25.01.2022 Did you see the message from our College Captain, Archie Cornell, in last week's Viewpoint? Here's an excerpted version of his message for those who missed it: I hope you guys have enjoyed your online learning and its been a smooth, successful process. "The time ahead is not going to be easy, but we all have people to confide in at the College. Theres a pastoral care page on Canvas where the House Captains will post videos and you can get in touch with your Head of House ...if youre having trouble set up a Zoom meeting and do whatever you can to stay busy and stay on task. "We can get through this as a community if we all stick together, and before you know it, well be back at school enjoying the simple pleasures of life. "During the holiday, enjoy yourself and get out while you can, within the restrictions set. This time away to reflect can be pivotal in approaching next term. "For the Year 12s, its a big time in our school lives and its not ideal, but keep working hard, put your all into it. Well come out of this better for it and stronger as a community. "Parents, please make sure youre keeping an eye on your sons its not an easy time to be away from school; make sure youre there for him. "Stay safe, stay healthy." 25.01.2022 Last week, we welcomed our students back on campus for Term 3. The Year 12 boys have been proudly wearing their graduation jumpers and keeping warm in the cooler weather. 25.01.2022 It's been a big week at Riverview Farm with the birth of some spring lambs and new yards set up for the 20/21 Cattle Program. For our young men who come from the land, the Farm is a little agricultural haven in the city...

25.01.2022 Say hello to Anya, one of our therapy dogs. Anya plays an important role providing emotional support for our students and is a valuable member of the Health Centre. She also happens to look extremely spiffy in the blue and white!

24.01.2022 By necessity, the Easter Liturgy cannot be held on campus this year, but in the words of the Angel Gabriel, "Fear not!" When you can't go to the Easter Liturgy, let the Easter Liturgy come to you... All students are requested to watch this during Period 2, as they would have at school. Other members of our community are invited to join in and watch anytime: https://vimeo.com/402113551... It is important as a community for us to still come together, even in the virtual space, to pray this Easter. Easter is a time of new hope, so let us remember that anything is possible with Christ!

24.01.2022 While our Riverview staff will be "walking to Timor-Leste" in solidarity with our brothers and sisters there who need assistance, our students have been walking even further - all way to Cambodia! "On Saturday my friends and I embarked on a 20km walk for the Walk in Solidarity fundraiser. It was a great way to fundraise for the people of Cambodia who were massively affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. - Darcy, one among many students who have been making a difference... It's not too late to support our efforts - please consider donating here: https://riverviewstaffwalkinsolidarity.gofundraise.com.au/ Read more in today's Viewpoint: https://viewpoint.riverview.nsw.edu.au/ (login required)

24.01.2022 A recent student survey reveals that the vast majority of students are feeling positive about the transition to online learning. Well done to our students for adapting so quickly to this new learning mode - you do the College proud. Remember that your teachers, mentors and mates are here to help. If you're struggling or finding it hard to keep up, reach out and talk to your teacher, Head of House, mentor or a staff member you trust, and we will do whatever we can to assist. Your wellbeing is our top priority. Stay healthy, safe and connected!

23.01.2022 The Valete celebrations today gave honour to a phenomenally resilient group of young men who not only made it through their final year of secondary schooling, but showed incredible strength in leading the College through one of the toughest years around. The entire College gathered for the Guard of Honour procession across the campus (led by an impressive drumline), and the day was capped off with the Valete Awards Ceremony on the steps of the Arrupe. Inspiring guest speaker ...and Old Boy, Dr Greg OMahoney, encouraged our students to remember these years with gratitude and to move forward into their best years ahead, prepared to put their talents to use for the community. In a truly moving and memorable moment, Alex Noble was awarded the Insignis Medal the highest honour awarded at the College. With One Foot Raised, our Year 12 cohort now prepare to move into their future and join the ranks of our Old Ignatians. Well done gents, youve done us all proud.

