25.01.2022 The last day of his 30s.... a fun surf with mates, hosting a camping weekend on our 7 acre block. Having a fire pit to cook peri peri flat chicken on , and a bonfire to share it around with friends and family. Hope we kick off your Roaring Forties with another epic day!! Love you Base!! #frother

25.01.2022 What a weekend. Will be reliving this one in my memory for a long time. There is nothing better than a chic weekend of surf, laughter, rainbows and quokkas! What a rad group of women!!! Feeling so filled up and inspired!

25.01.2022 Off to work! !! #saltandbush

25.01.2022 We have our daily cups of tea with a couple Western Yellow Robins entertaining us. No TV and few friends close by in the neighbourhood means nature is our main source of entertainment and it never gets old. Something new amazes us every single day. Its nourishment for the soul... get outside and observe!

24.01.2022 Sneaky Ladies Surf Weekend Away!!! Happy Birthday Em! So glad you brought us all together! Xx

24.01.2022 Having our peaceful morning cup of tea and then a battle occurred above our heads... the largest bird in Australia- Wedgetail Eagle did something to upset our local Magpie family. Those Maggies were not going to let it go... they made that Wedgie work for what was in his talons ( which looked like nest material??). Either way it is 100% why we dont own a TV and mainly live outside!!

23.01.2022 @nannasfornativeforests standing up for our forests today in Mandurah at the Celebrate Seniors Expo! Great to see the movement building! Thx Nannas! WA Forest Alliance

23.01.2022 Just a bit of what we all need... Smiley Quokka Cuteness! Hope this brightens your day! Taken by my gorgeous friend working on the most epic exciting business Indian Ocean Sea Vegetables !! Check it out!

23.01.2022 Celebrating our First Salt and Bush Eco Tours done and dusted ! A beautiful orchid walk with 15 species spotted! A few showers but no rain on our parade! It felt great to get our first tour under our belts!!! Now just to get a few more booked in!

22.01.2022 Its Monday... have a giggle at a knock knee Spoonie. Such goofs. Dr. Suess would have be inspired by this guy. #yellowbilledspoonbill #spoonbill

22.01.2022 We are pretty certain that these two are twins! Critically endangered Western Ringtail Possum twins... right in our back yard! We look forward to continually enhancing our block for habitat, food and water for native wildlife!!! #landforwidlife

22.01.2022 The bonus when all of Western Australia goes North to escape winter.... we stay South and get waves for days!

22.01.2022 Happy Birthday’s @mark_chalwell and @shaechalwell ! Thanks for the fun night, yummy food and such beautiful spot too! xx

21.01.2022 Date night over the weekend. We left our place to find new bush to explore in the nearby National Park. Beautiful light, and not a soul around but us and the birds.

21.01.2022 When a door closes... you gotta look for the window that opens! Tomorrow we start a new chapter of this adventure and we are both excited but nervous !! Stay tuned as we launch tomorrow!

21.01.2022 Oh wildflower season... you have my !! Spiders, Donkeys, Rabbits, Cowslips, Birds, and Fairies oh my! Weve been scouting for @saltandbushecotours and been finding gold!!

21.01.2022 Empty peelers and single fin love with just us out. Feeling so lucky to get salty and fill up in the deep blue.

20.01.2022 Swell picked up and cleaned up just on sunset! Got an empty session we just had to share it with one other guy and a pod of dolphins surfing and pulling airs! The first sighting of their fins took us by surprise. ! #sogoodtogetsalty

20.01.2022 Moments in between the rain to check out the view from the top of our block. We can just see the Pelicans and Swans from up here.

19.01.2022 Bit by bit turning this place into a home...

18.01.2022 Meet the new addition to our Sailing Hobie fleet. It’s a one seater Adventure Islander and we need to name it! We have two tandems- ‘Margie’ in the background and ‘Selma Kayak’ not pictured here - but she is red and sexy. This one is our lead guide Kayak and it’s as fast as anything!! Give us your Name suggestions???

17.01.2022 When the sunset makes you pinch yourself to make sure that this is real and not just you imagining a picture perfect sunset dropping into the Indian Ocean. It never gets old #Westisbest !

17.01.2022 Such flowers of imagination; I am now in raptures when I think on them; in searching to come suddenly on such gems and be surrounded by them, makes you for a time think you are in a fairyland - Georgiana Molloy 1840 . We feel the same way... it is a fairyland around our place! !

17.01.2022 There is nothing quite like catching up with mates you havent seen in ages around a campfire on a clear beautiful evening!! #grateful #campfire #mates

17.01.2022 Isnt he splendid!! Yes he is a Splendid Fairy Wren and did you know he changes feather colour from dull brown to bright blue to impress the ladies. But it also comes at a cost... these blue dudes cant hide as well from predators and scientists have shown they are more stealth and less risky when they are Blue. Hence there is much joy when you can actually get a crisp clear photo of these fellas. #fairywren #splendid #didyouknow #nature

16.01.2022 How is the colour?! Truly mesmerising. Gompholobium confertum - a gorgeous pea in our local bush. Wildflower season keeps on giving!

