25.01.2022 DOGS DOGS DOGS Okayyyy now that I have your attention A common question asked is whether or not essential oils are harmful toward dogs and other household pets. In short, the answer isn’t a simple yes or no. In their concentrated form (100% pure), essential oils can absolutely be dangerous for pets if they inhale close range or have oil on their coats (self grooming = ingestion). While working in the veterinary industry, I heard my fair share of home remedies used for ti...ck and flea prevention including the use of tea tree oil, tumeric, coconut oil.. the list goes on. Topically applying essential oils directly on your pet is not ideal without direct veterinary advice. However the most common question surrounds diffusing oils within your home. As a dog owner myself and a lover of burning oils, I am always considerate of the fact that our dogs have a much much much greater sense of smell than we do, so what may smell nice to us, could be very overwhelming for our furry friends. If you’re diffusing oils, ensure they’re diluted and the diffuser is placed in a well ventilated, open area. Each essential oil varies on concentration levels that are deemed ‘pet safe’ for exposure so researching may help to gain clarity around what to diffuse and what not to. See more
