25.01.2022 Salisbury East has proven to be the premier high school in the north when it comes to 5-a-side soccer! Both our Open Boys and Girls 'A' teams were crowned School Sport SA Northern Zone champions following an intense day of competition at Salisbury HS. They each went unbeaten in the group and finals stages, and recorded comprehensive victories in the Grand Finals to lift the trophies. Meanwhile, our second girls team finished a brilliant third overall - only missing out on a p...lace in the final after losing to their fellow SEHS students in the semis. And our second boys team, playing in a separate competition, almost made it a clean sweep of silverware for East by getting through to their Grand Final until the hosts managed to record a narrow win and leave them in the very respectable runners-up spot. It was yet another outstanding achievement for the SEHS Specialist Soccer students, who now look forward to testing themselves even further in the indoor Futsal state finals on August 31st! See more
25.01.2022 Our Year 10s have been preparing for their ‘mock interviews’ this Friday by creating videos on the dos and do nots! Every year, the SEHS Personal Learning Plan curriculum prepares our students for the world of work through tasks that include career matching, support networking, understanding employability skills, application and CV writing. They then put all this knowledge into action on the final day of their school year when they dress up in business attire, take part in a panel interview and attempt to win the ‘job’ they’ve applied for. And, to ensure they know exactly how to act, all the students made fun video guides explaining what to do, and what to avoid including this one by Charlise and Tara!
24.01.2022 Dear Families, It has been a great first week back. I'm really proud of how our students, staff and our wider community have worked together to overcome challenges to ensure the continuity of education and learning. Around 70% (550) of our students have returned to school this week and demonstrated a fantastic attitude in reengaging with their teachers and their learning. We also know that many of our students, who are still at home, are committing to their learning and enga...ging well with the fantastic online resources that our teachers have developed. I look forward to welcoming back even more students next week because we know that students learn most effectively at school in collaboration with their teachers and peers. If you previously indicated that you were going to keep your child/children home next week and have since changed your mind this is fine - just send them in. Thanks for your positivity and support during this period. If you have any questions or concerns please email me via [email protected] Take care! Principal Joe Priolo
24.01.2022 Dear Families, We hope that you have all coped as well as possible during this unusual holiday period. There have definitely been some encouraging signs, in regards to the transmission and recovery rates of the virus, over the last two weeks and hopefully we begin moving toward a sense of normality in the near future. Despite some reports in the media I can assure you that we are excited about getting more of our students back for the start of Term 2. In regards to schooling ...for Term 2, the message from the government has not changed - families that want or need to send their children to school can, and those that want or need to keep their children at home may do so. This is an extremely personal and individual family decision and there is no judgement either way. Whatever the case, no student will be disadvantaged as we are extremely well prepared to cater for both learning environments. Students who attend school will be accessing online learning platforms in their usual classes with their usual teachers - unless their teacher is unable to be at school due to medical reasons during this time. We will continue to implement and model all social distancing and hygiene protocols that we introduced during the later stages of Term 1 we have plenty of soap and hand sanitiser stations across the school and an increased cleaning regime throughout the school day. We will continue to leave lockers closed as use of these creates large congregations of students waiting to get access not in-line with physical distancing. Students should only bring what they need on any given day so their bags are not too heavy and cumbersome. There will be no assemblies, excursions or large gatherings of children in an inside environment during lesson or break times. In classes students will sit individually or, if necessary, end-to-end at tables to ensure maximum physical distancing. PE and Home Ec. lessons will continue to be modified. Please ensure that all students have water bottles as we have shut down our water bubblers/fountains across the school but there are numerous water stations for students to fill up water bottles. As a precaution please do not send your children to school if they have any cold or flu like symptoms we are taking the same precautions with staff. Thanks for your understanding and support during this period. If you have any questions or concerns please email me via [email protected] Take care, Principal Joe Priolo
24.01.2022 Our Open Boys and Girls soccer teams have both made it through to the School Sport SA Futsal State Finals! After a shaky start that ended in defeat to Craigmore, the SEHS girls regrouped and won every other five-a-side match to finish second in the northern zone qualifiers. The boys, meanwhile, were different class as they saw off all opponents in their highly competitive group and marched into the finals against the best of the best in South Australia next month. Well done East!

