22.01.2022 Just because its a Monday, we thought wed post an interesting fact about Vietnam thats not food related. Did you know that white skin is considered perfection?? In the West, tanned skin is usually regarded as more ideal than pale white - usually a sign youve had a great holiday. Hence the popularity of tanning / sunbeds. In Asia, particularly Vietnam, the complete opposite applies. White is considered the ideal skin colour and any form of tanned skin frowned upon becau...se it's a sign of being a labourer working in the sun. As a result, whitening products are big business across the country and the Vietnamese ladies cover up as much as possible when in the sun, whether they're working the fields or at the beach! There you have it friends! This is why you will often see Asian women with their hats and gloves on, and walking in the shade only.

22.01.2022 Lest We Forget. Ode of Remembrance With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children ... England mourns for her dead across the sea, Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free. Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres, There is music in the midst of desolation And glory that shines upon our tears. They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow, They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They mingle not with their laughing comrades again, They sit no more at familiar tables of home, They have no lot in our labour of the daytime, They sleep beyond England's foam. But where our desires and hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the night. As the stars shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain, As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain. 21.01.2022 Bun Bo Hue (pronounce it like Boon Bor Hwei) is one of the most popular noodle soups in Vietnam. The main ingredients of this famous noodle soup are Bun and Bo, when translated to English, the former means rice vermicelli and the latter is beef. People added Hue at the end of it to determine the origin of the noodle soup. Bun bo Hue is totally different from the usual pho as the rice vermicelli is thicker and cylindrical and it has this distinct taste and mild to spicy flavor. If youve had enough of Pho, you must try this one. Oh so tasty!!

18.01.2022 To Pho or not to Pho that is the question.... Pronounce it like FUH or FUR. Pho is the perfect comfort food - warm, hearty and deliciously refreshing. In Vietnam it's the common people's food. It's street food. You cannot expect two bowls of pho made in two separate kitchens to ever taste the same. That is why, at Saigon Eats, we have strived to keep it as authentic as possible. You can choose between the traditional Beef or Chicken Pho. Then wash it all down with our homes...tyle Lychee Lemonade. un-PHO-gettable! Xinh Moi

11.01.2022 As we hit the weekend (and school holidays!), some of us will need a hit of caffeine to help survive the day. At Saigon Eats, customers often ask us what is different about our Viet Iced Coffee. Well, we asked our mate Google, and this is the best answer - Vietnamese coffee is almost always Robusta. The usual coffee bean is Arabica, since it is the main type of coffee exported by Brazil, the world's largest exporter of coffee. Vietnam is the world's second largest exporter o...f coffee, but the main bean is Robusta instead. In Vietnam, Robusta is the traditional bean and also one of the cheaper ones (for obvious reasons) as well. Robusta is almost twice as strong caffeine wise (2.7% wt instead of Arabica's 1.5%), making it a bit more bitter, as caffeine itself is bitter. Furthermore, it has 60% less lipid (fat) and sugar than Arabica, so the taste is sharp and less casual than your usual cup of coffee. Unlike Arabica, which is mellow and easy-drinking, Robusta is often compared to burnt tires and rubbery in taste with a thick lingering taste and higher acidity. For many Vietnamese, only the strength of Robusta is the way to go. Our coffee is sweetened with condensed milk and is served over a generous scoop of ice. Perfecto!! #ineedcoffee #coffeenow #vietcoffee

10.01.2022 Interesting Vietnamese Food Fact - One of the amazing Vietnamese food facts to be mentioned is that most Vietnamese dishes do not contain gluten. People with anti-gluten syndrome can enjoy Vietnamese food without worrying. Rice is widely grown in Vietnam and it is a major part of every meal. Bun, Goi Cuon and Banh Pho are made from rice and rice flour instead of wheat like those made in Western countries, so they do not contain gluten. And there are certain dishes which we use soy sauce to marinade the meat (soy sauce is thickened with flour). Please feel free to ask us for gluten-free suggestions.

03.01.2022 Interesting Food Fact about Vietnamese Food - We love our herbs!! Vietnamese people will use mounds of herbs in our dishes, which make for very fresh and delicious meals. The herbs used are diverse and plentiful and accompany practically all meals. Raw herbs are served in a huge bowl and they are chopped, tossed, rolled and wrapped into dishes. We add it to soups, rice, baguettes, rolls and noodles. We believe that the fresh and simple herbs bring forth the delicious flavors ...of the foods. You will never find a herb-less table where Vietnamese food is served. Nom, nom, nom