23.01.2022 Thank you for joining us for our annual ANZAC tribute. Staff and students will be watching this presentation at 9.30am (Period 2), which would have been the time of our annual ANZAC Assembly. We invite you to join with our community at this time as we remember and reflect together. https://vimeo.com/411199757

22.01.2022 Shout out to our Year 12 students, who are not only gearing up for the start of the HSC, but a number have already been accepted for early entry to universities in Australia (with others favourably positioned for entry into universities overseas). Special congratulations are extended to Noah Allan, who was recently awarded the prestigious Kambri Indigenous Scholarship at The Australian National University after already having received the B&V Toomey Prize for Aboriginal Studies at the Valete Ceremony (pictured)

21.01.2022 Thank you to our amazing Riverview community for your patience, support and encouragement through all the ups and downs of term 3. Our students, families and staff have shown incredible resilience through difficult circumstances, and we are grateful to each and every one. Thank you for a wonderful term and enjoy your break!

20.01.2022 The Riverview Bursary Program supports students and families from all backgrounds and circumstances to access a Jesuit education. We, in turn, are enriched as a community by their presence. Watch the stories of Jack, Jacob and Andy to see how the Program can change a life. With just seven days left to go until the end of financial year, you can help contribute to the mission of the Bursary Program and support many families who require assistance. If you are able, please consi...der making a tax deductible donation at https://bursary.riverview.nsw.edu.au/donation/. Thank you for your generosity! https://vimeo.com/425371885/3f012d1f13

20.01.2022 Its been an exciting week around campus, with the return of two more grades on Monday, followed by a COVID-related evacuation of the College on Wednesday but the good news is that it didnt affect the Friends Listen Assembly, where we were inspired by the exceptional courage and determination of Alex Noble in his interview with College Captain, Archie Cornell. Watch it in todays Viewpoint and get all the news from across the week: https://viewpoint.riverview.nsw.edu.au (lo...gin required) A special thanks to our community from Dr Hine: "As we all know there was turbulence as the news arrived that a boy on the Senior Campus had tested positive for COVID-19. My only comment is one of unqualified gratitude to the school community: to the teachers who facilitated such a coordinated school response, to the boys who were so measured, purposeful and respectful through the movement requirements, and to the parents who, while anxious, were patient and supportive of the measures that needed to be observed. Despite the turbulence of the day, we can look back with much pride as a school community about managing a situation that we have all been very apprehensive about but prepared for: one which saw all stand tall. My sincere and deepest thanks to all.

20.01.2022 CANTEEN GOOD NEWS STORY Whilst we have managed to clean out the canteen, Father Mac and Regis canteen, we were trying to relocate some food items to worthy causes. Unfortunately, one of the effects of this insidious virus is that many charities were unable to accept our donation of fresh flavoured milks and bread. A local lady, Michelle B., who collects weekly for the NICU parent room at RNSH, collected these to share at Ryde, Macquarie and RNS hospitals for staff working on... the frontline. Yesterday we filled her car with food that our boys would have quickly demolished in a day, for distribution to the staff of RNSH ED, paramedics coming to the hospital and admin staff on the desk of the ED. They were overwhelmed to be thought of by us, as they struggle with a huge demand for services and very long hours of work. A small way to be "men and women for others" and we're proud to be Riverview staff member who can help. Michelle's message: "I wish you had been there this afternoon when I delivered to RNSH ED. They were blown away. I gave staff at the front desk one, then the paramedics, doctors, nurses and then stocked the entire staff tearoom fridge with your fabulous products. Thank you just doesn't seem enough".

