25.01.2022 HYDRATION We often underestimate the power of staying hydrated and ensuring were getting enough water in throughout the day. Hydration is essential for so many processes within the body, that is why well typically notice brain fog, fatigue or a headache when we havent had much water throughout the day. Keeping the body hydrated helps to improve:... - The blood, helping it to remain fluid, flow freely and carry oxygen and nutrients to where they are needed - Mental clarity, concentration and focus - Muscle function and recovery - Energy levels - The skin, helping to give it that glow! - Digestion and nutrient absorption - Elimination of toxins and wastes from the body. Aim for 2L of water every day, more if you are physically active. Try having a 1L water bottle and aim to finish two each day. You can infuse water with things like lemon, mint, ginger, cucumber, lime or berries if you dont enjoy the taste of plain water. Now that we are in winter, brewing up a pot of herbal tea and sipping throughout the day is another great way to get your water in and stay warm too! #hydration

24.01.2022 JING In Chinese medicine, Jing is regarded as a highly valuable and precious source that is seen as finite and something that is difficult to replace once used up. Jing is a substance or an energy that is acquired from both parents, it is housed in the kidneys and plays a vital role in fertility as it is intimately connected with both male and female reproductive processes. ... Many things can deplete our jing including chronic stress and exhaustion, trauma, major crisis or serious illness. Throughout the course of our daily lives can also influence our jing, for men this is every ejaculation, and for women this can be each menstrual cycle and childbirth. Jing can be conserved by embodying a balanced lifestyle of eating well, managing stress in a healthy manner and practicing more gentle exercises like tai chi and qi gong. Jing can be nourished through the diet with foods such as chicken or duck eggs, caviar, seeds and nuts (particularly walnuts), bee pollen, artichoke leaf, nettles, oats, oysters and raw milk. Other animal-based products like organs, marrow, brains and kidneys also nourish jing as well as plant-based options like algae and seaweeds. See more

24.01.2022 Blueberries are jam-packed little powerhouses bursting with phytonutrients. They are packed with polyphenols and antioxidants as well as having heart and brain-protective properties. Blueberries have a sweet-sour taste and are cooling in nature. In Chinese medicine they are used to clear heat, damp and eliminate toxins from the body.... They benefit the liver and kidneys, stimulate the brain and are used to strengthen the body and overall vitality. The colours black and blue reflect the water element that correlates to the kidneys, highlighting their importance for kidney health. 21.01.2022 C u p p i n g Have you tried it? This therapy is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is often incorporated into acupuncture treatments Cupping acts like a reverse massage by creating a tight suction on the skin which helps release tight muscles and fascia. 21.01.2022 The fertile window Did you know that youre only fertile on certain days of your cycle? An egg is released once per menstrual cycle (ovulation) and can only survive for 24 hours unless fertilized. 19.01.2022 Periods provide a ton of information about your overall health - they can be thought of as your monthly report card During a Chinese medicine consultation lots of questions are asked about your menstrual cycle and periods. This helps us to understand where there may be imbalances, deficiencies or stagnation in the body. Regular acupuncture treatments promote regular cycles, less painful periods and reduced PMS. 17.01.2022 BONE BROTH Bone broth is considered as one of the most nutritious and healing foods to date. It is renowned for its ability to assist in healing the gut and improving digestion, strengthening the immune system, reducing inflammation in the body, calming the nervous system and bringing relief to inflammatory conditions like arthritis. Bone broth is rich in trace minerals like magnesium, manganese, phosphorus and calcium, helping to strengthen our bones. It is also rich in... collagen and gelatin, working to strengthen the intestinal lining as well as our hair, nails and skin. In TCM, broth made from beef marrow bones is considered nourishing to our overall constitution and is very grounding. Chicken bone broth is more versatile and has a milder flavour. Its used to support and boost the immune system. Bone broth is very easy to make, you just need organic bones (beef marrow, chicken frames, pork bones - are some of the more commonly used bones), cup apple cider vinegar to help extract the nutrients from the bones, a slow cooker and water to fill. Let everything simmer for a minimum of 24 hours before straining the broth. Alternatively, there are concentrates that require no cooking time, just add hot water. You can enjoy these on their own, stir into sauces, curries, stir fries or any other savoury dish you can think of. We love @gevityrx and @bestofthebone bone broth concentrates and you can find both here in the clinic Photo credit @minimalistbaker See more

17.01.2022 Do you feel tired after lunch? The stomach channel is considered the king of the yang meridians as it runs from head to toe, crossing the chest, abdomen and pelvic organs. It passes through important glands like the thyroid, parathyroid and mammillary glands, playing an important role in treating hormonal imbalances.... Stimulating the stomach channel can assist the body to better digest, absorb and utilize nutrients from the foods we eat. It helps with digestive complaints like bloating, nausea and vomiting, stimulates appetite and supports healthy digestion. Starting below the knee, run your finger to the outside edge of the bony prominence of the leg, about two fingerbreadths out this is the leg portion of the stomach channel. If you don’t have a gua sha or porcelain spoon, your fingers will work just as well. Run your fingers down along this portion of the channel with a somewhat firm pressure, down to the ankle and repeat several times. You can do this anytime you feel like you need a boost of energy or if digestion is feeling a bit sluggish. Or if you had a massive lunch and now feel like a nap! #stomach #digestion #energyboost #foodcoma photo credit: tcm007

