25.01.2022 It's never been more important to find your "Porpoise" in life. Hopefully after tomorrow's announcements, we can start "tacking to windward", and beat our way back on course. So here's a little reminder of the fun we can be getting back to soon....
20.01.2022 As lockdown restrictions begin to ease, our volunteers began the "sea trials" of the new Pelican Hoist. While we are still probably months away from restarting Sailing programs, a couple of volunteers have begun testing the flexibility of what we believe is the first ever use of a Pelican Hoist off a wooden jetty structure. (The hoists are usually used to assist people in and out of pools.) This has meant engineering modifications from both the manufacturer and the Yarra Ranges Shire engineering crew to put in place a dedicated base. Ron was the "test crash dummy" for the day, Keith the operator...
13.01.2022 Logistically, the restrictions on club sailing make it difficult for us to get back on the water using club boats, but there is nothing to stop members coming down to use their own boats. Lack of wind however..... that's an entirely different story!
11.01.2022 Only two months ago we were doing so well.... let's hope people do take this seriously and we get back to something more normal...as have the rest of Australian states.
08.01.2022 THINGS I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO DOING AGAIN! (It's another video today!)Taking our good friend, Patrick Boucher, from Yarra Ranges Life TV, for another sail on Lilydale lake. Hopefully he and his crew can join us next time at the After School Sailing Club.
07.01.2022 Say hello to new Commodore, Mick Taylor,( left), and Vice Commodore, Ron Roberts.
04.01.2022 Sailability and Covid 19. Here at Lilydale Community Sailing Club, we understand that our Sailability clients can be more vulnerable to infection due to some having compromised immune systems. We are currently commited to continue providing the Sailability program, but ask all our client groups to make their own judgement about attending.... If your group is not attending for what ever reason, please let our booking coordinator know, on 0456 033 949; preferably with as much time as possible. Please avoid crowding in the jetty rotunda by attending as close to your booking time as possible. If you are not sure of your clients actual booking time, check with your organisations team leader or your program coordinator. We are not included in a high or even low risk event category as of now, but things could change over the next week, for you or us; maybe rapidly. We ask that anyone with temperature, sore throat, shortness of breath, or flu like symptoms refrain from attending, regardless of the illness that may be the origin of the symptoms, as this is simply good health policy. It is the responsibility of your support staff to follow all appropriate infection control protocols, cough/sneeze management, hand washing/hygiene while in attendance. Official advice is to follow these simple steps to help slow the spread of the virus and to reduce the risk of infection: Wash your hands with soap and water before and after eating, and also after using the toilet Avoid physical contact with others when possible Cough into your elbow or into a clean tissue, then throw the tissue in the bin Seek medical attention if you're feeling sick. Be aware most people currently experiencing cold and flu symptoms won't have COVID-19 For more information and tips to help improve your safety and wellbeing, visit the Department of Health website. https://www.health.gov.au/ Just to repeat:- If your group is not attending for what ever reason, please let our booking coordinator know, on 0456 033 949; preferably with as much time as possible. Setting up the boats to sail requires our volunteers to attend 2 hours earlier than the program start time. It is not good for our volunteers morale or motivation, and therefore commitment to our program, to spend two hours setting up only to have no groups attend. Let's continue to get everyone out on the water in a fun and safe manner. Steve Beitzel: Commodore: Lilydale Community Sailing Club
04.01.2022 This about sums up the weekend getaway.... Lilydale Community Sailing Club winter odyssey....
04.01.2022 Some fruitful chats with one of the local Council Candidates, and what he could help with at council for our Sailability program. We do already get unbelievable support by Yarra Ranges Shire Council, and the elected members. Always glad to hear or connect with all candidates, I thank Chris for his initiative so far. https://www.facebook.com/christemplerformelbaward/
