25.01.2022 Meet Anthony Williams Anthony signed up to the VTEC Mentoring program back in July 2019 because he was bored, wanted to earn some money and was ready to work. He knew he liked working outdoors and he put that to use when he secured a casual job as a maintenance officer at Hetti Perkins Aged Care Home. Anthony was enjoying being back at work. He showed up to all his rostered shifts and his supervisor was pleased with his work. Because of this, he then applied for and ...was successful in securing a full-time position with Ingkerreke Outstations. In this role, he travels with a small crew of teammates to remote communities and outstations to complete various maintenance work. He enjoys his work so much and says this is his dream job. Anthony’s supervisor Kenneth is pleased with Anthony and says he is a hard worker and has learnt to operate a range of different machines to get the varying jobs done. Well done Anthony! 20.01.2022 Meet Tania Phillips Mother of four, Tania Phillips was an Aboriginal Health Practitioner in Child Health, working with children aged between 7 and 14 in Ceduna, South Australia. Unfortunately, this was not an ongoing position for Tania, so she found herself jobless and almost homeless due to lack of housing. She heard of the employment opportunities and housing availabilities in Alice Springs. Even though she only had one family member in Alice, she decided to make t...he move to try and build a good future for her family. This was not an easy task for Tania as she did not receive much financial assistance with relocating, but scraping every penny up, Tania was able to make the move to Alice Springs. Once in Alice, Tania didn’t have much luck finding employment until she commenced into the VTEC program with Saltbush Employment Services. Her Mentor referred her for positions and encouraged her to stay positive. With Tania’s work background and good work ethic, she was sure to secure something! Then in February, Tania’s life changed as she commenced employment with Disability Advocacy Service as Administration Peer Support. Tania’s employer has been extremely supportive which has allowed her to develop new skills and utilise her existing skills. Two months after commencing employment, Tania enrolled into a Cert IV in Training and Assessment and has passed every unit. She has found some of the modules challenging, especially her presentations (one being a 3-hour presentation) which she had to facilitate. This has not deterred Tania though. Through sheer determination and a fighting spirit to smash her goals, she reached out and received assistance from health providers in the area to complete one of her presentations. Tania has now completed her 26 weeks with VTEC. The team at Saltbush are so proud and wish her all the best in her future endeavours. Thank you, Tania, for being such a deadly role model. Keep smashing those goals!
