22.01.2022 Raise the Rate for good

21.01.2022 The Payday Loan Debt Trap

20.01.2022 Stop the Debt Trap - Stop Predatory Lending. SAFCA supports the Consumer Action Law Centre campaign to stop predatory lending. The Government had four years to act, and they did nothing. Now we’ve reached a point where thousands of people risk falling into a dangerous debt trap due to their inaction.... With millions of people out of work due to the Covid-19 health crisis, we’re already hearing reports of people receiving unsolicited marketing messages from payday lenders. In one of the text messages we’ve seen, the lender suggests that people use their car as security to get approved for a loan. Predatory lenders know that many in our community are being affected by the Covid-19 emergency and they’ll be seeking to take advantage of the fall-out. There’s only one course of action to protect people during this crisis: Prime Minister Morrison and Treasurer Frydenberg need to shut down predatory lending. Will you sign the petition calling for an immediate six-month moratorium on all payday lending and rent-to-buy activity? SIGN THE PETITION https://consumeraction.us4.list-manage.com/track/click Over the past month, we’ve witnessed extraordinary measures taken by the Government to ensure the safety of our community. Entire industries have been shut down overnight. Newstart support payments, which the Government had previously refused to increase, were doubled. It’s clear that in these unprecedented times, we need unprecedented action to keep our communities safe. For years, the Government was warned that predatory lending was a ticking time bomb. Yet despite review after review, they took no action now we’re at crisis point. The Government needs to shut down these predatory companies to shield our community from financial disaster. Sign the petition calling on Prime Minister Morrison and Treasurer Frydenberg to urgently halt all predatory lending during the Covid-19 crisis. SIGN THE PETITION https://consumeraction.us4.list-manage.com/track/click Right now, millions of people are in a very precarious position and predatory lenders are in a prime position to profit from them. We cannot let them get away with it, please sign and share the petition. Alycia Gawthorne Campaigns & Advocacy Adviser, Consumer Action Law Centre

Around half of those that will benefit are pensioners. The payment will be tax free and will not count as income for Social Security, Far...m Household Allowance and Veteran payments. 11.01.2022 Today, SACOSS (@South Australian Council of Social Service) released their latest Cost of Living update which shows that some households are likely to be better off during the Covid-19 crisis, and calling for people who have not been financially hit to donate to support their local SA charities. Those who lost jobs or working hours have been hit hard, but some households are likely to be better off. This includes those working extra hours, or households that are maintaining t...heir incomes but have lower costs of living including less money spent on petrol and activities outside the home. Charities continue to help those hit hardest while also struggling with the impact of coronavirus. Many have lost the ability to continue their usual methods of fundraising. Others are finding their usual supporters are less able to provide financial support, due to issues with work and income. If your household has newly freed-up income to spare, think about sharing it with those who most need our help. Vital services in the community need your assistance more than ever, to continuing helping the most impacted members of our community. #SAyThanks #ThanksForCaring See more
