24.01.2022 For six years, Salvo John Cartwright has been traveling through rural communities devastated by a decade of drought and floods. Every week, he visits farmers to lend a listening ear and to provide practical and material support in the form of food vouchers or groceries. For local farmer Leanne, the support John provides is invaluable. ... The bags of food he brings are amazing, and so is actually getting a visit from someone and just being able to talk. Want to make sure John can continue to reach out to our farmers in need? We need your help! Register for a Soup Challenge and become a Souperhero today: www.souperhero.org.au

20.01.2022 This week Major Brendan Nottle proved to us that not all heroes wear capes! On Monday, Brendan arrived at Parliament House in Canberra after a gruelling 40 day walk from Melbourne's 614 community service. Brendan was joined by more than 100 supporters, including Government ministers and Salvation Army leaders, to call for a national, nonpartisan strategy to address homelessness.... For Brendan, the walk was an opportunity to hear from and give voice to Australians experiencing homelessness. More must be done in early intervention, prevention and provision of support services to help the most vulnerable members of our community. A big thank you to everyone who has supported Brendans journey by signing the petition, donating, completing a virtual walk and sharing positive messages.

12.01.2022 Shirley was a true Hero For Hope and touched many people's lives through both her volunteering and fundraising. We recently received a donation to the Shirley Mort legacy campaign from Lyn, who shared this beautiful message with us: "A trip into the city was a fun day out with my mum and younger sister in tow, it didn't happen very often. Mum would look across and seek out Shirley on the bridge, Shirley would always be there no matter the weather, then mum would put a few coi...ns into our hands to pop into the tin. Most often Shirley would give us a sticker. Mum would always thank Shirley for giving up her time and Shirley would smile back at all of us, she genuinely enjoyed the interaction and it was a highlight, at the beginning of our day. After our mum passed, tears now, I carried on this tradition with my own children, stop and donate to Shirley's Salvos tin. We all shed tears when we heard of Shirley's passing. So this donation is definitely in memory of them both" - Lyn If you'd like to donate in honour of Shirley, please visit: http://bit.ly/2I2eSJz
