13.01.2022 Back online here but still no power. Please check in & let us know youre OK.

13.01.2022 SAILING CANCELLED MON 10.2.20: Looks like weve been snookered by the weather again, unfortunately. Theres a severe weather warning from Marine Rescue. This is mainly for the coast, but even at Nelligen theres a strong wind warning for tomorrow, and more rain forecast, particularly in the morning.... Hopefully this will clear up by our next sailing day Monday 17th February. See you then! - TM

12.01.2022 SAILING DAY REPORT MON 17.2.20 - MILESTONE DAY! For those who werent there today, it was a milestone day in Sailability Batemans Bays history. We finally have a C-Crane. Edie was the lucky star who was our first client to use it. Peter Ward was our second sailor to use it, and he was really happy to not have to get his feet wet, and generally a much more comfortable way for him to be lowered into the boat.... Ben was the only other Life Without Barriers sailor along today, so of course he had to go first (we love Bens enthusiasm!) and he jumped in early. Skippers today were Allan and Bob who took turns with our sailors. As there were only three sailors and a bare quorum of volunteers, we just had one boat in the water today, 303 Poppy. The water was still very mucky after the recent downpours, and there was still lots of river debris, but not as much as last week, so it was manageable. Michael Leydon and Peter Glen were on our support boat Jay-Bee today, and helpfully brought in several large flotsam sticks (logs, really) which we all put in a pile for the Council to collect. At least this week the water was a bit transparent; last week it was like liquid mud! When we arrived today, the water was pure "glass" ie no wind at all, but as Allan took Ben out, we watched his sails gently fill, and they got moving, and the breeze steadily improved through the day, just to about 8 knots, but that was optimal for our very first day using the C-crane and hoist. It was also convenient from a safety point of view that Jay-Bee didnt have to do any rescue sprints as there was no way to speed with hidden obstacles in the water. Huge thanks for our C-crane go to Peter Glen who has been liaising with Beau Outridge from Maritime and the Bridge crew to finally get this installed for us. It required surveys of the pontoon, etc, to ascertain suitability and position for the mounting, so was a rather complicated process. This (finally!) brings us in line with most of the other Sailability groups in Australia, and indeed the world. Thanks to our dedicated core of volunteers today (several people were away due to medical appointments, family commitments, etc): Tish, Michael L, Peter G, Allan, Bob, Dana & myself. Thanks Lucy from LWB for couple of great photos - only 2 here, Edie & Bob, Allan & Ben, but more to come. See you all at our next sailing day MONDAY 24th FEB!

12.01.2022 SAILING THIS SUNDAY 2nd FEB: Im hoping the weather is OK for sailing this Sunday. * Its supposed to cool down a bit after Saturdays heat wave. An afternoon shower is a possibility, but we are looking forward to seeing you all from 10.30am at our usual spot at Nelligen Boat Ramp.... *If sailing is ever cancelled due to bad weather, we will send out a post to let you know before 8.30am on the day. (If youre having trouble with your email on the day, please feel free to pm me any time after 7.30am) -- Terry McDonough, Acting Secretary Sailability NSW, Batemans Bay, PO Box 3337, Batehaven NSW 2536 [email protected] WEBSITE: www.sailabilitybatemansbay.com

12.01.2022 SAILING THIS MONDAY 16th DECEMBER: Its Christmas time! Please come along to our Christmas Sailing Day, and last sailing day of the year, this Monday 16th December. ... Hopefully the bushfires are over, and we sincerely hope everyone has survived without damage. Good news - the Lions Van will be coming along providing sausage sandwiches to all sailors! Some of us might bring a few extra snacks as well. We look forward to seeing you all from 10.30am at our usual spot at Nelligen Boat Ramp. Hopefully we can all get a sail in before lunch time. Trailer crew 9.30am the yard, thanks. Please confirm by replying to my email. If sailing is ever cancelled due to bad weather, we will send out an email to let you know before 8.30am on the day. (If youre having trouble with your email on the day, please feel free to contact me any time after 7.30am) - Terry McD (Acting Sec).

