15.05.2022 Harness racing in Australia lost a Champion when Dr Patricia Ellis AM (Trish) passed away peacefully last Saturday. Much has been written this week of Trish and her influence on the veterinary profession, her shaping of the national animal health, welfare and disease response landscape, and the generous mentorship she provided so many during her amazingly full life - but it is her selfless, yet powerful and lasting contribution to our industry that we should remember her the most. 21.04.2022 The SA BOTRA 2YO Pace, run at Globe Derby Park on Saturday night (May 14), was a triumph for the SA Silver Salver Yearling Sale as the first three placegetters Jamaican Rock, Indelible Mase and Nicely Spoken were sold at last year’s sale. Jamaican Rock, a gelding by A Rocknroll Dance from the Modern Art mare Jamaka Run, was offered by Mount Gambier breeders Peter and Lesley Medhurst. He was knocked down for $17,000 to owner Frank Borg. Another winner from the 2021 Silver Salv...er sale was Layla’s Princess (Betterthancheddar-Bubba’s Princess), winner of a SA Kindergarten heat and runner-up in the final. There have been four two-year-old races conducted in SA this season to date and two have been won by Silver Salver yearling sale graduates. By Peter Wharton

05.04.2022 THERE are not enough superlatives to describe Encipher's performance at Globe Derby on Saturday night. First-up since finishing second in the Vicbred Super Series Final in Melton on New Year's Eve, Encipher embarrassed her rivals in the South Australia Oaks. Not only did the Emma Stewart-trained youngster score by 54 metres, she smashed the all-aged track record. With Gaita Pullicino sitting motionless in the cart, the three-year-old rated a freakish 1:52.4 over 1800 metres, ...slashing a second-and-a-half from Mark Dennis' record established in September 2016! Thrilled with Encipher's effort, Stewart stated the filly's time is not a surprise. "I'm not really surprised by that...she is a star," Stewart said. "She's done it easy and wasn't fully wound up. "In fact, this was a one-off appearance as she is owned by a South Australian and when she gets home she'll go back to the paddock. "After another short break she will be aimed at the Southern Cross, Breeders' Crown and Vicbred just like last season as well as the Victoria Oaks." After finding the front from barrier seven, Encipher was never seriously challenged as Flirting and Honeybun filled the placings. Bred and owned by local Tyson Linke, the daughter of Captaintreacherous took her record to six wins and five seconds from 12 starts for earnings of $287,957. See more

13.03.2022 SA TROTS- tonight at Globe Derby Park- follow Lachlan Stace selections below.

24.01.2022 HRSA would like to advise participants and public that racing is definitely going ahead tonight at Globe Derby as scheduled. Thank you

19.01.2022 TALENTED youngster Playa Del Carmen will be given the opportunity to match one of her famous sibling’s feats. Breaking her maiden at Globe Derby yesterday, Playa Del Carmen is being primed for the Southern Cross Series, which begins with heats on November 28. Should all go to plan the Greg Rogers-trained trotter will then contest the Final the following week. By Im Stately from Santa Barbra, Playa Del Carmen is a half-sister to top squaregaiter Kitsilano, which is also a memb...er of Rogers’ stable. A multiple feature winner, Kitsilano captured a Southern Cross Final in 2019. I wouldn’t put her in the same category as Kitsilano as she was a more natural two-year-old, but Playa Del Carmen has enough ability in her own right, Rogers said. She has done a few things wrong, but is getting better as she goes along as she showed yesterday. There is another race for her in two weeks then it will be on to the Southern Cross. With Rogers holding the reins, Playa Del Carmen began safely to lead from three before being eased to take a trail behind Ten No Spur during the middle stages. Angled away from the pegs at the top of the home straight, the filly sprinted to a six-metre win from Ten No Spur, with All That Glitters 123 metres away third. Covering the last half in 63 seconds, the two-year-old rated 2:08.7 over 1800 metres. I was pleased with the way she got away from the tapes to find the front early, Rogers said. After that she put in a few rough strides when Ten No Spur came up to her so I was happy to take a trail to help her concentrate. Having mentioned Kitsilano, the mare is back in work following a stint on the sidelines due to a hairline fracture in her offside back leg. Kitsilano hasn’t raced since her unplaced effort at the troubled venue on March 22. I’m not certain when she did it, but it does explain her last few runs, Rogers said. She was given time to recover and had her leg re-scanned last month and it came back all clear. She is jogging up nicely at the moment and can hopefully come back to her best. - PAUL COURTS See more

