08.01.2022 An absolute honour to spend the morning with Professor Temple Grandin today! Internationally renowned for her research into animal behaviour and author of num...erous peer reviewed scientific research papers, Grandin has been a great inspiration to our team as we designed and built Australia's first mobile on-farm abattoir. When we heard Temple was in town for a conference we jumped at the opportunity to meet, 'virtually' walk her through our mobile abattoir and discuss our design - which includes key elements based on her research to minimise pre-slaughter stress, and maximise animal welfare and meat quality. It was an honour to meet with Professor Grandin and we were truly enlightened by her first hand opinion of our operation and mobile unit. Our conversation over breakfast meandered through the regulatory framework in which we operate, to the farmers with which we're partnering right down to the presentation of our quality beef product when it reaches our customers hands. As we shared images and video of our on-farm operations Temple offered poignant suggestions of timely and minor changes that would offer significant improvements to both animal welfare and business viability. Temple is one of the most well-known individuals on the autism spectrum to publicly share insights from her personal experience of autism. She explained that it's her experience as a visual thinker that has given her insight into the minds of cattle, and how they see the world. It has taught her to value the changes in details to which animals are particularly sensitive and to design thoughtful and humane animal-handling equipment. It was a great privilege to meet Temple Grandin today, to have her audience and share with her the way in which her work has inspired Provenir.