23.01.2022 The Smith Family is offering our students Learning for Life Scholarships. These are awarded to students in families experiencing financial disadvantage that have demonstrated a commitment to education and who would benefit from additional resources and support. The Smith Family, which is partnered with Salisbury East High School, now has openings for Learning for Life Scholarships for students in Year 8. Eligibility includes families having a current Pension Concession or... Health Care Card, while students need to demonstrate a strong commitment to education through a minimum 90% school attendance. Families who meet this criterion are encouraged to speak with our Middle School Wellbeing Coordinator Amelia Molnar. Please note, however, that meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee a scholarship and self-referrals cant be accepted they must be at the discretion of, and be submitted by, SEHS. 23.01.2022 Dear Salisbury East High School Community, After 17 years, it is sadly time for me to move on. I will be joining Seaton High School as a PE teacher/Specialist Softball coach. I want to thank to all staff, students, families, and community members that I have worked with during my time at Salisbury East. I am grateful for all of the experience, support, challenges and fun times I have had. SEHS is a great school and I am proud to have been a part of it for so many years.... Thank you all! Mel McGie
22.01.2022 Dear Parent/Caregiver, The Premier today announced that schools and preschools will reopen to all students on Monday, November 23rd. As a result, Salisbury East High School will be open and operating as normal. We will not be offering an alternative home-based learning program.... As the Chief Public Health Officer said, just because the hard lockdown is being lifted does not mean that the risks associated with COVID-19 have passed. As a result, we will minimise the number of people coming and going from our site. Wherever possible, please drop and collect your child at the gate and maintain the appropriate physical distance from other adults. More information on excursions, events and sporting activities, and the use of face masks, will be available soon. We will endeavour to post relevant and up to date information to the community via email, SMS text and Facebook. Thank you very much for your support over the last couple of days. We look forward to having your child back at Salisbury East High School on Monday. Kind Regards, Mark Hodgson Principal Salisbury East High School
22.01.2022 Dear Year 12 Students and Families, It has been a rollercoaster ride this year, but we WILL commemorate the end of the journey for the Class of 2020 at Salisbury East High School! Due to Health SA Covid-19 directions, however, we unfortunately cannot have all parents and students together in the same venue. Therefore, our plan is to host students only onsite, in the SEHS Dance Studio, on Wednesday, December 2nd, from 2 to 3 p.m. for a special graduation and awards ceremony.... We also plan to live stream/record the event for family viewing. Please contact the school on 8258 2070 if you have any questions or issues in relation to this arrangement. Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding during this time. Kind regards, Sue Shepherd Head of Senior School

21.01.2022 Our Year 12s are lifesavers - and that's official! Students studying Stage 2 Health took part in a certified First Aid course today and learned how to properly respond to a variety of emergency situations. The girls and boys had a great time acting out different scenarios and even got some 'hands-on' practice with administering vital skills on CPR mannequins, using the defibrillator machines and bandaging each other up!
21.01.2022 Salisbury East High School’s Class of 2020 get together for one of the last times on their official leavers day.
21.01.2022 Hold the front page! Our students were front and centre in The Advertiser this week! An article about NAPLAN featured Mitch LeCouteur, Myah Shepherd and Jye Marrollo, and an interview with Principal Joe Priolo. The shift of Year 7s into public high schools in 2022 will result in teachers having better insight into the needs of individual students, according to the SA Secondary Principals Association. NAPLAN, which measures literacy and numeracy, is undertaken in Years 3, 5, 7... and 9, meaning fresh results for students in their first year of high school will be available allowing teachers to work out earlier who would benefit from being extended, and those who need extra help. Mr Priolo said analysis of NAPLAN has already helped SEHS to improve its teaching practices across all subjects, an achievement that has been highlighted by the state Education Department. Literacy and numeracy were areas of concern for us, so we put a lot of strategies and interventions in place which have led to an upward trend over the past four years, he said. We made it very clear that literacy and numeracy is everybodys business, that every teacher in every subject has a role to play. All our teachers make sure that reading, comprehension and numeracy are emphasised in their subjects, while specific time is allocated in our middle school timetable for literacy and numeracy. 21.01.2022 Our Year 10 Art and Design students have been busting some gnarly moves in the classroom to create their very own skateboards! After studying examples of urban street art, the skater boys and girls produced their unique designs using decks as canvases. The project not only provided the students with a different medium to use, but they have also been able to combine influences from other artists to come up with their own artwork. No less than 60 different skateboard deigns were created across three classrooms, which they all can't wait to take home and display. Well done everyone!
20.01.2022 Congratulations to SEHS students Grace Akimana, Agnes Peru and Josephine Seraphin for graduating from the Spire Youth Leadership program! The girls worked with their teams for three months on projects to help a number of non-government organisations. On graduation night, held in the Scott Theatre at the University of Adelaide, they presented their results, discussed the issues they had to overcome and spoke brilliantly to the many special invited guests. Well done girls - you did SEHS very proud indeed!

