22.01.2022 An important message for Year 12 Parents/Guardians No doubt you are excited about your son/daughter graduating this week and the celebrations that are coming up and we would like to take this opportunity to ensure you are aware of some very important information. The recent announcement to ease restrictions as of today enables us to move the Final Chapel ceremony to the GFA, which is a better venue for this ceremony and allows us to continue traditions established in previous... years. It is imperative that you use the respective TryBooking link to register for each of the ceremonies see below for the links and the maximum number of guests. These links will close as of 10am TODAY. Please do not purchase more than the number of tickets allocated for each ceremony and please be advised we are unable to allow any additional people into either of the ceremonies on the day. Graduation - https://www.trybooking.com/BMDUE - maximum number of guests is two (so two tickets have been allocated per student not including the student) Final Chapel - https://www.trybooking.com/BMDUR - maximum number of guests is four (so four tickets have been allocated per student not including the student) A reminder that the Graduation is being held on Thursday 19 November. It will commence at 5pm with canapes in the College Quadrangle, followed by the formal proceedings in the GFA, which will commence at 6pm. Final Chapel is being held on Friday 20 November and is now located in the GFA. This ceremony will commence at 9.30am and doors will be open from approximately 8.45am. Parents will be able to view the Tunnel at the conclusion of the Final Chapel ceremony, which is an important tradition at Saint Stephen’s College. We thank you for your patience and understanding in terms of the organisation around these events and the impact of COVID-19 restrictions. We are really looking forward to these ceremonies, which mark a special time in your son/daughter’s life, and we hope you are too.

22.01.2022 A reminder that our Father's Day stall will be held tomorrow and Thursday. It will be set up inside the College grounds, outside the uniform bookshop. Due to COVID regulations we ask parents to encourage their children to attend the stall themselves. Gift cards and bags from $1, gifts from $2 - $10.

21.01.2022 The Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (MIEE) program runs across 83 countries bringing together educators who are passionate about engaging and empowering students through the successful integration of digital technology. A self-nomination process, educators are selected for the exceptional teaching and learning programs they deliver. As one of five teachers from the College that will join the class of 2020 2021, Ms Jacinda Kontolen, Junior and Senior College teacher, shares what it means to her. I am very excited to have been selected as a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (MIEE) for 2020/21. I am looking forward to being an active contributor to the global community by collaborating and empowering other educators through professional development of best practice. Let the innovation education revolution begin!

20.01.2022 On Friday 11 September, we celebrated Scrub Up September by wearing free dress and giving a gold coin donation to support kids in hospital. Many of our EarlyAct members from 5L, as well as Year 5 teacher Mrs Lisa Littman, were instrumental in organising this event. 5B watched a clip of twin boys, Louis and Theo who have spent most of their first year in hospital after being diagnosed with a condition where one day, they will need a kidney transplant. The class then discussed... just how lucky and healthy they all are and spent the next lesson writing 'Get Well Soon' cards to our fellow friends in hospital. Mrs Jane Howe, Director of Community Relations, will be delivering the cards to the sick children of Gold Coast University Hospital. The cards were just beautiful and we loved the heart felt messages that the students wrote. Thank you to everyone who supported this day, we raised a total of $913.55 which will help the Foundation in its endeavour to fund vital medical equipment, world-class research and interactive play and sensory areas in the hospitals.

19.01.2022 A message from Father Andrew At the recent Family Chapel Service, I mentioned our efforts with supporting the Tsion Mariam School in Ethiopia. It is no exaggeration to state that if not for the efforts of Saint Stephens College, the Tsion Mariam School would have closed years ago. Through the generous donations of our College community, we have kept the school going and supported hundreds of orphans in getting an education that they would have otherwise been denied. To ever...yone who has supported this cause over the past 18 years thank you. In collaboration with the Townsville Grammar Junior School, we are working towards providing Tsion Mariam with some new classrooms. The government has told them that their current buildings are inadequate, so without the new rooms, the school cannot continue. To date, we have raised around $32,000 towards the cost of the building, but we are slightly short of the goal, which is $40,000. I am hoping that you will be able to help us to make up the shortfall. If you are able to personally donate towards this project, you can either make a payment at the Accounts Department, or visit the online fundraising page at: https://tsionmariam-gdg-j539nb.raisely.com/. Because of our working through the Global Development Group in Australia, you are able to claim any donations on your Tax Return. Hopefully, we will receive some progress photographs so that you will be able to see the project as it comes to fruition. Tsion Mariam is currently negotiating with a contractor to begin the work immediately, so it is in faith that we are starting the project, even though we do not quite have all of the funds available to complete it. With thanks and blessings, Fr Andrew

I feel honoured to be recognised as a part of the Microsoft Innovative Expert Educator (MIEE) initiative for ...2020/2021. This will be my fifth year as an MIEE, with such a diverse global group, I look forward to learning and sharing best practice of teaching and learning with the global education community. 15.01.2022 With four teachers on the The Educators annual Hot List which recognises and celebrates professionals who represent the cutting edge of educational excellence in Australia, today we share with you, Mrs Kerrie Soars, Junior College STEAM coordinator/Year 2 teacher. Mrs Soars has been recognised for her high calibre of work and dedication in leading Saint Stephens College in its efforts to integrate STEAM-based units across the Junior College. The focus on STEAM being explici...tly taught in the Junior College was her brainchild. The initiative involved reviewing the current programs in Mathematics, Science, Technology, and Art; and designing and adopting a STEAM curriculum for Prep to Year 6, through a design thinking approach. She also supported the upskilling of staff, so they can use new skills to enhance their teaching, not only STEAM tasks but all classroom teaching. Overall, Mrs Soars influence in this area has led to high levels of student engagement; and empowered teachers to deliver high levels of critical and creative thinking skills within the students. Congratulations Mrs Soars! See more

Well done everyone and special congratulations to Haley House who won both Aggregate and Spirit Trophies.

