25.01.2022 With stories abounding of young people dismissing calls to avoid groups or practice social distancing because they think the coronavirus only affects the elderl...y, a new report issued by the CDC yesterday about young people making up a big portion of virus-related hospitalizations is important to share widely. According to the CDC, of the first 2,500 cases in the US, nearly 40% of patients sick enough to be hospitalized were between 20 and 54 years old. I think everyone should be paying attention to this, said Stephen S. Morse, a professor of epidemiology at Columbia University. It’s not just going to be the elderly. There will be people age 20 and up. They do have to be careful, even if they think that they’re young and healthy. Dr. Christopher Carlsten of University of British Columbia further observed that "if that many younger people are being hospitalized, that means that there are a lot of young people in the community that are walking around with the infection. It's essential that people of all ages take steps to help stop the spread of the rapidly expanding pandemic asserted Dr. Deborah Birx of the State Department. Even for those who don't develop severe disease, she said in a briefing yesterday, "you have the potential then to spread it to someone who does have a condition that none of us knew about, and cause them to have a disastrous outcome." 22.01.2022 How to keep the kids entertained when we are socially isolating to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. 1. Ensure that you have a daily routine. 2. Kids may need to engage with school work - support this and work out when and how to approach this each day. 3. Have art/craft supplies on hand for creativity. 4. Be ready with novel games and activities to keep things interesting.... 5. Movies are great - but monitor screen time. 6. Time to talk and interact as a family. 7. Outdoor time is important. Sunshine and fresh air. 8. Have some interesting books on hand. 9. Review handwashing and hygiene practices. 10. Create goals - short term (for now) and longer term (for after the social isolation period) 11. Cooking together 12. Think about growth mindset possibilities https://www.usatoday.com//indoor-activities-kee/645132000/

19.01.2022 I love this article for parents struggling right now. There are no clear rules about juggling teaching your kids at home with demanding work commitments. Not to mention trying to keep everyone sane while the kids’ regular activities and socialising opportunities with friends are gone and they feel stuck at home. It is unfamiliar territory for everyone. Hang in there, support each other and be kind to yourself. Kylie Louise I read your post to mums today too- very encouraging!

19.01.2022 How do you ask someone if they are ok? And what do you do if they say they're not? This simple guide can help. Find more tips at www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

17.01.2022 Thanks for sharing this Dr Rhiarne Psychologist & The Family Wellbeing Hub. A great resource for helping kids to process information and remain calm about the current situation. Less is best- keep it simple, refrain from exposing them to excessive news, give them clear information about hand washing/hygiene and reassure them.

17.01.2022 My heart was singing when I walked into Mega Cheer last night and saw a huge gratitude wall for the girls to write on, as well as doing their wool activity for friendships and positive strengths!! How great to see a gym that not only has excellent standards in their sport, but a firm commitment to the wellbeing of their young athletes. Keep up the amazing work Mega! You are an inspiration!! 14.01.2022 One of the current questions many parents are asking is, "How do I keep my kids safe online while we are managing online learning?" Here is a great article with practical suggestions for parents and families. COVID-19: an online safety kit for parents and carers https://www.esafety.gov.au//covid-19-online-safety-kit-par

14.01.2022 Today many of my clients have expressed overwhelming fear, doubt and anxiety because of the uncertainty we are all faced with currently. We can reduce the grip of fear and anxiety by focussing on the positives we experience. Express gratitude. Make meaningful and positive connections (safely). Look after yourself. Here is a really nice tool to help: "Positivity Project". http://www4.parinc.com//dai/Positivity_Daily_Checklist.pdf

14.01.2022 Do you ever feel like you just want your kids to be a little kinder to each other and stop the niggles? #Biglifejournal has some great resources and ideas to help.

11.01.2022 Salt Psychology COVID 19 update: I wanted to reassure you that I am still open for clinic on Saturdays. In consideration of the current situation with COVID-19, I have decided where possible to offer telehealth services to clients. Telehealth allows psychological services to be delivered online so we will still be face-to-face but via the computer screen. If you would like to move toward this type of service provision for the current period, please let me know. To assist with... individuals and families struggling financially due to COVID-19 circumstances, telehealth services will be bulk-billed at this stage for individuals with a MHCP. Beyond the telehealth provision, please be assured that regular cleaning of the office, hand sanitizing and social distancing procedures are all in place. Could I please also request that any person with cold/flu like symptoms contact me and we can discuss rescheduling your appointment or making telehealth arrangements. I am thinking of all of my clients at this time and trust you are all safe and well. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any stage. See more

08.01.2022 Let's keep a positive attitude, managing the things we can control (doing our best to play our part proactively); and accept/adapt to/work with the things we can't.

07.01.2022 A great message... thanks for sharing Dr Rhiarne Psychologist & The Family Wellbeing Hub. Happy Sunday afternoon.

07.01.2022 For parents of kids at home in lockdown: It can be tough to keep the kids engaged and come up with interesting ideas of what to do each day.
