25.01.2022 Seppelt is one of the pioneers of Australian Sparking Wine, producing its first vintage in the 1890s under the stewardship of Hans Irvine and Frenchman Charles Pierlot. An enduring dedication to sparkling excellence has been passed down by generations of winemaking greats for over 125 years, ensuring that the current range of sparkling wines both reflect the best of old traditions and modern innovations. Produced using the traditional method of sparkling production, individual components of pristine Henty fruit were fermented separately before being blended to form the base wine. Seppelt Salinger is bottle-fermented and matured for a minimum of three years on less before disgorging, and is a sparkling wine with great elegance and finesse. 17.01.2022 Here's a bit more history about the iconic Salinger's Cafe building. Mr. Salinger was a member of one of the original vine growing families in Great Western in the 1880’s. His daughter, Elena later went on to marry Charles Pierlot, famous Champagne maker employed by Hans Irvine who once owned the Seppelt Winery. Mr. Emmanuel Salinger died in 1911 and his two daughters Maud & Henrietta ran the business and their brother, Henry, carted goods around town. The store used to sell groceries, drapery, shoes, boots, fancy goods and stationery. Henry Best’s original Nursery Block, containing more than 40 different varieties and featuring his old Shiraz and Pinot Meunier plantings, are among Australia’s most valuable vineyard resources. Chardonnay was one of the first varietals planted in the Concongella Vineyard in the 1970s, even though cuttings were extremely hard to come by at the time. 05.01.2022 The Salinger’s Cafe building has a long history in Great Western, with Emmanuel Salinger building the original wooden General Store on the site in 1862. In 1899 the original wooden building, known as The Hermitage, was moved back to make way for a new brick General Store and residence. In November 1899, Mr. Salinger opened the store and partnered with a Stawell decorator to create the beautiful signage out the front of the store. Two wooden rooms were later added by Mr. Charl...es Bullock to be used as store rooms. The exposed brick walls and polished wooden floors gives the cafe a warm ambiance, which is made all the more so by the delicious coffee and meals.