12.01.2022 Not even a world pandemic could stop the biggest and most important day on the College annual calendar - Saint Stephens Day the celebration of our foundations. Even though audience numbers were tapered to fit with COVID safe plans, the excitement and enthusiasm among the students who attended was far from dampened. We celebrate Saint Stephens Day each year on the last day of Term Three traditionally a day of emotion, colour and reflection on who we are and includes the Sedés Honoris ceremony, Dash for Wings, Tug of War and Battle of the Bands.

11.01.2022 For those within our community that have been affiliated with the College for a long time, we are sure you are aware that the 2005 Time Capsule, that is buried near the uniform shop, is due to be opened on Saint Stephen's Day this year. Unfortunately due to COVID regulations this is no longer an option. However, we are happy to announce that we will open it next year when we celebrate our 25 year anniversary. We would also like to remind you that this Saint Stephen's Day ...is an in-house day of celebration and parents, guardians, families and Old Scholars will not be able to attend. Access to the College campus will be limited on this day with the Western Gate closed at 8.35am and then re-opened at 2.30pm. Should you require entry to the College campus during these hours, please call 5573 8600.

08.01.2022 As a College we celebrate the five Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts (MIEEs) that will join the class of 2020 - 2021, celebrating the great work we are doing in the use of technology and innovative practice that is at the heart of Saint Stephens College. As one of the five teachers from the College, Mr Mitchell Mills, Senior College teacher, shares what it means to him. "Due to the ever changing nature of the teaching profession, particularly this year with the transiti...on to a period of online learning, it was essential that I leveraged various technology platforms to keep my students engaged from home. To do this, I spent countless hours researching education platforms, as well as reaching out to colleagues on both a national and international scale to get an insight into ways they were incorporating technology in their practice. It is so rewarding to be recognised by such a large corporation, that is Microsoft, at an international level for the work many educators have done in ensuring their students are engaged in meaningful learning experiences. I look forward to connecting with other inspiring educators across the globe, gaining access to curriculum and online professional development, and continuing my journey as a lifelong learner. The MIEE program runs across 83 countries bringing together educators who are passionate about engaging and empowering students through the successful integration of digital technology. 03.01.2022 Head of Science, Mr Iain Taylor is a trailblazer when it comes to promoting the spirit of scientific inquiry, championing innovative learning, and promoting science in action, so it is no surprise that he is one of the four teachers named in The Educators annual Hot List which recognises and celebrates professionals who represent the cutting edge of educational excellence in Australia. Mr Taylor leverages the Colleges Learning Management System to deliver online blended-lea...rning opportunities for students and constantly works with the eLearning Department to fine-tune the Science LMS courses. He also ensures that teachers cater for individual student needs, with the use of such tools as 3D TV and VR headsets to spark imagination and wonder. Problem solving, testing and experimenting within real-world contexts are foundation stones laid by Mr Taylor in the Science faculty. Mr Taylor has been pivotal in promoting the development of hands-on and engaging STEAM-based activities across the College, including the Science Show and STEAM work for team projects. In 2019 he led a group of our Senior students to China, to take part in the first worldwide pilot of the Chinese person to person Youth STEM exchange, which saw the group visiting nine schools in four districts of China and delivering the Saint Stephens College Science show and two additional workshops to over 2,500 students. Well done Iain!

02.01.2022 Year 10 demonstrated their innovative and exciting team projects at their market stalls last week. Team projects in 2020 included innovations such as a balloon and research instrument that will be launched to the edge of space; eco road fill for pot holes; mental health campaign shirts that embed technology and an innovative drama room design ready for its proposal stage. These examples give a small snapshot. The College's sense of community was certainly present as students... from across the school came to visit the displays. Well done Year 10!

Ms Reynolds initiated a multidisciplinary approach to teaching which focuses on pracademia, and engages extensively with the broader community, in order to provide the students with the opportunity to make connections now and in their futures. As a pracademic, she encourages students to be innovators through critical thinking, creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and teamwork personal and social skills with a balance of ICT skills, through a discovery process. Collaborative projects include Future Millionaires Challenge, Money Money Money, and Dont Get Started Get Ready intrapreneurship programs that connect to students to local businesses. Now in its 11th year, Ms Reynolds implemented the Wearable Art and Design Show, with this year done a little differently. The STEAM initiative, blends up to seven subjects into one final project. Congratulations Ms Reynolds for being recognised on this prestigious list.

01.01.2022 Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Prep to Year 3 Athletics Carnival last Friday. Well done to Bell House who won the trophy!

01.01.2022 Year 5/6 STEAM-W students were busy again this term. Students designed their own systems for classifying and displaying collections of rocks and shells and designed solutions to solve problems around the campus including keeping water bottles cool, transporting heavy bags up stairs and disinfecting the surfaces of school desks. Six groups entered their projects in the Gold Coast Science Competition hosted by Griffith University. Good luck!