19.01.2022 Good luck to all our Year 12s whose HSC examinations began today. We're praying for you and cheering you on! Here's a prayer that may help before your exams: Lord, as I prepare for this examination,... let your strength and your wisdom be present to me. May I revise my work thoroughly. May I understand what it is I have to know. May my memory be reliable and orderly. May I be calm and focused on the task ahead. May I know and feel the love and support of my family and friends. And may you, the author and creator of all things, enlighten me. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. (Adrian Porter SJ) See more

18.01.2022 We extend our warmest congratulations to Leanne Neal, Riverview's own Health Centre Co-ordinator, on being awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for her outstanding services to youth and nursing in the 2020 Queens Birthday Honours Leanne also holds the Distinguished Nursing Service award bestowed by the NSW Institute of Nursing Unit Managers and has received the highest honour Saint Ignatius' College Riverview can confer on a member of the Riverview community, the In...signis Award. She has played a significant role in establishing the first Ignatian Childrens Holiday Camp and has supported and advised the Sony Foundation on the expansion of the Childrens Holiday Camp program across all states and territories in Australia over the past 20 years. Leanne has been an outstanding servant of the College leading the Health Care Centre for over 20 years.

18.01.2022 On 2nd October, Darcy Henry, a beloved member of Campion House and Year 8 student, tragically passed away from a very rare and unexpected cardiac condition. This morning, the Riverview community joined together with Darcy’s family and peers to console each other, pray for the Henry family, and to reflect on his memory. Darcy’s friends shared moving memories of him as a young man who thought about others first and was a friend to everybody he was funny, kind, brilliant and j...oyful. A coral bark maple tree was planted in his memory in the Rose Garden near the Woods Music Centre, a place of special meaning for music-loving Darcy. Darcy’s parents, Karen and Michael, shared: On behalf of our family to the boys and the staff of the College, thank you so much for making Riverview a place that Darcy loved to come, and thank you for the important part that you played in Darcy becoming the beautiful young man that he was. Dr Paul Hine said, We confront times of enormous emotional difficulty, and as we do so, we draw on our Catholic faith in the knowledge that Darcy is in the arms of his loving God.

17.01.2022 Tomorrow will see the dawn of a new online era of learning at Riverview. Whether it lasts for a few weeks or a few months, we want all our students to succeed, so here are a few tips to make the transition smoother. More information has been posted onto InsideView at https://insideview.riverview.nsw.edu.au/covid-19-information, and guidelines surrounding the Virtual Timetable can be found at https://insideview.riverview.nsw.edu.au//virtual-timetable, including school procedures and FAQs.

17.01.2022 Today, on what would have been his 15th birthday, we celebrated George Dummers life and memory among his friends and family. His Year 9 peers gathered in the Rose Garden with his parents, Jane and Murray, siblings, Charlie and Sophia, and his grandparents. Georges friends shared memories of his contagious laugh, his fearless mountain biking skills, and his sense of fun. While George was tragically taken from us just 2.5 weeks ago, his memory will live on in the memorial rock set up by his friends, and the crabapple tree planted in his memory to flower around this time every year. His mum Jane said, He was a View boy through and through thank you for sharing and demonstrating your love for him. May he rest in eternal peace with our Father in heaven.

16.01.2022 Saint Ignatius' College Riverview is excited to welcome Fr Tom Renshaw SJ (OR1990) as our new Rector from 2021. Fr Renshaw is not only himself an old boy, but he also comes from a line of Riverview men stretching back to 1930. While this is an exciting step for us, we also wish to acknowledge our sad loss of Fr Gerry at the end of this year. In the words of Dr Hine in today's Viewpoint, Fr Gerry's "gentle and generous presence, wisdom and care around the College has been a wonderful asset during [this] challenging year."

15.01.2022 A huge THANK YOU to our amazing Riverview community for coming together to help re-stock the Ignite store in Mt Druitt after our call out two weeks ago. Jesuit Social Services wishes to thank everyone who contributed, particularly considering the restrictions and uncertainty of our times. These goods are now being distributed to those most in need in Western Sydney.

15.01.2022 Today, class 6.3 hosted Regis' inaugural Survivor Warrior Challenge, consisting of seven different challenges including feats of strength and intelligence. Class Captains, Tom and Patrick, (pictured standing in the back), said, "We were inspired by two TV shows Survivor and Australian Ninja Warrior. Our aim was to keep everyone fit, healthy and happy while having fun. They succeeded on all fronts, with class 5.4 taking out the coveted trophy! 5.4 Captains Henry and Jude can be seen holding it up, thrilled to receive it on behalf of their class. Well done to all our Regis boys!