11.01.2022 Were all living differently at the moment and many of us are missing human interactions and having random conversations. Renee - a volunteer crew member, race ...program participant, and passionate person with a disability - will be available to chat via our Facebook Messenger platform So just send us a message to get started

11.01.2022 Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 situation, Batemans Bay Sailing Club has cancelled the Anzac Regatta. I know several of our sailors were really looking forward to it. Theyre organising next years regatta for 24th & 25th April 2021.- TM.

11.01.2022 SAILING DAY REPORT MON 16.12.19: Today turned out to be another good sailing day for us at Nelligen - despite the terrible bushfires plaguing the region, many of our regular volunteers away, and the Kings Hwy being closed again. We were delighted the Lions crew Bob, Jacki and Trish were able to come down and set their van up for a sausage sizzle for all our volunteers and sailors. They brought lollies too, which were also very popular. Not only are they a wonderful group wh...o look after many local charities, but they also made a special announcement that Sailability will be beneficiaries of their Charity Golf Day in August 2020. We love our Lions! Due to many volunteers being away with Christmas commitments or bushfire dramas, we only had enough volunteers to get one 303 on the water today, and it was Bobs lucky day as skipper of Slime. First he took out Ben and later he took out LWB new client Jimmy. As I think it was Jimmys first time in a sailboat, I snapped a picture of him coming back to the pontoon. I think he liked it very much and could be a regular sailor with us which would be fantastic. Life Without Barriers brought down a happy crowd of Jodie, Edie, Ray, Peter Ward, Ben and Jamie, but only Ben and Jamie were up for sailing day. Edie had been to gym and Ray was on his way. As always, a huge thanks to our volunteers who came out today. Tish and Michael came down to help, even though theyve been terribly busy moving house and evacuating from a fire zone. - by all accounts, exhausting work. It was great to see Sue Novak who brought grandson Luca who was a great help running back and forth on the pontoon with stuff for us. Sue made an amazing Home-Made Rocky Road which was VERY POPULAR! Thanks too to volunteers Allan Rees and Martyn who had other commitments today, but still helped out with the morning towing run. Peter Glen and Andy were on safety boat duty, and as mentioned Bob was skipper for the day. Thanks to everyone who pitched in setting up and packing up today. It was great to see carer Gemma, whos not long back from the UK. Mark and Danielle were the other LWB carers today. Wed like to wish all our wonderful volunteers, carers and sailors all the very best for the Christmas season and look forward to seeing you in the New Year! First sailing day for 2020 is MONDAY 13th JANUARY. See you then! - T.McD(Acting Sec).

11.01.2022 SAILING CANCELLED TODAY 2.2.20: In view of proximity of fires (1 near Nelligen), smoke haze & imminent rain SAILING IS CANCELLED TODAY. Im really sorry to miss our Sunday sailors, many of whom cant come on our Mondays, but I think youll agree weve had a shocking couple of months down here on the South Coast. -Terry, Sailability

10.01.2022 WELCOME BACK TO SAILING - this Monday 17th Feb.* Well after a rough start to our 2020 season, we really hope we get a break with the weather this coming Monday. Its looking pretty good so far, so we look forward to seeing you all from 10.30am at our usual spot at Nelligen Boat Ramp. Were going down this afternoon to check the state of the river debris, which has hopefully cleared after last weekends storms.... *If sailing is ever cancelled due to bad weather, we will send out an email & post to let you know before 8.30am on the day. (If youre having trouble with your email on the day, please feel free to PM me any time after 7.30am)

10.01.2022 SAILING CANCELLED TODAY. Sorry folks, we went down to Nelligen & it was cold & windy. Then it started to rain. Were doing some equipment maintenance instead. See you next time! -TM.

10.01.2022 Memories: 2016 Anzac Regatta. Such a beautiful day today, & not a sail in sight out at Corrigan's. Looking forward to 2021.