16.01.2022 Hi! I'm Amie, the face behind Sakura Acupuncture Clinic. I thought I would introduce myself as I see there are a few new faces following the clinic! I started Sakura in 2017 and have now set up my beautiful home-based clinic in the leafy suburb of Carina Heights. ... Sakura was named after the Japanese cherry blossoms, but i'll save that story for another time! I am one of 5 daughters and was originally born in the U.K. I have been working in the health industry for 15 years and fell into the natural medicine world whilst walking my own health journey. In 2017 I had a scoliosis correction, and whilst this was a major surgery, it propelled me into the direction of where I am today. I have two fur babies, Teddy & Basil (some of you may have seen their faces peering through the window!). Nothing makes me happier than reading a book in the garden, trying out new recipes, travelling, doing yoga or rose petal baths . For the last 4 years my husband and I have taken part in the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, a charity close to home, supporting the Movember foundation. We just rode in this year's event over the weekend and had the best day! (Swipe to see photos) Is there anything else you'd like to know about me? Ask me anything in the comments below!

16.01.2022 Tampons, pads and the environment Most tampons contain chemicals such as dioxin, chlorine and rayon. While the products sit in landfills, these chemicals get soaked up by the earth and are released as pollution into groundwater and air. We dont think any of the above substances should get anywhere near the most sensitive area on our body. Tampons, pads and panty liners along with their packaging and individual wrapping generate more than 200,000 tonnes of waste p...er year, and they all contain plastic in fact, pads are around 90% plastic! The average user throws away an astonishing 125 to 150kg of tampons, pads and applicators in their lifetime. The time it takes for a tampon or pad to degrade in a landfill is centuries longer than the lifespan of the individual who used it particularly when its wrapped in plastic. In addition to that, the process of manufacturing these products is both resource and chemical intensive. Unlike disposable period products, Menstrual Cups are reusable for years and have a minimal impact on the environment compared to tampons and pads. Period underwear such as @modibodi are also becoming increasingly popular alternatives. Credit: blog post from OrganiCup Image Credit: @thefemalecompany via Unsplash See more

14.01.2022 ENDOMETRIOSIS Endometriosis is an inflammatory condition affecting at least 1 in 10 women. It is a result of endometrial tissue growing outside the endometrium (the innermost lining of the uterus) and can spread to the pelvis, bowel, intestines and has even been found around the brain, heart and joints. Symptoms of Endometriosis include period pain, pain with intercourse, heavy menstrual bleeding, IBS-like symptoms, chronic fatigue, painful bowel movements, abnormal uterine ...bleeding, bladder issues, painful and bloated pregnant-lile belly and fertility issues. Endometriosis often goes underdiagnosed and untreated as many women are told period pain is normal and therefore may never seek out help. 13.01.2022 Lutenising Hormone (LH) and Ovulation Measuring an LH surge can be helpful when you are trying to fall pregnant. Around day 14 of the cycle, a surge in LH levels triggers the release of an egg from the ovary (ovulation). ... During weeks 3-4 LH plays a key role in producing progesterone, which is required to support the early stages of pregnancy, if fertilisation occurs. When you see a positive reading on ovulation test strips - it usually means you will ovulate within the next 24-40 hours. Other ways to check for ovulation: Temperature tracking Cervix position Fertile mucus (cervical fluid) If you would like to know more, please message your questions through or call Amie on 0413 534 665 See more

12.01.2022 By the time we reach 27, fertility starts to slowly decline with a sharp drop around 35 and a small window of possibility after 40. IVF success rates range between 20-25% with an average of 6-9 cycles needed before a successful pregnancy. While these statistics may seem a little daunting, there is still a lot that acupuncture can help with. According to the BMJ (2008) acupuncture alone can help improve IVF pregnancy rates by 65%.... There are also studies to support acupuncture increasing the likelihood of a continuing pregnancy from 12 weeks gestation by 87%. Combine acupuncture with herbs, supplements, diet and lifestyle improvements and these numbers will increase again. Not only helping to support a healthy pregnancy but nourishing mum and bub and supporting a happy healthy family. Image Credit: nile via Pixabay Posted using @plannthat

11.01.2022 MOXIBUSTION for BREECH or TRANSVERSE presentation Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy that involves burning mugwort (a herb) over specific acupuncture points on the body. Specifically for #breech or #transverse it is used over acupuncture point UB67 to support the mothers body, to help babies move into optimal position. This treatment is most effective starting at 34 weeks, before baby has grown too large. However, Ive had success turning babies a...s late as 39 weeks!! A 3 year study published in AJCM (2001) based in a facility where 1437 births were reported examined how effective moxibustion and acupuncture were in turning breech presentation. The control group consisted of 224 women. This group was given exercise and external cephalic manipulation. They had a spontaneous correction rate of 73%. The experimental group consisted of 133 women. They received 30 minutes of moxibustion to UB67 daily and acupuncture, but no exercise or external cephalic manipulation. They had a correction rate of 92%. The study concluded that acupuncture and moxibustion is a safe and effective modality to correct breech presentation in a clinical setting. Pressure can be used on both wrists or only one, whatever is more practical. It is possible to buy wrist bands that apply pressure to this point. These are available through pharmacies, sold as a remedy for motion sickness. Take care that once in place, the pressure exerted on the skin is firm but not uncomfortable. (Reference: Debra Betts)
