25.01.2022 Want to give back this Christmas? A food or gift drive is a simple way to share the festive spirit with someone doing it tough As many Australians will str...uggle to put a meal on the table and gifts under the tree this year, your help is so appreciated. 20.01.2022 Don’t throw out your empty plastic bottle or aluminium cans. Keep them, store them and recycle them - they can change lives! We’ve teamed up with myTOMR...A Australia so you can help us help Australians in need by donating your 10c refund. Every single bottle counts. To help put things in perspective, 60 drink containers help us provide a hygiene kit to someone in need and 80 would help us pay for a ticket on public transport to get someone unemployed to a job interview. 150 used bottles or cans provide a toiletry pack for someone fleeing domestic violence. 14.01.2022 Bushfire recovery has been an ongoing journey that, for many, has only just begun. Latest updates: https://fal.cn/3bcvG Responding to the needs of people impact...ed by disaster is a long-term commitment that requires different approaches at different phases of recovery. #TheSalvationArmy #SalvosBushfireRecovery

11.01.2022 For those just beginning their recovery journey and those who are further along, our Bushfire Recovery Teams are there to provide support based on individual ne...eds through financial assistance, outreach and financial counselling: https://fal.cn/3b56t The community of Wytaliba was devastated by the fire-storm and received plenty of media attention in the weeks after the disaster, but long-term recovery has been challenging. With poor phone service and many living off-grid, our teams decided it was best to set out in the mobile recovery Winnebago to spend a week with Wytaliba’s residents. My impression was that the community has suffered a great loss, says assessor, Leah. It’s really real once you’re there and see them face-to-face and when you go to people’s properties. Spending time in the community meant that our recovery team was able to put together documents collected, photos taken and any further information gathered to process assessments for financial grants. Leah says they recently received a call from a grateful Wytaliba resident who had received a Stage 2 grant. He was just so appreciative and saying how much it helped in their rebuild process. It gives them an opportunity to finally start getting things cleared and rebuilt so they can settle. #TheSalvationArmy #SalvosBushfireRecovery

08.01.2022 #NAIDOC2020 - Sharing essential stories through art Beginning Sunday, National NAIDOC Week 2020 is an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate the rich... history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing living cultures on the planet. Encouraging creativity and the sharing of stories around country, community and culture is the focus of a dedicated creative art space at The Salvation Army Doorways Hub in Katherine, 270km south of Darwin. Artist Aunty Janet Dreamer said she has been painting since she was in her teens, but it is only through the access to supplies the hub offers that she has been able to start again. "I love to paint birds and kangaroos, anything from the bush, and especially if it's good tucker," she said. To read more about the art hub, go to: https://fal.cn/3boD4 #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOCWeek2020