09.01.2022 Congratulations all! But especially our own Michael Leydon!

09.01.2022 Here's an inspiring story from the other side if the world! Fair winds to ya!

08.01.2022 *IMPORTANT: AFTERNOON SAIL SUNDAY 1st DECEMBER: This Sunday is a special day - with the Batemans Bay Sailing Club sailing/motoring their yachts up the river to Nelligen. We are looking forward to joining them for a lunch and an AFTERNOON get-together, and hopefully a family sailing day too. We are presently quite short of SUNDAY VOLUNTEERS, so if you were thinking of coming down and helping out, please do! Your help would be most appreciated, especially on this or any of ou...r Sunday sails. We look forward to seeing you all from 1.00PM at our usual spot at Nelligen Boat Ramp. Weather-wise the forecast has improved, and now the rain should fall mostly Saturday afternoon, and hopefully wash away the haze and put out any remaining fires in the area. High tide is in the middle of the day, and some 10 knots or so breeze is forecast. Dont forget our BUNNINGS BBQ TOMORROW! *If sailing is ever cancelled due to bad weather, we will send out an email to let you know before 8.30am on the day. (If youre having trouble with your email on the day, please feel free to contact me any time after 7.30am) - TM Acting Sec.

08.01.2022 SAILING DAY REPORT, SUN 1.3.20: Summer lingered on today. Although it was the first day of Autumn, it was at least 30 at Nelligen, and about 32 as we packed up. A beautiful sunny day meant there was a fair bit of boat traffic at Nelligen, with queues at times for the boat ramp. We had much more breeze than was forecast, so some great sailing today. I just checked the retrospective weather and the real life wind gusts were about 16 knots.... Witho and Dana took support boat Jay-Bee out for the morning shift. We were happy to welcome back sailor Lachie Mortlock, who cant come to our Monday sailing days. Lachie went out with Bob in Poppy, and in fact was our only visiting sailor today. We did have various friends pop in - Sally visiting from Sailability Sunshine Coast, and my sailing neighbour Fred Tromp and wife Marie, and another neighbour Ian, ex-Navy, with his cute dog Mia. These people were around as it was just a perfectly beautiful day down at Nelligen. Peter Glen came down to say hello and to get us organised for our next committee meeting on Wednesday 2pm at the Soldiers Club. After a few practice sails before lunch, we decided to have a bit of race training after lunch, as a few of our volunteers will be participating in upcoming regattas. Bob was on Poppy, Tish was on Finesse and Tony was on Slime, as they took off for 3 races around various improvised marks (ie moorings). Peter Witho, myself and Michael were on support boat Jay-Bee which acted as Start Boat. All three sailors had some good moves with a few shouts of "starboard" (always good in racing practice), and all three took the lead at different points, but overall Bob came out as winner, with Tish second and Tony third. Lots of fun. Thanks to all volunteers today: Tish, Michael, Tony, Terry, Bob, Dana and Peter Witho. Thank heaps to Michael, our race officer, who took these great photos from the Start boat. Hope to see you all at our next sailing day: MONDAY 9th MARCH. - TM(Sec)

08.01.2022 SAILING IS ON THIS MONDAY 9th MARCH: We look forward to seeing you all from 10.30am at our usual spot at Nelligen Boat Ramp. If sailing is ever cancelled due to bad weather, we will send out an email to let you know before 8.30am on the day. (If youre having trouble with your email on the day, please feel free to ring or msg me any time after 7.30am)

07.01.2022 To take our minds off the dreadful bushfires, heres an inspiring story about Sailability Albany WAs Rob Cridge. Thanks Sailability Dobroyd for sharing. -TM

07.01.2022 Memories: 2016 Anzac Regatta. Such a beautiful day today, & not a sail in sight out at Corrigans. Looking forward to 2021.

07.01.2022 Thanks Hansa UK for sharing this. Most of us here at Sailability Batemans Bay NSW had no power last Monday when this aired on TV (due to the bushfires). Chris Symonds is an Aussie legend!