16.01.2022 We went to see the sunset... we got these spectacular views of a front rolling in instead. #nature

15.01.2022 Oh Spoonie!! The more I see them the more they become my favourite bird. I may have to write a Spoonbill story for kids inspired by Dr.Suess! #bucketlist #spoonbill #kidsbook #dr.Seussbird

14.01.2022 What date night looks like when you own 7 acres and you are at the end of winter... We are praying the summer will be kind to us. All the wood along the firebreak from last year is dry as a bone and full of oils. #hothothot #reducetheload #landlubbers #ohdear #gettingready #summer

14.01.2022 Another great 40th this weekend! Happy Birthday Nic Bowen-Sant ! So stoked to celebrate with you Nic!! Well done Julia Laugczems on the epic surprise and beautiful set up!!

13.01.2022 -> Guided Nature, Kayak and Sailing tours located only 1.5 hours from Perth or 2 hours from Margaret River. Go to www.saltandbush.com.au to check out our tours. Stay in the Loop over at SaltandBush Our passion is the natural world and we get so much joy from helping people to connect to and appreciate nature! Our new business is all about shining a light on this beautiful biodiversity hotspot of South Western Australia and the ...remaining bushland of the Swan Coastal Plain. But we want to do more than just run nature tours. Our business has been set up along side our new Not-for-Profit organisation Swanlandia Ecology Education. Each tour that we run in our business helps to us to develop and run Swanlandia programs and events. We have been busy little bees! We have completed the NEIS business program and put together a comprehensive business plan for Salt and Bush Eco Tours. We have become a Sustainable Tourism Accredited Business and we are now licenced to work in WAs National Parks. We have added to our Hobie Sailing Kayak fleet with a new single guide kayak, so we can now take out 4 people on tours in our two tandem kayaks Margie and Selma! We are pretty excited to release this little dream out into the world. As a small business getting our name out there is the first hurdle. So Please Spread the Word - 25 mins South of Mandurah. Come and explore the natural world with us! x Base and Jamie www.saltandbush.com.au

12.01.2022 Exploring rivers on Mandurah’s doorstep but feeling like we are miles and miles away!

12.01.2022 Sundays spent exploring are the best kind of Sundays! A Kayak mission on low tide to see what’s possible. #serpentineriver

12.01.2022 3 hours, 25km! Wind behind us the whole way! Dolphin encounters and migratory bird spotting! Was a great trip!!

11.01.2022 Happy Wrensday! This little guy is shaking it off ready for the rest of the week! #splendidfairywren #visitmandurah #bluewren

11.01.2022 Our little neighbour... total and utter cuteness. There is something so amazing about having wild Kangaroos around our property. Many people see them as pests... but to me these are the most spectacularly adapted animals to this landscape. (I think this is also every non-Australians dream Roos in your backyard). #nativewildlife

10.01.2022 With endless opportunities to keep exploring. We feel so grateful to live where we do. #westernaustralia #visitmandurah #keepexploring Salt and Bush Eco Tours #wanderoutyonder #peelregion

10.01.2022 Happy 40th to my salty bush man! Base you always bring joy and laughter to everyone around you. You have been my rock and adventure partner through it all. As you turn the corner of the next decade I have no doubt that we will keep adventuring and living life to the fullest. Thank you for this amazing life weve created and being my best mate through it all. Happy Birthday Base!

09.01.2022 Someone commented to us that we are into so many different things... surfing, sailing, diving, kayaking, the ocean, nature, geology, birds, flowers, animals, fungi, citizen science... the list goes on. What can we say? We love it all. Finding balance is the trick. But when you love it all equally you just have to dive into each topic as much as you can! From the words of our hero People often say that Im curious about too many things at once... But can you really forbid a man ( or woman *) from harbouring a desire to know and embrace everything that surrounds him? - Alexander Von Humboldt #becurious

08.01.2022 Tonight we took part in The Danjoo Koorliny, Walking Together, Social Impact Project and Festival which is designed and led by Aboriginal leaders to help us all walk together towards 2029 (200 years of colonisation in Perth) and beyond. It was a virtual summit and runs all day tomorrow too. Join in. Lets walk together, get inspired and create a better, more inclusive and connected world. The pelican is the totem animal of where the event is taking place. And what a powerful totem it is. #danjookoorliny2020 #walkingtogether

07.01.2022 Soaking in the views of Yalgorup lakes. Such a beautiful spot and the recovery after the 2016 Yarloop fires is quite amazing to witness.

