21.01.2022 @emptyesky Hey Everyone, Elle here reporting from East Gippsland! Lakes Entrance has been in the news this week as having been the location of having a visit by a COVID positive person. However as yet there have been no positive results (fingers crossed there is none in the future!!) and this community, which suffered from last summer’s bushfires, needs your support. So while keeping an eye on health advice, please don’t cancel your holidays and come and support this area in... its recovery. It’s been so great seeing so many people around Gippsland with their Esky! I caught up with some local friends today at the @slipway_lakes_entrance for an ice cream and it was delicious. Lakes Entrance is still open and welcoming everyone, so if you’re looking for some great summer plans, come and visit! Just make sure you follow government regulations and if you’re feeling unwell please stay home and get tested. #lakesentrance #eastgippsland #gippsland See more

16.01.2022 A week ago we added the missing link on our journey to supply all of our meat from our farm, when we can’t we try source it from local & ethical farmers. Our friends @featherandboneprovidore have recently written a book on this topic and it is a must read if you care about your food and where it comes from! But back to the baby chicks! Chris’s ancestor came to Australia on the first fleet for stealing a chicken, I kid you not!... I blame his lineage for his inability to shake off his chicken loving addiction, he has also passed this on to our kids! But we’ve come to a chicken solution, broiler chicks! Not the most romantic name but it is a start! Hopefully our well connected mates @featherandboneprovidore can hook us up with some slower growing heritage breeds once we’ve gained some more pluck! Wish us luck See more

14.01.2022 DEEP DEEP IN THE WEEDS It is with a heavy heart that we have made to very hard decision that we will be postponing Deep Winter Festival until the 28th Aug. There have been many factors at play that we have had to consider and in the end it has come down to the health and well being of our very small team and with the extra COVID complexity in play we felt that we could not deliver the event that we had promised and had worked so hard to achieve.... If you have purchased a ticket you may retain your tickets if the new date still works for you, if not your purchase is fully refundable! We thank you for your understanding Our apologies to @east_gippsland_winter_festival which this was a part

08.01.2022 We’ve no idea what to do with a Drunken Sailor but we probably wouldn’t share this Coffee Breakfast Stout with him. It’s brewed with micro roasted beans by Genovese, vanilla beans, cinnamon and a little Karl whiskey barrel oak aging to boost the coffee notes. Bravo Sailors Grave Brewing

05.01.2022 Dark Emu ~ Dark lager our collaboration with Bruce Pascoe using the addition of roasted mamadyang ngalluk and burru ngalluk grass seed from the Far East harvested by Yuin people on the banks of the Wallagaraugh River. The beautiful art on the can depicts the giant creator emu, baiame, after it left earth and rose into the sky, becoming the huge dark space in the Milky Way. It was created by Yuin man Terry Hayes who also harvested the grain used in Dark Emu. We’re really prou...d to be sharing this beer with you today during NAIDOC 2020 Always Was, Always Will Be. recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. They built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. We truly are the lucky country to share this with our indigenous brothers and sisters. We thank Uncle Bruce Pascoe & family for entrusting us with this project and we pay our respects to ancestors and Elders past and present of the lands in which we dream, learn and live. We’re privileged to share and walk this special country together, the worlds oldest continuous culture and we’re committed to honouring this history and knowledge through our work at Sailors Grave. A percentage of the proceeds from the sales of Dark Emu will go to support the studies of local Aboriginal students at Orbost, Mallacoota and Eden.

05.01.2022 This is not just a local issue THIS is a GLOBAL ISSUE! @stopkalbar With the threat of a giant mineral sands open cut mine being planned just above the Lindenow valley in East Gippsland we want to bring attention to the very real threat to our areas food bowl and where we source a lot of our produce. The #Kalbar mine will be only 500 metres from the banks of the Mitchell river and will require 3 billion litres of water to operate per year. 13 sq Km of open cut mine which will... release radioactive toxic dust particles into the atmosphere, just upstream of a $155 million agricultural industry?! Mining and farming cannot co-exist like this! Please help save our local area, our waterways and our farm land by making a submission today you have until 5pm Thurs 29th Oct. https://engage.vic.gov.au/fingerboards-IAC and see www.stopkalbar.com or https://minefreeglenaladale.org for more details #stopkalbar #minefreeglenaladale Find out more @stopkalbar @caseymoore

05.01.2022 Friday night we took the gong for the @foodandfibre_gippsland award for excellence in collaborative partnerships COLLABORATION is something we’re pretty familiar with, we feel it’s a opportunity to share, learn and grow and it’s one of our favourite aspects of our business. ... One of our favourite collabs is Dark Emu ~ Dark Lager. This collaboration runs deep, the native grains harvested by Yuin people on the banks of the Wallagaraugh River, the beautiful art on the can depicts the giant creator emu, baiame, was created by Yuin man Terry Hayes who also harvested the grain used in Dark Emu. First Nations people have been making fermented beverages both here in Australia and across the world for thousands and thousands of years, we are just the conduit for this particular story in what is just a blip in time. We’re particularly proud that a percentage of the proceeds from the sales of Dark Emu will go to support the studies of local Aboriginal students at Orbost, Mallacoota and Eden. More than just beer

04.01.2022 Staring at the horizon is good for the soul @skingmanproductions

04.01.2022 Well cheers @merrickwatts! Friday knock off beer! Dark Emu- Dark Lager by @sailorsgravebrewing - there’s an amazing story behind this beer and the use of native ingredients and native wisdom to brew it. Look into it...whilst sampling one or two cans? Delicious brew! Cheers to you all! A special cheers to Bruce Pascoe for his amazing work on all his Dark Emu projects! #legend #darkemu

03.01.2022 When we first read Bruce Pascoe’s Dark Emu we suddenly felt that we were seeing the true Australian landscape first time. Over the last 200 years we have been cloaking the environment with layers in our own image, to make us feel safer and more comfortable in what can sometimes be an unfamiliar land. We have since been on a sometimes deeply personal journey ‘looking over our shoulder at the past’ and as Bruce says so eloquently you can’t eat our food until you can... swallow our history. Over the last 6 months we have been working with Uncle Bruce to bring Dark Emu ~ Dark Lager to life, Using the addition of roasted mamadyang ngalluk and burru ngalluk grass seed from the Far East harvested by Yuin people on the banks of the Wallagaraugh River. Dark Emu ~ Dark Lager will be brewed whenever enough grain can be gathered to make the beer, but the beer itself will be an evolving story reflecting the seasons and the the availability of the grain. In the future grain will potentially be sourced from other regions and communities, which is just the way we like it at Sailors Grave, we’re not making a commodity we’re telling a story about place, people and time.