07.01.2022 Lovely memory from 12 months ago today - 8 April 2019 at Nelligen. Looking forward to getting back on the water next season. Hope everyone has a happy and safe Easter. -TM for the Committee. SBB.

07.01.2022 SAILING DAY REPORT, MON 20.1.20: Well, despite an ominous forecast, we had a good first sailing day for 2020. We put 2 x 303s in the water, Slime and Poppy, and Squirt was our safety boat.... Peter Witho and Sandra jumped in Squirt, then, as Life Without Barriers had arrived, Ben had his life jacket on ready to go out first, and Bob took him out in Poppy. Peter Ward was going to go out, then changed his mind and decided not to. Ray was going to gym, so he didnt go sailing either. Hopefully theyll get a good sail next time. Meanwhile Tony took Slime out for a solo sail and had a good run. A nice ENE breeze had picked up with a few gusts. Bob brought Ben back and then took Sandra out and they had a good sail too. We were just packing up a bit earlier than usual at around 1pm when the skies opened, so the boats (and crew) got a bit of a wash as we packed up, but we were very pleased to get a days sailing in before the weather turned. Thanks to our limited number of keen volunteers today, just 7 of us, Tish, Peter Glen, Tony, myself, Sandra, Bob and Peter Witho. Next week is the long weekend, so we wont be sailing. Our NEXT SAILING DAY is SUNDAY FEBRUARY 2nd. Hope to see you there! Congratulations to Michael Leydon who is currently No.1 in the 2.4 division at Sail Melbourne! -- Terry McDonough, Acting Secretary

05.01.2022 *SAILING MON 20.1.2020: Hi everyone! Happy New Year, and hope you all survived the bushfires. We had a lovely gathering at Tribe Caf last Monday and are really keen to get back to sailing.... This coming Monday 20th January will hopefully be our first day back for 2020. Unfortunately the weather isnt looking very promising, with all this lovely rain forecast to continue, and not much wind either. Well have to wait until Monday morning to know what the days going to be like. *I will definitely put out an email & FB post if sailing is cancelled, but heres hoping we have a few hours of fine weather. Hopefully, well see you from 10.30am at our usual spot at Nelligen Boat Ramp. *If sailing is ever cancelled due to bad weather, we will send out an email to let you know before 8.30am on the day. (If youre having trouble with your email on the day, please feel free to pm me any time after 7.30am) -- Terry McDonough, Acting Secretary [email protected] WEBSITE: www.sailabilitybatemansbay.com

05.01.2022 SAILING THIS MONDAY 24th FEB*: Weather is looking really good for Monday - sunny and 29 with a light breeze and high tide at 10.30am. Welcome back to Narooma High, who will be bringing us about 6 sailors.... We look forward to seeing you all from 10.30am at our usual spot at Nelligen Boat Ramp. *If sailing is ever cancelled due to bad weather, we will send out an email to let you know before 8.30am on the day. 04.01.2022 Terribly sad! Condolences to family and friends from all at Sailability Batemans Bay