06.01.2022 Base and I spent Sunday exploring a trail in Yalgorup National Park... it was beautiful and breathtaking. A Perfect place to run guided nature walks. As we researched the area once we were home, we learnt of the ludicrous proposal to create a 29 ha limestone and sand quarry right here where this photo was taken of densely packed grass trees and ancient Tuart trees. The only difference between this and National Park is a wire fence. ... why??? This is gut wrenching that our government could give possibly give the green light (the EPA process is in action) to a foreign owned company to mine sand and limestone and use our National Park road as the haul road. For the love of planet Earth how the hell can this be happening?!?! #nothingissafe #nationalpark #westernaustralia #greed

06.01.2022 Our Sailing Yak Tours might just be our favourite tour. Our Hobie Tandem Islander kayaks glide silently across the water and you feel like youre flying ( they are super stable too). Not to mention Dolphins seem to love bow riding on them ! With 3 kayaks the sailing races are on! Summer is going to be fun! Can we call this work? Nah! SaltandBush Eco Tours #hobiesailing #visitmandurah #mandurah #peelharveyestuary

05.01.2022 How can this brightness not pick you up in the morning? Morning walk with a cup of tea and all the Cowslips are out in full force. Saw 30 in one small section of the property!!! Holy moly. #orchids #westernaustralia

05.01.2022 Walking our block and to our delight we find this beautiful bee orchid. The next month of wildflower season is going to be amazing !!

05.01.2022 A bit of salty solace! Thank goodness for a beach protected from the Southerly wind!

05.01.2022 An insects worst nightmare . A plant that they are drawn to for the sweet smelling nectar or glistening liquid in a dry environment... then they get stuck in the sticky glue as the leaves wrap around the insect so it cant get away! Then enzymes slowly digest and devour them!! Drosera porrecta... species number 3 of killer carnivorous plants found on our block! I Love these killer plants... in fact Darwin thought the same calling Carnivorous plants The most wonderful plants in the world. #fascinating ... more killer plant tales include how carnivorous plants lure and kill some insects, while they protect the insects that pollinate them! #brilliance #botany #killerplants #learnmore @ Salt and Bush Eco Tours

05.01.2022 Forecast was a stormy weekend... but we are in West Aus and the magic weather decided to turn it on for us. but now the storm is setting in!! love this place! #wadjemup @ Wadjemup

04.01.2022 We are now in the Noongar Season Djilba August - September. Djilba season is a time to look for the yellow and cream flowers starting on mass. Djilba is a transitional time of the year, with some very cold and clear days combining with warmer, rainy and windy days mixing with the occasional sunny day or two. We start to see and hear the first of the newborns of Roos - Yongar, Possums- Koomal and Emus - Waitj with their proud parents out and about providing them with food, ...guiding them through foraging tasks and protecting their family units from much bigger animals, including us. The woodland birds are still nest bound, hence the swooping protective behaviour of the koolbardi (magpie), djidi djidi (willy wag tails) and chuck-a-luck (wattle birds). So proud to be on Gnaala Karla Boodja country.

04.01.2022 Calm where we are but not out there. Beautiful twilight sky and cool crisp air... I think lightning the fire and cooking a soup is on the cards.

03.01.2022 Sometimes the natural world looks even more spectacular at night. This ancient Balga was absolutely mesmerising in the moon light. We are soon launching nocturnal tours to discover the nights amazing secrets. @saltandbushecotours #saltandbush

03.01.2022 Just a few black swans hanging around in the Estuary.

02.01.2022 To say we miss our Expedition Naturalist jobs is an understatement. Traveling the world, learning about amazing ecosystems and sharing this with people who are interested in exploring and learning about nature. Dream job for real. What do you do when your job and plans get turned upside down? Thanks 2020. Well we have been dreaming and scheming for the last couple of months and we are soon to launch our new venture! We are getting pretty pumped to share what we have planned. Stay tuned...

01.01.2022 Living on a estuary and wetland of international importance means we get the privilege of having shorebirds visit each summer from as far as Siberia and Alaska. We have taken on doing citizen science bird surveys to document the birds that visit the Peel all the way from the Arctic circle. We’ve had the privilege to see them up in the Arctic last year, and now they are in our backyard! These migratory birds are facing the biggest decline out of any birds in the world. Knowing how many visit our wetlands is critical for monitoring their conservation. #citizenscience #birdlife #birdlifewa #shorebird2020 #peelharvey #getoutthere

01.01.2022 When traveling has been our fulltime gig for the past 5 years, staying in one place has been an exciting adventure for us. We have given ourselves the task to learn about this amazing place we call home in fine detail that means we have been researching, exploring, and studying this ecosystem until late hours of the night...and we have been loving it. The more we learn about nature in detail, the more amazed we are. Never stop learning and getting out there to explore what is around you, even in your backyard. There is always more to learn. #naturalists4life #learn #getoutside #explore
