24.01.2022 Children and young people with Developmental Language Disorder are as able and healthy as other children. With one primary exception: they have difficulty thinking about, understanding and using language. They are often as intelligent as any other child their age, but they still have difficulties learning language. https://saldari.org.au #salda #theglenleighdenschool

16.01.2022 UNDERSTANDING DEVELOPMENTAL LANGUAGE DISORDER Children with Developmental Language Disorder (formerly Specific Language Impairment) are as able and healthy as other children. With one exception, they have great difficulty thinking about, understanding and using language. They are often as intelligent as other children their age, but still have difficulties with language. There may be no outward signs of disability and no obvious physical indicators of a problem. For this reason, Developmental Language Disorder is also known as a ‘hidden disability’ affecting 1 in 14 children. #salda #theglenleighdenschool

15.01.2022 Did You Know? School Support Services visit schools in metropolitan, regional and rural areas across Queensland. 13.01.2022 Every child deserves the chance to succeed at school. Getting a good start in school provides the foundation for a child’s learning and development for the rest of their lives. The reality is children grow and develop at very different rates. Those who have difficulties developing speech and language skills face an uphill battle to engage and achieve within their educational setting. By the time a child starts school they are expected to have achieved certain developmental mi...lestones, however research indicates two children in every classroom across Australia are affected by Language Disorder. These students often present with difficulties following directions, communicating in the classroom and regulating their behaviour. They frequently go unidentified, because their poor language skills and academic performance are attributed to other difficulties. For over 35 years, SALDA School Support Services has been enhancing outcomes for students with Language Disorder through consultation, capacity building through intensive support and professional learning for school staff. School Support Services visit schools across metropolitan, regional and rural areas of Queensland. The service works collaboratively across all three education sectors in Queensland (State Schools, Catholic Education and Independent Schools Queensland) to ensure individualised approaches are developed to support each student to access the curriculum in a safe and supportive environment. https://bit.ly/2HoRyKx #salda #theglenleighdenschool

08.01.2022 A day in the life of a ......Speech Language Pathologist. Hi, I’m Tom. I’m a speech language pathologist with SALDA at The Glenleighden School. I started at Glenleighden in January 2019, working in Senior School. I work with students from Grades 7 12, who all have difficulties using and understanding language. My role is to support their language development, both inside and outside the classroom. Each student that I work with is unique, and I love being able to work with such a range of different personalities and help make a difference at such an important time in their lives. #salda #theglenleighdenschool

04.01.2022 Developmental Language Disorder looks different in everyone and can be difficult to understand, because the exact cause is unknown. We do know the speech and language part of the brain develops different to others and Developmental Language Disorder can run in families. https://saldari.org.au #salda #theglenleighdenschool

02.01.2022 E-SERVICES To ensure all schools (including metropolitan, regional and rural) receive an equitable service, School Support Services utilises both face-to-face and e-services to enable access to the program. All schools receive an initial visit face-to-face, as the teams regularly travel around Queensland. Additional services, such as the intensive support program, are delivered online for regional and rural schools. Schools are required to provide a computer or laptop with ad...equate internet connection to handle the software provided by School Support Services. The team is well equipped to troubleshoot with school staff prior to intensive support beginning, however there may be a need to engage with the school IT provider. Current research supports the delivery of intensive support via videoconferencing and telehealth platforms. Outcomes are consistent whether the program is delivered face-to-face or via e-services. #salda #theglenleighdenschool
