10.05.2022 Saw this today. I am sure you can relate

22.03.2022 IS IT BAD TO CRACK MY NECK OR BACK? Cracking your back is a bit of a worry, first of all because you shouldn't need to do it. The reason you feel inclined to cr...ack your back is that it feels stiff and tight. And it's tight for a reason usually because a joint is irritable and the muscles are on duty in protective mode, not giving you enough freedom. Manipulation re-sets the tone of the muscles and this is why you feel a temporary sense of 'release' but it does not last. This is particularly important for younger people, because the other problem about manipulation is that it knocks the joints around, particularly cervical joints (in the neck) creating cumulative micro-trauma that gradually makes the joints less healthy - and ushers in degeneration. The joints gradually get more cobbled up as the pinging of the small fibres of the joint capsule heal with micro-scarring that causes the joints to lose elasticity. As the cobbling increases, the wrenching inevitably becomes more vicious to get that elusive crack. The other thing that happens with repeat manipulation - particularly self-manipulation, where it is much harder to be accurate and localise the manipulative thrust to a specific spinal level - is that the problem level becomes so cobbled up that the levels above and below will pop instead. A surer and more steady - albeit slower approach - is to stretch the muscles out over a longer period. Either that, or see a physiotherapist who will target manual treatment to irritable joints in your neck that are causing the muscles to go on guard. Failing that, you can do yoga which is highly sophisticated at keeping all the muscles of balanced length and strength.