04.01.2022 REMINDER: SAILING CANCELLED TODAY DUE TO FIRES.REMINDER: SAILING CANCELLED TODAY DUE TO FIRES.

02.01.2022 SAILING DAY REPORT, SUN 1 DEC 2019: Yay! We finally got a Sunday sailing day. Unfortunately, theres bushfires all over the place, and alerts were upgraded this afternoon and we had to pack up quickly, but we did manage to get a few good sails in. Today was supposed to be a get-together with the Batemans Bay Sailing Club, but unfortunately the fire dramas meant a lot of sailors either couldnt get down from Canberra or didnt want to risk sailing up the river, when a couple... of fires are burning in the region. Another adverse fact, ironically, is that the stronger winds (which we sailors like) meant the increase in fire danger. So we did manage to get 3 x 303s on the water for an afternoon sail, and Jay-Bee was our support boat. We were very pleased to welcome back the Toyer family, and thank them for joining up as full members, even though they can only make our Sunday sailing days. After Witho and George got Jay-Bee out on the water, Kate was first to jump aboard Slime to get out for a solo sail. Gusty winds meant she took on water, but had a great fun sail. James decided hed like to go out on Jay-Bee today, so he jumped aboard and held the the bows lookout position. Martyn took his friend Fiona out in Poppy next, and they had a good run about the river. Tish brought Pumpkin down for her first sail this season, and had a great solo sail. While she was out on the water, we happily tucked into her chocolate-walnut-ginger brownie cake she had made (Yum!). We also had some healthy fruit snacks, and I dont think we got round to tasting Georges Stollen cake - maybe next week! Visiting sailor Doug Bruce was visiting Nelligen with his dad Graham, and was happy to go out for a sail with Kate. Later, Michael took Poppy out for a sail on his own, but enjoyed being on the water with Tish. Shore crew Tara was keeping an eye on the fire alerts and noticed they had been upgraded about 3.30pm, so we all came in and packed up rather quickly, along with all the other tinnies and fishing boats out today, so of course it was a bit of a traffic jam at the boat ramp, but we all managed. A hazy old day. Big thanks to Tara for getting a few photos for us. And thanks to Michelle aboard Horizon who took some great photos of their raft-up. Thanks of course to all our volunteers today - Tish and Michael, Peter Glen, Martyn, George, Dana, Kate and Witho. We were really pleased to see Jocelyn who popped in to say hello, but had to go and check out neighbours who were in a fire danger area. A special thanks to all who assisted with the Bunnings BBQ yesterday - apparently it was a possible record-breaker as a fundraiser! (Totals yet to be counted). Brilliant work all, and a special thanks to Tish who organised it all. Next sailing day: Monday 9th December. Lets hope these fires settle and can we even hope for some rain?! - T.McD(Acting Sec).

01.01.2022 SAILING DAY REPORT, MON 9 MARCH 2020: Great day with Narooma High! Thanks heaps to Kylie from Narooma High who supplied these great shots. I had to put Lochie photobombing in first. We had very light winds in the morning, but it didnt dampen the enthusiasm of the 5 Narooma students - (Lochie, LB, Patrick, Tom and Sonny) - they all suited up and jumped into boats and got out there today. First out today (of course!) was Lochie who is always so keen. He jumped in Poppy with... Allan and they went out for a sail. Tony took LB out in Poppy and then Tom. Later on he took Edie out and she had a lovely time trailing her hand in the water, even though there wasnt a great deal of wind. Bob took Ben out in Finesse today, and they had a great sail. Meanwhile Allan took Peter Ward out for a sail. Everything is so much easier now we have our C-Crane working, and Life Without Barriers crew today helped out with a second sling. Because weve only had the C-Crane for a couple of weeks, were all still learning the tricks of operating it in our specific environment. Many thanks to the LWB carers who are old hands with this equipment and help us out immensely. We were really pleased to see Andy back today, after he had a bad run through the fires. He was very grateful to Martyn who has been helping him try to get his property sorted out after the devastation. Andy crewed our support boat Jay-Bee today with Peter Glen at the helm, and one of the Narooma students, Patrick, was very happy to go along for the ride and help out too. During lunch, Sonny amazed us with his bird calls (hes an expert). Some black cockatoos flew over and he imitated their call perfectly! After lunch and departure of our regular sailors, Tish took out Jay-Bee and Michael and Bob had a good solo sail, as the breeze had picked up a bit. A big tide made landing back at the pontoon a bit tricky, but we all managed, and packed up about 3 or so. Thanks to our wonderful carers from LWB, Gemma, Janine and Lucy, who brought Jodie, (The Escapade ferry toots its horn just for her) Ben, Peter Ward and Edie down, and Ray came down too today, but didnt want to sail as it was gym day. Huge thanks to all our volunteers today - Tish, Andy, Peter G, Tony, Michael L, Terry, Allan, Bob and Dana. See you all at our next sailing day: Monday 16th March! - TM(Sec).
