17.01.2022 If you’re cleaning up flood affected areas you might come across asbestos containing materials in fences and wall panels, on roofs and other prefabricated panel...s. If in doubt, assume it's asbestos and always wear personal protective equipment. Keep the materials damp using a garden hose, place the materials in strong plastic bags, seal the bags with tape and talk to your local council about safe disposal. Importantly, never use high pressure water or water blasters as this risks exposing yourself or others to airborne asbestos fibres. 13.01.2022 Attention all subbies! A team of special investigators starts work today on exposing building industry rip-offs that have left Queensland sub-contractors out o...f pocket. The Special Joint Taskforce will investigate complaints or allegations of fraudulent behaviour that have led to subcontractor non-payment in the building industry. 13.01.2022 Inspectors on the ground in Townsville and surrounds are finding sections of Gyprock wall sheeting removed from flood affected properties. Depending on what sec...tions of sheeting have been removed, there’s a risk of contact with live electrical cables and connections behind light switches if circuits are not isolated or disconnected. In disaster recovery situations, it may not be feasible to isolate entire houses as this prevents homeowners from performing critical recovery works. That’s why there may be power supply available and why all trades should be aware of the risk. All building trades: Before any wall sheeting is removed, engage a licensed electrical contractor to isolate and disconnect electrical circuits where the wiring and connections of light switches and power points will be exposed.