20.01.2022 Please note that, at this stage, our Open Night planned for Wednesday, May 13th, is postponed due to the current restrictions on public gatherings. Discussions are currently underway about an alternative date, or format, for later in Term 2 when families can learn more about the innovative learning opportunities, curriculum and other programs available at SEHS.

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Harvey for winning the 2nd Annual Year 8-10 Boys House Futsal Tournament! The Reds got their hands on the shield after recording a 2-1 victory with a dramatic last-second goal against fellow grand finalists, and last year’s winners, Laurence. Meanwhile, Fenden finished in third spot with a win over Moss in the outdoor competition, which was organised entirely by the Year 12 Specialist Soccer students as part of their final assessment task of 2020. That included creating the rules, organising and coaching teams, publicising the event, setting-up, crowd control, refereeing, scoring, timing and collating statistics. With more than 50 students taking part this year, it proved to be another great success. Well done to everyone who was involved!
17.01.2022 Salisbury East High School said farewell to our Year 12s at a special leavers assembly today ... and here they are, making their grand entrance! Now that timetabled lessons have officially come to an end, only exams, the formal and graduation ceremony remains for The Class of 2020. Good luck everyone!
17.01.2022 Dear Families, We were unable to hold our regular parent/teacher interview evening during Week 1 of this term. We believe that these interviews play a critical role in ensuring that teachers, students and parents are working in partnership to review and improve individual student learning and achievement. In light of this, our Governing Council has endorsed bringing forward our scheduled Week 7 pupil free day to Thursday, May 21st, in Week 4, to provide us with an opportunity... to conduct parent/teacher interviews via phone. If there are any parents/caregivers who are going to find it extremely difficult to have children home on this day then we can provide some supervision at SEHS. If this is the case, please ring the front office and let them know ASAP. On Thursday, May 21st, from 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., teachers will be making phone calls to parents/caregivers who request interviews, which will be 10 minutes in duration. Interview bookings can be made online via Daymap. If you are not yet connected to the Daymap 'Parent Portal' then please find instructions around how to do this on our website via www.sehs.sa.edu.au/daymap Instructions on how to book your parent teacher interviews have also been emailed to all parents/caregivers. An 'interview event' will appear for each child on the home tab of the Parent Portal and this can be clicked to enter interview bookings. Your child's teachers' names and the subjects they teach will be at the top of each column with available time slots to book, and save, shown in green. These can then be cancelled if necessary by clicking on the booked time slot and following the instructions. If you have any issues please contact our friendly front office staff who will help you with the process. I hope that you have all accessed your child's/children's Term 1 school report published through Daymap at the end of last term. You are able to access these on the Parent Portal by clicking on your childs name and selecting the Term 1, 2020, Report PDF. I strongly encourage you to book a time to talk to your child's/children's teachers about their learning and achievement in Term 1 and around how they have settled back into school life after our COVID interruptions. Regards, Principal Joe Priolo

For that reason, teachers Ms Cavanagh and Mr Pretty present a very special version of 'Mornings With SEHS' to provide an insight into what accessing online learning might look like for students - and their families!
17.01.2022 How many rubber bands does it take to explode a watermelon? 483! That was the magic number used to wrap around the fruit during SEHS Science Week before it buckled under all the pressure. Check out our video of the exact moment things got a little messy!
15.01.2022 Salisbury East High School recognised R U OK? Day and raised a fantastic $484 in the process. The national day of action is when Australians are reminded that every day is the time to ask "Are you OK?" if someone in your world is struggling with life's ups and and downs. Our school allowed students to dress in casual clothing (with yellow in particular encouraged!) in exchange for a gold coin donation. Special wrist bands and food, including R U OK? cookies, was also distributed, while our Year 12 musicians entertained the crowds during recess. A big thank you to everyone who participated in this important day and contributed to the R U OK? Foundation!
15.01.2022 Salisbury East High School was featured in a TV news 'exclusive' today! The Minister for Education, John Gardner, paid us a visit to outline the new Year 7 to high school establishment grant funding arrangements. And, covered by 7 News Adelaide, he chatted with our Year 10 students Sharif Sharifullah, Seyyed Ahmadi and Amber Pratt about the prospect of Year 7s becoming part of SEHS from 2022 onwards. High schools throughout SA have had $3 million made available to support the...m in preparing learning environments and facilities for their additional enrolments. We will receive at least $120,000 of that funding and it can be used on anything from painting classrooms and installing lockers, to buying furniture and textbooks. You can hear more about the establishment grants and listen to our students' views on the 7 News Adelaide page: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=608172306477901 See more

