21.01.2022 Hello Saint Mary’s Players Family and Friends. As most of you will be aware with the recent Govt announcements on the Covid-19 situation contact sport restrictions will be lifted. However at this point of time the Committee today have been informed by AFL Goulburn Murray that there was a 6 2 vote not to play a 2020 SDJFNL season. The 2020 season will be cancelled due to Covid19 concerns.... As a Committee we would like to thank everyone for their patience and support during this time and we look forward to everyone returning to the St Marys Football Club in 2021.

17.01.2022 Sunday 27th June - Round 10 St Mary’s V’s Euroa U11’s -written by coach Gen Gordon ... Sunday's match against Euroa proved that our youngest Saints can push the best of the competition. Euroa went into the game undefeated and are proving to be the team to beat in season 2021. The Saints outscored their opponents in the first and last quarters of the match but were unable to hang on for a win, going down by a single goal. The shooting positions rotated throughout the match with Maddison, Sienna, Alishika, Issy and Ava making the most of their goaling opportunities. St Mary's worked hard defensively but often undid their great work with inaccurate passing. Evident is the progress and improvement made by our team and I am extremely proud of each and every player. Matilda Barry was a nuisance for the opposition taking intercept after intercept and deflecting the ball time and again. Alishika Kris was courageous, playing out the match on Sunday only to discover on Monday she has a buckle break in her arm. A very brave effort Alishika. The team attended a Vixens Training day on Tuesday and are looking forward to practising the skills they were taught out on court. U13’s -written by coach Sarah D’Orria Clash of the top 2 undefeated teams and it was a tough and physical game from the get-go. It caught Saints off guard and whilst we picked up many turnovers we threw into hands a lot and made several errors under pressure. At one point we were down by 11 goals, but these amazing little players did not stop trying and were able to bring it back to being just 5 goals down at 3/4 time. We ended up going down by 3, but Leanne and I were very proud of their resilience and determination to close the gap in the score. If we can tidy up a few things in the attacking end and work on our defensive pressure (hands over ball) we are hopeful to get over Euroa next time. Awards went to Marley who consistently bring her everything to the game and is developing into a great little defender. Grace was given the Aramintas award for her efforts in the goal ring and also in WD where she really made a difference in the mid court. Sophie also picked up an award for coming on in the second half and getting plenty of hands to ball. And her 3 feet and reach over the goalers was very effective. It was hard to only have 3 awards. Have to also mention Ella’s amazing game in GD, Gabby had a rippa game again in C/WA, Liv’s efforts (second and third attempts) under pressure from a fairly physical GD did not go unnoticed and Chloe also brought the ball cleanly down the court and fed the goalers well. Brielle ran the centre well and is another player who puts in 100% at training and on the day. Georgia snapped up several loose balls and passed reliably out of the backline. And Poppy goaled very well under pressure. Enjoy the school holidays everyone - stay fit and practice your goals!

15.01.2022 2020 Season was not the year we all hoped, we all need to continue to stay safe and follow the rules. We will make 2021 bigger and better for all. Hang in there, remember to keep active, talk to friends and family over the phone and remember that you are not alone. I will post some inspirational messages played to the Under 14’s & Under 16’s prior to their Grand Finals this time last year, they remind us all to stay strong and never.. never give up.
14.01.2022 Round 9 - St Mary’s V’s Seymour U11’s Netball Written by coach Gen Gordon ... Seymour U11 hit the court ready to play and from the very first whistle St Mary's had a game on their hands. The saints girls were lacking their usual level of intensity and found it challenging to find space due to the pressure applied by their opponents. The award winners this week were Ava Gordon and Matilda Barry. Playing various positions, Ava continually lead well to be an option for her teammates. Matilda took some important intercepts during the game that stopped Seymour's attacking efforts. The team will learn from this game, they will train hard this week and return to the court keen to make a mends against Euroa. U13’s Netball Written by coach Sarah D’Orria Suns out guns out () - literally! Yes our 13s were guns today with a great win (49-5) over Lions! Grace and Poppy shot an amazing 19 goals to 1 in the first quarter and we witnessed some impressive passages of play from one end of the court to the other. Between Ella, Gabby, Olivia and Chloe, the Lions could not get the ball through the mid court and if they did, Marcus, Georgia, Sophie and Marley usually got the turnover. Ella was best on court today - every week Ella gives it everything she has and doesn’t stop running or trying to get the turnover. She came up with it many times today. Gabby also picked up an award for her give and go’s which we’ve worked on at training and Gab did it beautifully today on several occasions. Poppy picked up our third award for driving/leading to the ball and accurate goaling. Big thanks to brielle who sat off this week (rotations) but still came to training and worked hard, and was at the game today to support her team and cheer them on. Big game next week against Euroa who are also undefeated. Let’s go Saints U15’s Netball Written by coach Alyssa Quigg On Sunday the U15’s went up against Seymour excited to be back after the break. The whole team played amazing and showed there skills on the court which resulted in us coming home with a win. A big thank you to Seymour for a great game and great sportsmanship. Our best ons went to Mackenzie for her amazing defensive skills and her ability to improve and impress each week, Sophie one of our incredible goal shooters who never fails to give her all and goes out each week continuing to show us how amazing of a player she is and Ava for being such an amazing defender and making the opposing team work for their goals. A huge congratulations to the whole team on an amazing win.

08.01.2022 Can you help? We are putting the call out for Volunteers. We have two vital positions available that we need to fill. They’re both equally important to the club’s longevity. Each of these positions can be ran by one person or a small team. ... Firstly: We are in very serious need for a CANTEEN COORDINATOR If we cannot find anyone to do this there will be no canteen for the 2020 season. We have only got 7 home games that we need the canteen for this season. Please have a really good think about taking on this role. If you’re not confident to run things on your own and would feel better if there were a couple of people in this role, please come forward and let us know of your interest. The canteen is a huge part of our game day culture and we all know the kids love getting their canteen vouchers after a great game and going straight out to get their treat. Please help us to keep this going. Secondly: We has great success with our fundraising last season and would love to keep the momentum going. We require a FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR to run all of fundraising needs from minor to major. If this is something you’re interested in please do come forward and let us know of your interest. We need to all do our part to ensure our children have a successful season and keep our clubs future going strong for generations to come.
