19.01.2022 Public Holiday Trading Exemption Adelaide Cup The State Government has recently announced that all shops across suburban Adelaide will be permitted to open their doors on the Adelaide Cup Day public holiday next month. It will also provide greater freedom of choice for employers to trade if they want to, giving workers the option of earning extra money with additional hours and provides a further boost to SA’s strong ongoing economic and jobs recovery from COVID-19.... Treasurer Rob Lucas has granted a special Ministerial exemption under the Shop Trading Hours Act 1977 which gives all retailers regardless of size and location the opportunity to trade from 9am - 5pm on Monday, March 8. While smaller shops (i.e. those under 200sqm) and supermarkets (those under 400sqm) right across Adelaide can trade whenever they like and, therefore, could have opened on the public holiday previously the only larger, non-exempt retailers that were able to trade on this particular day in the past were those in the CBD (from 11am to 5pm). Under this exemption, CBD businesses will be granted an extra 2 hours’ trade in the morning.

19.01.2022 Office Christmas parties don't need to be a thing of the past, although the 4m2 restriction is making them more challenging. But we're all up for the challenge. *Order delivery or takeaway and dine in at work... * Book for lunch or dinner for dine in * Have more than one Chrissy party and share the love across our hospitality businesses who are still finding it tough to get on their feet * Morning tea one day * Lunch one day * Afternoon tea one day * And ... repeat the cycle :) As always it's about LOCALS supporting LOCALS. Thank you!

18.01.2022 It’s a 2-way street. Your boss can ask you to work on a public holiday as long as the request is reasonable. And you can say no to a request to work if you’ve g...ot reasonable grounds to refuse. What’s reasonable depends on: - your personal circumstances, (eg. family responsibilities) - whether you’ll get more pay (eg. penalty rates) - the needs of the workplace - the type of work you do - whether your salary includes work on a public holiday - whether you’re full-time, part-time, casual or a shiftworker - how much notice you’ve been given to work - the amount of notice you give when refusing to work - any other relevant factor. Find out more about working on public holidays: https://www.fairwork.gov.au//pu/working-on-public-holidays

This is a great local initiative, driven by locals to support locals. I take my hat off to these guys for coming up with this concept and wish them all the best for the coming months. Their efforts greatly complement our own shop/eat local campaigns encouraging customers and clients to support local bus...inesses and for local businesses to support other local businesses. Its a great WIN WIN! Check out their Facebook page, and share your business for FREE! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1559118777597710/about Your support would be much appreciated.

16.01.2022 Today is ... National Family Business Day It is a day designed to recognise the invaluable contribution family businesses make to the Australian economy, community and culture. Family businesses are the backbone of Australia, with many of Australias largest and most loved companies starting off as a family business. Iconic Australian brands such as Brown Brothers Wines, Coopers Brewery, Akubra Hats, Haighs Chocolates, Beerenberg, Kennards Hire & Self Storage and Bakers Delig...ht started life as a family business and many remain family owned today. But its not just the large businesses that make a difference. The local corner store where you buy your morning paper, the vet you take your dog to for its annual check-up, the plumber who fixed your leaking tap, they are all likely family-owned businesses. National Family Business Day is a chance to celebrate family business in all its forms from the very large brands, you buy from every day to the smaller operators starting on the journey of building a future for their family.

Well, March 2021 sees us ‘round off the program’, and it’s all FACE-TO-FACE, no ZOOM!.... The beginning of 2021 has been a ‘mixed bag’ for business. Whilst great to see new businesses opening, properties being leased and sold, we are also sadly seeing businesses closing down and For Lease signs re-appearing. The Business Showcase aims to help local businesses thrive, develop new contacts and broaden their networks, ensure that they were kept up to date with the latest information and celebrate the many amazing businesses we have right here on our doorstep. To help both new businesses starting out and existing businesses to refocus their efforts for the months ahead, we’ve got a range of workshops & events to support and assist you. 1 hour Setting Up A Facebook Business Page Workshop on Tuesday 2nd March, the cost is just $20 per person. 1-on-1 Business Health Checks Wednesday 10th (PM sessions) and Thursday 18th March (AM sessions) One hour Business Planning Workshop - Wednesday 24th March at 4.30pm focussing on How to Complete a Business Plan. Networking rounds out the month with both the Northern Business Breakfast and Polaris Wednesday Wind Down. Wednesday 24th, 7am - Playford Bowling Club, the Rotary Clubs of Salisbury and Elizabeth will present their popular monthly Northern Business Breakfast. Stay tuned for the details around the guest speaker. Join us for networking over a cooked breakfast - no better way to start your day. Last day of the month, the 31st March is the perfect date to Wind Down and reflect on the end of the first quarter over drinks and nibbles, with guest speakers and networking opportunities. Join us at the Polaris Centre for a great ‘catch up’ opportunity. Starts at 5.30pm. For more information on all these events, check out either our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SalisburyBusinessShowcaseMonth or The Polaris Centre’s website https://www.polariscentre.com.au/events/ The Salisbury Business Showcase is a collaborative partnership between the Salisbury Business Association, The Polaris Centre, City of Salisbury, SA, Australia, SA Small Business Commissioner and the Rotary Club of Salisbury, and supported by the Women in Business Network, celebrates, supports and showcases the wonderful array of businesses across the City of Salisbury. By supporting local businesses we will see employment grow, more investment, new business opportunities open up, great community engagement through sponsorship opportunities, and much, much more. PS We’ll be celebrating the Salisbury Business Showcase annually each October. Follow our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SalisburyBusinessShowcaseMonth

