22.01.2022 It's been a big week at Riverview Farm with the birth of some spring lambs and new yards set up for the 20/21 Cattle Program. For our young men who come from the land, the Farm is a little agricultural haven in the city...

21.01.2022 Say hello to Anya, one of our therapy dogs. Anya plays an important role providing emotional support for our students and is a valuable member of the Health Centre. She also happens to look extremely spiffy in the blue and white!

21.01.2022 Today's lunch was a special one for the students in our Inclusion Program, as they devoured burgers they'd cooked themselves, using fresh vegetables they'd grown themselves, on the picnic benches that their Year 11 students made themselves! Program Coordinator Mr Toby Martin said, "The Inclusion Program at Riverview offers students with significant learning challenges the opportunity to immerse themselves in mainstream education and College life. The program is one of the ma...ny educational approaches throughout the College but plays an integral role in fostering growth and inclusivity among the entire school community. "One of the things the students are being taught this term is to have a greater appreciation of where their food comes from and a greater understanding of healthy food choices. This year we've encouraged the adoption of a more sustainable approach in cultivating their vegie patch, which is then incorporated into the students' cooking lessons." Well done boys!

20.01.2022 Shout out to our Year 12 students, who are not only gearing up for the start of the HSC, but a number have already been accepted for early entry to universities in Australia (with others favourably positioned for entry into universities overseas). Special congratulations are extended to Noah Allan, who was recently awarded the prestigious Kambri Indigenous Scholarship at The Australian National University after already having received the B&V Toomey Prize for Aboriginal Studies at the Valete Ceremony (pictured)

19.01.2022 Congratulations James Tracey (OR2013), this year’s recipient of the Patrick Rodgers’ Memorial Award, which is presented to an Old Boy who has continued their service in a faithful and committed manner since graduation. James has an extensive record of giving himself in Ignatian Service, both overseas and in Australia. He spent 16 months working as a teacher and carer with impoverished communities in Thailand, Central Vietnam, and Nepal, working with the poorest of the poor, ...supporting ministries that only operate out of the generosity of people like James. Each of these occasions has seen James spend between four and eight months in a community, establishing long-term relationships. The strength of these relationships led him to return to reconnect with members of the communities on a number of occasions. James has the profound belief that education is key for those who find themselves stuck in a continual cycle of poverty. As the recipient of a very privileged education, James’ Ignatian Service work post-school has seen him continue to pass on his knowledge for the empowerment of the lives of others. 15.01.2022 On 2nd October, Darcy Henry, a beloved member of Campion House and Year 8 student, tragically passed away from a very rare and unexpected cardiac condition. This morning, the Riverview community joined together with Darcy’s family and peers to console each other, pray for the Henry family, and to reflect on his memory. Darcy’s friends shared moving memories of him as a young man who thought about others first and was a friend to everybody he was funny, kind, brilliant and j...oyful. A coral bark maple tree was planted in his memory in the Rose Garden near the Woods Music Centre, a place of special meaning for music-loving Darcy. Darcy’s parents, Karen and Michael, shared: On behalf of our family to the boys and the staff of the College, thank you so much for making Riverview a place that Darcy loved to come, and thank you for the important part that you played in Darcy becoming the beautiful young man that he was. Dr Paul Hine said, We confront times of enormous emotional difficulty, and as we do so, we draw on our Catholic faith in the knowledge that Darcy is in the arms of his loving God.

15.01.2022 Meet the Riverview Equestrian Team, who travelled to Coonabarabran NSW last week to compete at the North West Equestrian Expo. The riders competed in a wide range of events, including working stock horse challenges, barrel racing and team penning and they all did an amazing job said Mr Roffey, Head of Agriculture. Well done to Archie (Year 9) for being awarded Champion Prelim Dressage Rider, Hunter (Year 10) for coming in 3rd in the 95cm show jumping, and the entire team for their solid performances while representing the College!

14.01.2022 Today we’re excited to share a new way to experience Riverview, via an immersive virtual tour experience on our website. The tour captures key spots from around the Senior Campus, Regis Campus and our senior boarding home, Kevin Fagan House. Come and explore the tour here: https://riverview.youtour.com.au/

13.01.2022 On Wednesday, the Ignatian and Regis Choirs performed in front of nearly 6000 people for the 10th annual Stand Tall event at the ICC in Darling Harbour. Their performance of ‘Rise Up’ was in support of our own Alex Noble (OR2020), a guest speaker at the event who shared his journey of determination and resilience. I’m so proud of our students for performing with great energy and distinction, said Mr Watters, Head of Music Faculty. Thank you to the Stand Tall organisation for allowing us to share this moment of great significance for Alex. We congratulate Alex as he continues to be an inspiration to so many, and well done to the Ignatian and Regis Choirs on their wonderful performance.