14.01.2022 We were thrilled to welcome over 200 families to our virtual open day today - some came from around the corner in Lane Cove, while others joined us from regional NSW, interstate and overseas. The day was hosted by our Principal Dr Paul Hine, who was joined by Acting Rector, Fr Gerry Healy SJ, and College Captain, William Martyr. With prayer, a presentation and live FAQs, it was a brisk and informative hour. We invite you to watch (or re-watch) the segments at https://www.riverview.nsw.edu.au/open-day/.

14.01.2022 Hey Riverview, it's time to mask up! Remember that from tomorrow, students are asked to wear face masks when using public transport (day students) and when in the shops in Lane Cove (boarders). Masks will now be available from Licona, and be sure to check InsideView for our Safe Schooling Guidelines: https://insideview.riverview.nsw.edu.au//covid-19-safe-sch

13.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 9 Magis students Harry, Joseph, Thomas, Thomas and Owen (pictured with JRS Officer Anne Nesbitt and Ms Amy Lester), who competed for the JRS Youth Award last week. Students were asked to curate museum displays to represent the challenges faced by refugees and people seeking asylum, and all five of their displays were visually engaging and highly informative. A special mention goes to the winning display by Owen and runner-up Joseph for their particularly outstanding work.

12.01.2022 The return of the khaki uniform means summer's in the air! It's good to have our students back on campus for what we hope will be a wonderful Term 4.

11.01.2022 The campus was abuzz as our young men from Years 5, 12 and the Integration Program returned on campus for face to face learning. As Xavier House Captain Fergus Collins put it in today's Viewpoint: "The posters around the school are a timely reminder that, while life seems to be returning to the habits of old, there is still a need to continue doing our part for the community at large. It is also a necessary time for gratitude to those in positions of authority, both at the school and the community at large, for their diligence and quick action that has allowed such a swift return to school." As more students return next week, we remind everyone to use new no-touch greetings - read all about it in today's Viewpoint https://viewpoint.riverview.nsw.edu.au/ (login required)

10.01.2022 Congratulations James Tracey (OR2013), this year’s recipient of the Patrick Rodgers’ Memorial Award, which is presented to an Old Boy who has continued their service in a faithful and committed manner since graduation. James has an extensive record of giving himself in Ignatian Service, both overseas and in Australia. He spent 16 months working as a teacher and carer with impoverished communities in Thailand, Central Vietnam, and Nepal, working with the poorest of the poor, ...supporting ministries that only operate out of the generosity of people like James. Each of these occasions has seen James spend between four and eight months in a community, establishing long-term relationships. The strength of these relationships led him to return to reconnect with members of the communities on a number of occasions. James has the profound belief that education is key for those who find themselves stuck in a continual cycle of poverty. As the recipient of a very privileged education, James’ Ignatian Service work post-school has seen him continue to pass on his knowledge for the empowerment of the lives of others. 09.01.2022 NOTICE FOR OUR COMMUNITY: We have been informed by NSW Health that a student has tested positive for COVID-19. The safety and wellbeing of staff and students is our key priority at all times; as such we will continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure that all necessary health advice is adhered to. The virtual timetable will commence from tomorrow as the campus is cleaned, and closure is not anticipated to last more than 48 hours.... This will not affect Regis campus, and the Boarding Houses will remain open. Parents with any concerns are welcome to contact the College for more information.

09.01.2022 The much anticipated Inclusion Program Christmas Cards are on their way, and our students have drawn some of the best we have seen! Packs of 10 assorted cards with envelopes are just $10 a pack, and 100% of the proceeds will be sent to Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre to fund a Brickfield school in India. Get in early with your order by contacting Kim Prodinger on [email protected].

