25.01.2022 This is 1200 "hospital gowns". They represent the 1200 mothers that died in childbirth in 2013. In Fact, the U.S. has one of the highest maternal mortality rate...s of all industrialized countries while also having some of the highest cost maternity care in the world. Obviously something is broken and needs to change. These gowns were lovingly folded by several women today to bring awareness to the increasing maternal mortality rate. 1200 is a staggering number and something is not working within the current system. #improvingbirth #supportILmidwives Edited to add info about The Mother's Right project. (There's lots of references there.) http://www.michellehartney.com/mothers-right And the WHO data: http://www.who.int/gho/maternal_health/countries/usa.pdf
22.01.2022 It's full of nutrients that keep babies alive, so is it really any surprise new mothers are turning to eating placenta too?

02.01.2022 The placenta is composed of healing chemicals. The known ingredients that give the placenta its healing properties are: Gonadotrophin: the precursor to estrogen, progesterone and testosterone Prolactin: promotes lactation Oxytocin: for pain and bonding; produced during breastfeeding to facilitate bonding of mother and infant. In pharmaceutical form this is a very addictive drug because it promotes a feeling of connectedness with others... Thyroid stimulating hormone: boosts energy and helps recovery from stressful events, Cortisone: combats stress and unlocks energy stores Interferon: stimulates the immune system to protect against infections Prostaglandins: anti-inflammatory Hemoglobin: replenishes iron deficiency and anemia, a common postpartum condition Urokinase inhibiting factor and factor XIII: stops bleeding and enhances wound healing Gammaglobulin: immune booster that helps protect against postpartum infections The placenta is full of feel-good hormones that will make a wonderful start to the first few months with your baby!