05.01.2022 The City of Salisbury, in its response to COVID-19, introduced a range of measures in April to support the community and business and this included taking a fle...xible approach to timed parking restrictions where appropriate to allow residents to continue to access local businesses. From September the enforcement measures for timed parking restrictions have returned to normal so it is important that all drivers read the signs and park within the required time limits.

03.01.2022 Christmas Message from our Board Chair Stephan Knoll This year is drawing to a close and now is the chance to take just a few moments to reflect on the year that was and to look forward to the year ahead. This year, the Association marked 30 years of supporting local businesses within the Salisbury City Centre and with everything that has gone on, we will celebrate this in 2021.... 2020 has been a challenging year to say the least, but most of us have ‘weathered the storm’ and whilst a bit battered and bruised continue to provide our goods and services and maintain strong relationships with our customer base. Our task as the SBA Board continues to represent active member numbers, increase community engagement and seek increase in economic activity within the whole levy paying City Centre precinct. The SBA is looking forward to seeing continuous positive change. Looking forward, 2021 will see some exciting activities and ventures that will positively impact on the City Centre, local businesses and traders, as well as our customers, including: The City of Salisbury will undertake a $3M John Street upgrade Church Street upgrades will also commence Announcements will be made around the former Len Beadall Library site More Salisbury Community Hub and Civic Plaza activation delivered by the City of Salisbury Adelaide to Gawler Rail electrification Salisbury Business Showcase Month 30th Salisbury Community Christmas Parade At year’s end I would again like to thank all of those who have worked so hard, in particular our Executive Officer, David Waylen, who continues to work tirelessly with great dedication and enthusiasm to support our local businesses and providing timely and valuable information, and this year, especially concerning COVID related matters Thank you to the SBA committee members (all of whom are volunteers) who are continuing or joining us for the first time, I wish you well and look forward to your regular and active involvement to influence the association’s achievements. To our SPONSORS, OFFICIAL PARTNERS, CITY OF SALISBURY, SUPPLIERS AND STAKEHOLDERS Thank you for your continued support. To our Elected Members, City of Salisbury Executive, to those engaging and active council employees, you know who you are, thank you for continuing to listen and to actively participate in the positive change we are now witnessing being nurtured, and which will allow the positive change to hopefully become infectious and lead to the improvement of all of the buildings in the main street and greater business precinct. Personally, and on behalf of the Salisbury Business Association Board and Management, I would like to wish our entire community a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year. I look forward to working with you all in 2021. Stephan G Knoll Chairman Salisbury Business Association

02.01.2022 Did you see a COVID Marshal at a business over the weekend? We sure did and we would like to thank the community for the wonderful job in implementing the COVID... Marshal system. But we can do better, we need more members of our community to complete the training and act as a COVID Marshal in identified businesses and operations. COVID Marshals are people who are assigned to assist in the management of identified businesses or operations to apply South Australias COVID-19 Directions and restrictions. If you are still not sure whether your business or operation needs a COVID Marshal, check out this graphic below Remember that a COVID Marshal is required to be present and supervising prescribed businesses and operations at all times (unless the business is open for a 24hr period where a COVID Marshal must only be present and supervising at times of expected high patronage). Keep up the good work because together we reduce the risk of COVID-19 in South Australia. Read our latest media release on the requirements of the COVID Marshals here: https://www.police.sa.gov.au//front-/covid-marshal-update More information and to complete the COVID Marshal training visit: https://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au/recovery/covid-marshals