12.01.2022 The return of the khaki uniform means summer's in the air! It's good to have our students back on campus for what we hope will be a wonderful Term 4.

12.01.2022 Thank you to Mrs Melissa McGuinness for sharing your impactful presentation ‘You Choose Youth Road Safety’ with our Year 11 students this morning - a session focused on the importance of road safety and making conscious decisions to eliminate risk taking behaviour.

11.01.2022 MEDIA STATEMENT A 12-month-old black steer that recently arrived at Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview, as part of the College’s Agricultural program, broke through one of the stock-proof fences late last night. The steer is currently missing and was last sighted in the Lane Cove area. We have alerted the appropriate authorities and are working to locate the steer for a safe return back to the farm. The College has concerns regarding the welfare and safety of the animal as wel...l as concerns for any potential injury that may be caused to any member of the local community which may be incurred due to the steer roaming in a highly urbanised area. The College welcomes support from the local community in providing any information regarding the animal’s location so that we may safely collect and return him to the Riverview Farm. In the event that any member of the public sights the steer or has any information that could assist in his return, please contact the College reception on 9882 8222 or 0403 123 503.

11.01.2022 Saint Ignatius' College Riverview is excited to welcome Fr Tom Renshaw SJ (OR1990) as our new Rector from 2021. Fr Renshaw is not only himself an old boy, but he also comes from a line of Riverview men stretching back to 1930. While this is an exciting step for us, we also wish to acknowledge our sad loss of Fr Gerry at the end of this year. In the words of Dr Hine in today's Viewpoint, Fr Gerry's "gentle and generous presence, wisdom and care around the College has been a wonderful asset during [this] challenging year."

09.01.2022 The long-awaited Year 9 Challenge has finally begun! After many doubts that we would be able to run the 2020 Challenge due to COVID-19, we are very excited to deliver an engaging program that aims to develop students’ resilience, independence, team work and initiative over 2.5 weeks. The program has been modified to ensure our community's wellbeing, with the option for a Virtual Learning Mode of the Year 9 Challenge available to those boys unable to attend in person. Thanks t...o Digital/Domestic King Day, we can confirm that the boys know how to clean a toilet, iron their own shirts, sew on a button and change a tyre. Hopefully this will save families some time (and nagging)! The boys also completed a Digital Citizenship Course and engaged in a pastoral talk on safety online. Read more about the Challenge in tomorrow's Viewpoint! (Mrs Vanessa Peterson) See more

07.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 9 Magis students Harry, Joseph, Thomas, Thomas and Owen (pictured with JRS Officer Anne Nesbitt and Ms Amy Lester), who competed for the JRS Youth Award last week. Students were asked to curate museum displays to represent the challenges faced by refugees and people seeking asylum, and all five of their displays were visually engaging and highly informative. A special mention goes to the winning display by Owen and runner-up Joseph for their particularly outstanding work.

06.01.2022 Last week, members of our community collected their mystery veggie boxes, filled with delicious organic produce harvested by Cana Farm in Orchard Hills. Cana Farm offers transitional employment and a safe place of belonging for people who have lived on the margins and suffered severe disadvantage, often through illness, addiction and homelessness. Our students visit Cana Farm multiple times a year to work alongside this community, to listen and learn from their stories, and to serve them as part of their Ignatian Service. All funds generated from the sale of the veggie boxes go directly to helping them rebuild their future. Boxes are delivered to the College each month please check Viewpoint to see when the next delivery is due and place your order.

01.01.2022 Good luck to all our Year 12s whose HSC examinations began today. We're praying for you and cheering you on! Here's a prayer that may help before your exams: Lord, as I prepare for this examination,... let your strength and your wisdom be present to me. May I revise my work thoroughly. May I understand what it is I have to know. May my memory be reliable and orderly. May I be calm and focused on the task ahead. May I know and feel the love and support of my family and friends. And may you, the author and creator of all things, enlighten me. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. (Adrian Porter SJ) See more