12.01.2022 Salisbury East High School has moved up to 10th in South Australia for school sport! The outstanding ranking was revealed when the 2019 results of the Howard Mutton Perpetual Trophy were released this month. SEHS is also the highest ranked school in the Northern Zone by an incredible 122 points. This result is evidence of all the hard work our school community is undertaking to promote and support students to be involved in a plethora of sport. Our students continue to excel... in several areas, especially athletics, basketball and soccer, and the benefits of their involvement in physical activities will hold them in good stead as they transition into their adult lives. Thank you to our students, teachers and everyone else who has helped us make it into the top 10, we are all very proud of this brilliant achievement! See more
12.01.2022 SEHS families are reminded that this Thursday, May 21st, is a student free day. 12.01.2022 Our Australian Refugee Association Youth Ambassadors have delivered speeches to the Adelaide Parks Rotary Club as part of Refugee Week 2020! Grace Akimana, Agnes Peru and Josephine Seraphin wrote their powerful and inspiring words completely unassisted and received very positive feedback from the Rotarians who gathered at the Air Force, Military and Naval Club. Sharing personal experiences of their lives as refugees and settling in Australia, the guests were incredibly impressed with our three students, who represented our school superbly. Well done girls!
12.01.2022 Science Week at Salisbury East High School resulted in innovative solutions to tricky problems, amazing artwork and even an exploding watermelon! This years theme was Deep Blue and students participated in a number of fun activities and challenges based around water. The Year 8s made water carriers for drones, designed compasses, tested out echolocation (a technique used by dolphins to determine the location of objects using reflected sound) and competed in escape rooms, ...while the 9s had a whole year level competition where they had to design the best water filter possible using only simple materials. There were also prizes up for grabs in a couple of whole-school challenges, with an art competition producing some amazing pieces. Year 8 Emily Henriques-De-La-Fuente took top spot with her stunning depiction of an octopus and underwater scene. Meanwhile, students were tasked with guessing how many rubber bands it would take to explode a watermelon and Year 11 Lochie Czapla was closest with 483! Thank you to all the students and staff who got involved in this years Science Week. We hope you had fun, learned something new and had a great time exploring the deep blue! See more

08.01.2022 Dear SEHS Families, In line with the Premier’s instructions in relation to the COVID-19 lock-down, our school will be closed on Thursday, November 19th and Friday the 20th, and there will be pupil-free days on Monday the 23rd and Tuesday the 24th. Only the children of essential workers and vulnerable children will be able to attend school for supervised care on any of these days. If this support is required, then please ring the front office on 8258 2070 or direct message u...s through Facebook so we can ensure adequate staffing is in place in advance. 07.01.2022 Dear Year 12 Students and Families, As you are already aware, due to Health SA and Department for Education directions, we have had to move to an online method to connect our community with the 2020 Year 12 Graduation and Awards Ceremony. As live-streaming is unfortunately not permitted, a full videoed replay of the event on Wednesday, December 2nd, will be made available to view at your convenience via an emailed/texted link as soon as possible (and within 24 hours). Meanw...hile, any parents who do not wish for their student to participate, or be recorded or published online, should contact me ASAP on 8258 2070 so I can make alternative arrangements. Thank you very much for your ongoing understanding and patience in relation to this matter. Kind regards, Sue Shepherd Head of Senior School
07.01.2022 Salisbury East High School wishes to publicly acknowledge Anzac Day, which will be observed on Saturday, April 25th, 2020. The national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations, and the contribution and suffering of all those who have served. Unfortunately, due to current limitations on public gatherings, SEHS will not be able to hold its annual whole-school assembly with guests from the Salisbury RSL as planned next week. However, our staff and students will still mark this important national occasion upon their return to school through various activities in smaller setttings.

Fantastic teamwork was shown throughout the evening and everyone gave it their all, but SEHS was just pipped at the post for a medal and the final results were: Junior Team 3 4th, Junior Team 2 6th, Junior Team 1 10th and Senior Team 1 5th. Congratulations to everyone who participated - you did our school proud!
