24.01.2022 As part of the launch of of our Innovate RAP earlier today, we will be highlighting members of our Reconciliation Working Group this week. SAFC CEO Kate Croser believes that the Innovate RAP, which is being released ahead of the agencys new First Nations Screen Strategy being launched later this year, is an important step in the SAFCs ongoing commitment to supporting the states First Nations screen sector. The SAFC has a long history of highlighting First Nations voices ...and supporting First Nations stories on screen, and as an organisation with storytelling of all cultures at its heart, we recognise reconciliation as one of the most important and pressing social issues of our time, she said. Our Reflect RAP set a roadmap for the SAFC to begin our reconciliation journey and laid the foundations for our organisational approach to reconciliation. Now we continue that journey with this Innovate RAP to advance reconciliation not just within the screen sector in South Australia, but also outside state borders through our projects, programs and initiatives. South Australias First Nations communities are bursting with incredible screen talent, and through initiatives such as our First Nations Screen Strategy, within the important context of reconciliation, the SAFC will continue to bring their stories and voices to the fore.

Currently she has a studio at The Mill, is working with NY based theatre maker Erwin Maas on a self portrait performance called Bodiness 2.0, and was recently nominated for an Aspire Award. ‘Film found me at a time I was beginning to feel a bit hopeless about my artistic ability because I was having trouble drawing. Making my short film I learnt that, by its collaborative nature, film is a great way to bring ideas to life when I couldn’t on my own. It‘s added a whole other dimension to my thinking and approach to my work now. I don’t set out with an intention to send a specific message around disability but my intuition is saying to me it’s something like don’t underestimate me. In the process of making Limited Surrender the Editor asked me what message do you want the viewer to take away from the film? My answer then was I matter.’ You can watch Kirsty's short documentary Limited Surrender via our SA Made Showcase here: https://www.safilm.com.au/?safc_showcase=limited-surrender