18.01.2022 ON PAPER it appears to be the perfect draw, but whether it pans out that way remains to be seen. That’s the view of trainer Bec East ahead of the opening Southern Cross heat at Globe Derby tonight. In what shapes as a stellar meeting, 10 Southern Cross qualifiers across four categories are on the card. East is set to contest the heat with in-form filly Eastbro Adele, which has drawn the pole. Normally drawing the pole would be a good draw, but I’m not sure how it will turn o...ut for her, East said. My concern is whether she can hold those drawn outside her out or whether she’ll be buried along the pegs. Away from her worries about the start, East has no such doubts regarding Eastbro Adele’s ability to continue her winning way. The daughter of Shadow Play goes into the series with victories at her last four outings. She is in great condition and is ready to run another big race, East said. I couldn’t be happier with her. As long as she can progress to the Final I will be thrilled. Despite drawing the outside of the second row, Belladonna Girl is a short-priced favourite for Greg Norman on the strength of her last start fourth in an Australasian Breeders’ Crown Final. TAB Fixed Odds has the three-year-old at $1.55, with Eastbro Adele the second elect at $2. Greg’s filly is the one to beat, East said. She has been running solid races against strong company. - PAUL COURTS See more

11.01.2022 QUALITY filly Dancing Finn continued her charge towards her main target with another victory at Globe Derby last night. Stretching her winning streak to eight, Dancing Finn is being readied for the Southern Cross which begins with heats at the troubled venue on November 28. Should all go to plan the daughter of A Rocknroll Dance will then contest the $50,000 Final the following week. Despite Dancing Finn’s impeccable form trainer Lance Holberton is short of confident ahead of... the futurity. I couldn’t be happier with her, she is doing an amazing job, Holberton said. She is doing everything right and is exactly where I want her at this stage as we work towards the Southern Cross. That’s going to be another level for her though as some good ones like Treachery come over from Victoria. We’ll just have to keep doing our best and see how she goes. Driven by popular reinsman Ryan Hryhorec, Dancing Finn led throughout from barrier seven to score by four metres from Bettaminethanyours. Kahina was a metre-and-a-half away third. That was another nice run from her, Holberton said. She did it well within herself. I’ll give her one more start in a couple of weeks which will keep her right at her peak for the Southern Cross. Rating 2:00.1 over 1800 metres, the two-year-old completed a family double after her half-brother scored in the previous race. Also trained by Holberton, Regal Lager rated 2:01.9 over 2230 metres to account for Grey Maverick and Tezz Khora. With Michael Smith in the cart, Regal Lager stretched his record to 23 wins and 40 placings from 152 starts. He did well, Holberton said. I’ve got nothing particular in mind for him, just keep trying to find the right races. See more

09.01.2022 SOME things are just meant to go together. Peas and carrots, bacon and eggs, milks and cookies, Ike and Tina, Amber and Johnny just to name a few! Another lesser-known coupling seemingly destined to be joined is descendants of Larrakeyah Lady and the Southern Cross. During the past decade Larrakeyah Lady’s bloodline has developed an extraordinary attachment with the futurity. Following last night’s heats it appears certain that link will continue next weekend when this season...’s Finals are conducted at Globe Derby. Although no longer alive, Larrakeyah Lady’s daughters, granddaughters and great granddaughters are constantly extending her amazing legacy and Southern Cross association. Larrakeyah Lady is the gift that keeps on giving, prominent breeder-owner Peter Gleeson said. And now with so many of her generations producing good winners it is amazing. With the way the breed is going, I can’t see any reason why it will stop. That’s the one thing about this bloodline, while the colts have done well, the fillies by far been the better. A handy racehorse, which captured the 1989 Victorian Sires’ Stake Final at Moonee Valley, Larrakeyah Lady has proven to be a broodmare wonder, with nine winners from 10 starters, including Safe And Sound, Massarua, Gold Rocket and The Good Times. One of Larrakeyah Lady’s daughters Lifeline has a particularly strong connection to the Southern Cross Series. Already responsible as the dam, grand dam and great grand dam of five Southern Cross champions, the unraced Lifeline will be represented by another member of her family in the Group Two. Treachery, a granddaughter of Lifeline, is the pre-draw favourite in the two-year-old fillies’ division. Winner of her heat, the Emma Stewart-trained Treachery is no stranger to success at the troubled venue having captured the Group One The Allwood in March. I’m extremely pleased with the way she is going, Stewart said. She’s proven herself against the best of her crop and showed her class again last night after doing all the work. After sitting outside the leader, Dancing Finn, Treachery powered her way to an eight-metre win from the front runner, with The Sneaky Fox six metres away third. Rating 1:59.6 over 1800 metres, Treachery’s time was 1.4 seconds quicker than Treasure Rainbow in the following heat. Driven by Wayne Hill, Treasure Rainbow led throughout from barrier three as Bettaminethanyours and Milliondollar Kiss filled the placings. Also partnered by Hill, Miss Lemon rounded out the heats when she rated 2:02.5 to account for Kahina and Mischievous Maggie. See more

