting. Do you have an eye for safety or are you blinded by bad habits ? Make safety a reality and don't be a fatality.

04.01.2022 Being a Super-Operator doesn't necessarily make you a Super-visor. Managing and leading people requires skills you sometimes don't learn while you're on the tools. The good news is that leadership is a learnt skill. Get with someone who is a great model to learn from.

01.01.2022 Workers RESPECT what you INSPECT. Observations and audits provide not only insight into the effectiveness of safe work methods, they also provide evidence to workers that you mean what you say.
