16.01.2022 I had a lovely morning at the North Perth Bowls Club for their season opening, meeting the players and watching the first bowl for the season on the green. They have a very strong social membership with over 500 members, and happy to be a new member myself. The Club is open for non members as well, but with a social membership only being $20, what a great way to support the Club while enjoying some great club benefits.... Here some footage of serious bowls competition in action. Emma Cole, Vincent Mayor John Carey Joanne Fotakis Alex Castle

12.01.2022 The annual junk waste collection is currently happening across Vincent. Each year, I hear from residents who absolutely love it and those who really don’t like ...it at all. There is deep sentiment about the tradition of the annual junk verge collection in our community. Some people see it as a great way to find a treasure and bring community together and others find illegal dumping, increasingly messy piles of junk, and less of the good stuff available. The take up of gifting in our community through ‘Buy Nothing’ social media pages, the annual Garage Sale Trail and the like has certainly had an impact on what makes it onto the verge. There is also an important discussion to have about the amount of waste that makes it to landfill, with around 700 tonnes of junk going into the Tamala Park tip each year. We want to have a discussion with our community about the pros and cons and what it means in terms of working towards our ambitious target of zero waste to landfill by 2028. There are a range of options up for discussion and we would love to hear from as many residents as possible on this issue. In speaking to community members about this over the past couple of years, it is something that generates a lot of discussion! A survey is now open and I’d encourage you all to have your say on junk verge collections in Vincent: www.vincent.wa.gov.au//community-feedback-wanted-on/11294 #cityofvincent #junkcollection #haveyoursay
