21.01.2022 William Cooper was an Aboriginal Christian leader from the early twentieth century who worked tirelessly for the rights of his people. One of his lasting legacies is what we today celebrate as NAIDOC Week a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and an opportunity for us to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society. "May our footsteps, on these ancient lands, remind us of cr...eation and connectedness, in our search for truth. May the Gum Tree, from its roots to its branches, remind us to dig deep and reach high, in our action for justice. May the Eagle, who soars in the sky, remind us of the power, in our call for love. May the expanse of the lands and seas, of the sky and stars, remind us of God’s timing in our faith in hope. May the Holy three, Creator Spirit, Lord God, Papa Jesus, remind us of community. So with grace, mercy, and peace, go in truth, justice, love, and hope". Amen See more

19.01.2022 Happy Sunday! This beautiful illustration by the wonderful May Gibbs for a public health poster was part of a government campaign in New South Wales to limit the spread of the deadly Spanish flu pandemic of 1918-19. At the time, wearing face masks in public places was compulsory, schools were closed and many public activities were banned or restricted. Illustrator and author May Gibbs was one of the most popular childrens writers of the time. She used familiar characters from her childrens books to encourage readers, especially children, to wear masks and encourage social distancing to reduce the spread of the deadly infection. You might want to use this illustration in your own community x
