14.01.2022 You don't have to look too far in Canberra to find local businesses creating a new vision for a circular economy, showing how we can rely on renewables, recycling and reuse to create a closed loop. Last week Salon Canberra director Catherine Carter spoke with three local visionaries - Sophie Fisher from Girls on Bikes ACT, Laurence Kain from Capital Brewing Co. and Sasa Sestic from ONA Coffee about how they're thinking in circles.

14.01.2022 Looking ahead, we're excited to be able to welcome Shannon Battisson as our next guest speaker at Salon Canberra. We're looking forward to hearing more.

09.01.2022 This past week we were privileged to welcome Shannon Battisson, President with The Australian Institute of Architects, ACT Chapter to a very special Salon Canberra lunch, hosted by Bronwyn Blue, Director of BDA Interiors at her beautiful mid-century home in Campbell. Formerly known as the Cleland home, the house was designed by architect Theo Bischoff, who established a practice in Canberra in the early 1950's. The Cleland’s engaged the young architect to design a family hom...e inspired by the owner’s love of Sunset Modern California. The home is characterized by Bischoff’s style of architecture, influenced by simple, rectangular planning with internal courtyards, a limited palette of natural materials, and precise detailing. The mid-century design celebrates the beauty of the surrounding landscape with a large native bush garden set at the base of the Mount Ainslie Nature Reserve. n addition to being a talented architect, Shannon is also a gifted photographer with an eye for colour and design. Take a look at some of her photos published here, including Theo Bishcoff's original drawings. More to follow. #canberramodern #midcenturydesign #midcenturymodern #architect #architecture #saloncanberra #canberra See more

05.01.2022 People often ask who provides the catering, when we're not hosting an event in a local restaurant or cafe. The Lazy Grazer is our go-to for fabulous grazing platters full of fresh, local produce. This was the catering provided at our recent breakfast with David Maxwell. So delicious! We're now looking for an opportunity to order one of their special pavlovas ;-)

05.01.2022 This past week we were thrilled to welcome A/Prof Inger Mewburn aka The Thesis Whisperer as guest speaker at a Salon Canberra lunch attended by some of Canberra's leading women business leaders. Drawn from fields including science, engineering, finance, media, law, architecture and the arts, part of the discussion was about how we can conquer the inaptly named #impostersyndrome so often experienced by creative, high-performing individuals. The conversation provided a reminder that we are capable of more than we expect, to harness perfectionism when it's useful and to embrace mediocrity when it's not. It was a wonderful, thoughtful, empowering discussion. We'll be following this one up in coming months. Photo credit: Pew Pew Studio.