06.01.2022 REIGNING champion Ona Highway Tohell is set to endure a difficult title defence from the outset. Engaged in the opening Southern Cross heat for three-year-old colts and geldings at Globe Derby on Saturday night, Ona Highway Tohell will clash with the two top challengers. To make matters worse, the pair have also drawn better! Winner of his last four starts, Sir Lucas will begin from barrier two, with Pebble Sands which boasts three wins and a second from his last four outin...gs drawn the pole. Ona Highway Tohell has won his two starts following a 20-week break. I couldn’t be happier with the way he is going, but whether that is good enough I guess we’ll find out, owner-trainer Matt Maguire said. Sir Lucas is in sensational form and is the one to beat in the series, while Pebble Sands is also bringing strong form into the heat. Ona Highway Tohell captured last season’s Final when prepared by record-breaking Victorian trainer Emma Stewart. To be driven by Wayne Hill, the son of Betterthancheddar has drawn barrier four but slots into three with the removal of the emergency. He’s had two starts back and is just where I want him going into the heat, Maguire said. I would have preferred he drew better than the other two, but as long as he qualifies for the Final I will be happy. Then I’ll just have to hope for a good draw in that. - PAUL COURTS See more

06.01.2022 Dear participant: As a consequence of the current lockdown restrictions all race meetings and trials scheduled for Sat/Sun/Mon & Tues have been abandoned. We will continue to keep you updated with all developments. Kind regards, Ross Neal

05.01.2022 Dear all, Given the latest Covid developments we are working towards conducting a race meeting at Globe Derby on Monday afternoon. Please stand by for further information

05.01.2022 VICTORIAN raider Treachery has been afforded no favours in her return to South Australia. Winner of The Allwood at Globe Derby earlier in the season, Treachery will head back to the troubled venue for tomorrow night’s Southern Cross heats. Engaged in the first of three qualifies in her division, the Emma Stewart-trained filly has drawn the outside of the front row. Despite the awkward starting position Treachery is a $1.40 favourite. It’s not the best draw, but it’s not a pr...oblem either, Stewart said. With a scratching there are only six in the field so no matter where she settles she won’t be far off the pace. She’s proven she is a high class filly and will be extremely hard to beat. Boasting three wins and three seconds from seven starts, Treachery’s unplaced outing was in last weekend’s Australasian Breeders’ Crown Final where she endured a torrid run. After being caught three-wide before settling in the ‘death seat’, the daughter of Captainthreacherous was then shuffled through the field to be three-back in the running line before again being taken three-wide without cover along the back straight Nothing went her way in the Crown Final, but she has pulled up fine and is ready to go again, Stewart said. The run took its toll up the home straight, but she never stopped fighting on. She’s had an easy but steady week and will be fine come Saturday night. Winner of her last eight starts, including beating the ‘boys’, Dancing Finn is the obvious danger from barrier four. The daughter of A Rocknroll Dance slots into three as a result of the scratching. Dancing Finn has looked very impressive and seems to be getting better with each run, Stewart said. She’s also drawn to go forward and will take a bit of running down. - PAUL COURTS See more