09.01.2022 Both on- and off-campus, the Riverview community is gearing up for the week ahead... Term 2 is going to be a good one! And despite the many changes we've undergone as a community in recent times, some things will always remain the same, including our annual ANZAC tribute. We invite you to join us at 9.30am on Wednesday 29 April for an online presentation to replace our usual ANZAC Assembly. See you then!

09.01.2022 Today's lunch was a special one for the students in our Inclusion Program, as they devoured burgers they'd cooked themselves, using fresh vegetables they'd grown themselves, on the picnic benches that their Year 11 students made themselves! Program Coordinator Mr Toby Martin said, "The Inclusion Program at Riverview offers students with significant learning challenges the opportunity to immerse themselves in mainstream education and College life. The program is one of the ma...ny educational approaches throughout the College but plays an integral role in fostering growth and inclusivity among the entire school community. "One of the things the students are being taught this term is to have a greater appreciation of where their food comes from and a greater understanding of healthy food choices. This year we've encouraged the adoption of a more sustainable approach in cultivating their vegie patch, which is then incorporated into the students' cooking lessons." Well done boys!

08.01.2022 Each week in Viewpoint, we've been sharing a Performance of the Week by our incredibly talented Music students. Here's a little mellow music for your Monday, courtesy of Year 11 student, Carlos G. https://vimeo.com/443264494

08.01.2022 On Friday 26 June, Riverview staff are collectively walking the distance to Timor-Leste to support those affected by the pandemic. Please support our efforts and assist our Timorese brothers and sisters by donating at https://riverviewstaffwalkinsolidarity.gofundraise.com.au/ Thank you!

06.01.2022 We're excited to announce that this year, we're moving our Information Morning to an online Virtual Open Day. 05.01.2022 Reconciliation has been at the top of our minds this week, as our First Nations students led us in a moving Reconciliation Ceremony on Wednesday. With courage and pride, they shared their stories, enriching our community and continually bridging the gaps of our knowledge and empathy. "One of the many distinguishing features of this College is our commitment to First Nations education... the real impulse is that education represents the fulcrum of change. The educational prog...ram has a vision of developing a generation of First Nations boys who are informed, passionate and committed citizens; to equip them with the knowledge and skills to become leaders... And those in the institution of education realise that it is a reciprocal process, for as our boys are being formed, so too are our First Nations boys educating us. We have the benefit of growing in understanding and appreciation of Indigenous history and culture, as we walk this road together." - Dr Hine, Principal (in today's Viewpoint) #InThisTogether2020 #reconciliation #indigenouseducation

04.01.2022 Brrrr... it's getting cold out there! Let's provide some warmth for those living on the streets or in temporary accommodation with a WINTER WARMER KIT. We're collecting (new) items including beanies, scarves, gloves and warm adult socks, to be distributed through the Exodus Foundation. Check today's Viewpoint for details and donate through the Ignatian Centre. https://viewpoint.riverview.nsw.edu.au (login required)... The Rev Bill Crews Foundation

04.01.2022 This photo of two Riverview athletes at a GPS Athletics Carnival was taken many years ago, yet it resonates still today. Riverview is proud to stand with those on the margins, and give voice to those who have remained unheard for too long. "While the overt violence against Afro-Americans that has shaken the US is confronting, it is deeply disturbing that so many Indigenous Australians are casualties in our own context. That tens of thousands of Australians, Indigenous and non...-Indigenous, gathered across the states and territories of the nation in defiance of government decree is indicative of the concern that is widely shared... A time for an intense national debate to be entered into is upon us, and as a Jesuit community that embraces social justice, this matter represents a moral imperative." - Principal Dr Paul Hine (from today's Viewpoint) #BlackLivesMatter #AboriginalLivesMatter #InThisTogether

