24.01.2022 May the world continue to be supportive and kind post 2020

23.01.2022 One day late in 2008, the two of us decided we would move to London. By February 2009 we were on a plane to Africa. We travelled the world for nearly 6 months before settling in London for the next few years. It was one of the best decisions of our lives. The beginning of Sakura Allied Health was not dissimilar to our decision to drop everything and move overseas. It happened quickly and we wouldn’t change it for the world. This decision, however (pictured) may not have been our finest moment... (Christmas, Switzerland, 2010)

22.01.2022 Imagine if we told everyone in Australia that they had to meet a complete stranger, maybe for just 20 minutes, who would do an assessment on them that they wouldn’t get to see the outcome of, the results of which would determine what the next 12 months of their life would look like. People are up in arms about wearing a mask, just imagine if this was enforced! For a lot of people, what is happening with the NDIS or for people with a disability might not seem very relevant as it might not impact them directly. Anyone with 5 minutes tonight, we encourage you to read this and sign the petition - people with a disability deserve so much better than this.

20.01.2022 More than 700 people from all around the country told us their stories and gave us their ideas for our submission to the Tune Review last year. This big brick w...as the result. So how many people asked for more hoops to jump through to get the support they need? We will give you a hint ... None. We've heard from so many of you about your concerns about the introduction of independent assessments to the NDIS. Now it's time the Minister heard them too. So jump on our website and send him an email. Tell him it's time to start talking to people with disability and their families before this goes any further. You can find the form to email him here - https://everyaustraliancounts.com.au/questions-for-ministe/ And if you want to read more about independent assessments and the Tune review you can find our explainer here - https://everyaustraliancounts.com.au/testing-times-in-the-/ #NDISMakeItWork (Image description: A picture of a big fat submission sitting on a wooden desk. The front cover of the submission is yellow. There is a big red rotary phone in the middle of the page. The text at the top reads "Tune review submissions: Appendix. October 2019. The Every Australian Counts logo is in the top left hand corner)

20.01.2022 Scrolling through Instagram we stumbled across this awesome brand inclusion_revolution - cool t-shirts celebrating diversity, available for everyone, even minis! One in every colour is needed, we think! Awesome people doing awesome work

08.01.2022 The things that sound most simple are not always simple for everyone. The new SDA rules from the NDIA will be life changing for so many. People with disabilities can now live in an adapted home with their loved ones. An amazing step forward for the sector and a credit to the advocates who worked so hard to achieve this change #disabilityawareness #disabilityequality #ndisprovider

07.01.2022 Why live a ‘normal’ life when you can live a vivid one!? We are now taking new referrals - shoot us a DM, email or give us a call!

06.01.2022 Thanks Action Occupational Therapy for the heads up on this heart warming speech. Cheers Dylan, from OTs everywhere

01.01.2022 Love seeing stories like this pop into our feed! @goodnews_movement Then 16-year-old Matthew Walzer, who has Cerebral Palsy, wrote to Nike in 2012 saying he was disappointed no athletic brand had thought to create sneakers adapted for people with disabilities like him. Part of the letter reads:... Out of all the challenges I have overcome in my life, there is one that I am still trying to master, tying my shoes. Cerebral palsy stiffens the muscles in the body. As a result I have flexibility in only one of my hands which makes it impossible for me to tie my shoes. My dream is to go to the college of my choice without having to worry about someone coming to tie my shoes everyday." Nike brought the teen visionary on to create a hinged sneaker that closes upon pressing ones heal down (see graphic above) and is therefore hands-free. The ‘Nike FlyEase’ designed by Nike’s Toby Hatfield was unveiled today and will be available Feb 15 to select Nike members then released widely after and will cost around $120.

01.01.2022 Your health and safety is our biggest priority. As of Monday 27th July your Sakura Allied Health therapists will be wearing face masks for our home visits. We also have the option to complete Telehealth consults if you’re more comfortable with this. Give us a call to have a chat about what will work best for you and we will work together with you to make it happen

01.01.2022 Even on rainy, windy days escaping to the water is something we appreciate and never take for granted. Thinking of all our friends, family and colleagues in the UK today. Stay safe

01.01.2022 And just like that, the sun sets on our holiday and we are back in full force! We can’t wait to see you this year, with some very exciting new additions to our little team!