03.01.2022 This week, Year 9 students took to Gorman Field to raise awareness for the 16,000 refugee children in Australia who are missing out on vital financial support and resources during the COVID-19 pandemic. During their Magis Integrated Learning lessons, students stood in a Solidarity Circle as part of the Jesuit Refugee Service 'JRS' Australia #NoChildLeftBehind campaign for the National Week of Solidarity (6th-12th September 2020). Prior to observing ten minutes silence in the... Solidarity Circe, the students stated: "As Ignatian men, we are committed to standing in solidarity with the marginalised. Even beyond our Ignatian community, Australia is a society that cares about the health and well-being of our children, and these children's needs cannot be met if their families do not have access to essential services and support. We need to make sure that all children in Australia are safe and supported as if they were our own. "...The Solidarity Circle is a symbol of our commitment to walking with the marginalised and shows our support for children our own age who cannot access the resources we are fortunate to have here at Riverview. While we stand in silence today, we will not remain silent while injustice prevails." To see how you can help, please go to https://jrs.org.au/

03.01.2022 The GPS Swimming season has concluded with some outstanding results for the swim team. For season highlights, check out tomorrow's Viewpoint!

02.01.2022 It was a day full of celebrations for our Year 12s, from their group photo in the morning through to the Memoriale Awards and Year 12 Co-curriculum Awards Ceremonies both of which were livestreamed to allow families to join from any location to help celebrate the successes of a remarkable cohort. Over lunch, their energies were replenished as they were served by the Executive in a gesture of service and appreciation. Thank you to Mr Michael Phillip for his inspiring speech ...today, encouraging our young men to discover their true value, and to Mr Brent Cubis, who encouraged our cohort to continue their strong connections as Old Ignatians. Both men once sat where our students are today, unaware that down the track, they would return to the College as parents and speakers. Similarly, whilst our Year 12s may not know where life will lead them after this year, we are hopeful that the path will one day lead back to Riverview as an Old Boy, a coach, a dad, or even as a guest speaker for a new generation. 02.01.2022 MEDIA STATEMENT A 12-month-old black steer that recently arrived at Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview, as part of the College’s Agricultural program, broke through one of the stock-proof fences late last night. The steer is currently missing and was last sighted in the Lane Cove area. We have alerted the appropriate authorities and are working to locate the steer for a safe return back to the farm. The College has concerns regarding the welfare and safety of the animal as wel...l as concerns for any potential injury that may be caused to any member of the local community which may be incurred due to the steer roaming in a highly urbanised area. The College welcomes support from the local community in providing any information regarding the animal’s location so that we may safely collect and return him to the Riverview Farm. In the event that any member of the public sights the steer or has any information that could assist in his return, please contact the College reception on 9882 8222 or 0403 123 503.

02.01.2022 The long-awaited Year 9 Challenge has finally begun! After many doubts that we would be able to run the 2020 Challenge due to COVID-19, we are very excited to deliver an engaging program that aims to develop students’ resilience, independence, team work and initiative over 2.5 weeks. The program has been modified to ensure our community's wellbeing, with the option for a Virtual Learning Mode of the Year 9 Challenge available to those boys unable to attend in person. Thanks t...o Digital/Domestic King Day, we can confirm that the boys know how to clean a toilet, iron their own shirts, sew on a button and change a tyre. Hopefully this will save families some time (and nagging)! The boys also completed a Digital Citizenship Course and engaged in a pastoral talk on safety online. Read more about the Challenge in tomorrow's Viewpoint! (Mrs Vanessa Peterson) See more

02.01.2022 This week saw the introduction of masks on public transport and in local shops thank you to all our students who have taken this message to heart and are working together to keep our community safe. We also welcomed our Regis students to the senior campus this week while the Year 12s relocated to Regis for their exam period. Dr Hine says in this weeks Viewpoint column: It was with a mixture of apprehension and excitement that the Regis boys marched across the Senior Campu...s to take up residence in the Arrupe Building on Tuesday, bringing with them computers, books and bags as they relocated to provide Year 12 with an examination centre during the Trial HSC Examinations. What a gesture of support and generosity from the boys and their teachers, as they gave over their space to ensure the integrity of these assessments men for and with others!!
