25.01.2022 Weve been doing community hampers and finding that theres a lot of vulnerable people in the community. So we thought it would be great to be able to help the...m with supplying a mask as well. - Debbie Bartlett, The Salvation Army Upper Blue Mountains. Throughout Australia, Salvos and our supporters have stepped up to help in many different areas throughout the COVID-19 crisis to support Australians in need. In the New South Wales Blue Mountains, the local Salvos are sewing masks for vulnerable members of their own community, as well as those in Melbourne where masks are mandatory. Thank you to our amazing teams and volunteers for all you're doing to support your communities through this crisis. #TheSalvationArmy #Masks
25.01.2022 Just like I have today, I’m encouraging you to get behind the Salvos because the need never ends. Whether its COVID or out of COVID, whatever time it is, the S...alvos are always there helping those in need. The Hon Scott Morrison (ScoMo) MP, Prime Minister of Australia, is urging Australians to support this year’s Red Shield Appeal. 24.01.2022 Bushfire Recovery Seven months on from the Black Summer bushfires, our local teams are still working in affected communities to help individuals, families and... communities recover. Many members of the public have been wondering why all funds arent distributed immediately to those affected. Weve been responding to disasters since 1887 and have learned a lot over that time about what true recovery looks like. One thing all crises have in common is the trail of destruction that follows, which means years of working to bring about restoration. We know from experience that peoples needs change over time. For example, immediately after the fires, peoples needs were accommodation, food or fuel, but as time has progressed and people are looking to the next stage of recovery, the costs are often more substantial. Those rebuilding homes may be faced with hold ups such as insurance claims, drafting plans, applying for permits, contracting builders and clearing rubble from their land. Those living in rental properties destroyed by fires must find new accommodation in communities suffering multiple property losses. This phase of longer-term recovery and rebuilding is the most expensive and where our grants are available for people to access. As of 16 June 2020, The Salvation Army has distributed $22 million in direct financial assistance to support more than 11,500 Australians. If you or someone you need is seeking support after being affected by the bushfires, please contact our Bushfire Recovery team on [email protected] or 1300 662 217. 23.01.2022 An opportunity for all people to continue to support the Salvos.
23.01.2022 Our Mobile Bushfire Recovery Teams are on the move again! During the onset of COVID-19 and in line with state and territory restrictions, we were able to ass...ist people over the phone and online. But as restrictions begin to ease, our mobile teams are now in the NSW South Coast. Our Mobile Bushfire Recovery Teams support with financial relief as well as financial counselling, assess grant applications, and provide personal support. For more information, including locations, dates and times to connect with our Mobile Bushfire Recovery Team, go to: http://ow.ly/VP7N50Ag8Gn If you, or someone you know, were impacted by the 2019-2020 bushfires, you can continue to call us on 1300 662 217 or email [email protected]
22.01.2022 Research conducted for our annual Red Shield Appeal has found that with the extreme pressures of housing costs at an unprecedented high, those on government sup...port payments are left with $11 a day, and those on minimum wage only $4 a day, after paying for housing. This has meant that our local teams have seen a six-fold increase in people on wages presenting to our services for help. Journalist, TV and radio presenter Joe Hildebrand attempted to live a day in his life with just $20 (the amount someone on minimum wage, government assistance and a family up to three kids is left with after paying for their housing costs. You can check that out in our Facebook stories). It’s astonishing to think that in a country like Australia a family could have as little as $20 a day to live on after the cost of putting a roof over their head yet this is exactly what countless families struggle to survive on. The good news is that the Salvos are out there making those choices easier so please choose to help them if you can, Joe said. To learn more about what our Red Shield Appeal research uncovered about the impact of COVID-19 on Australians and the most vulnerable in our communities, go to: https://fal.cn/3fDeK #TheSalvationArmy #RedShieldAppeal #LeaveNoOneInNeed See more
21.01.2022 Lifting the lid on homelessness As Homelessness Week for 2020 comes to an end, our fight to eradicate street and rough sleeping continues. Through connection,... linkages, referrals, assertive outreach support, case management, and specialised programs, The Salvation Army is the largest provider of homelessness services in Australia. Our National Homelessness Research Project found: 2 in 5 respondents with kids became homeless because of family violence. One in six of all respondents became homeless because they couldnt afford to pay rent. More than one-quarter of all respondents were deprived of basic living items (food, water & healthcare). 2 in 5 respondents with kids had nowhere stable to live & were forced to move from place to place. Nobody should be without a safe, affordable and secure home. To learn more and help us end homelessness, go to: http://ow.ly/T8fj50ASYFv
21.01.2022 Set up in Kiah for bushfire recovery today. So great to be serving such an awesome community.
21.01.2022 It was really important for us to balance on one hand, the success that we had to maintain our business and to keep us going into the future, but on the other ...hand to look after the people greatest in need. When the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis hit in March, distillery owner Tim Page-Walker lost the majority of his business due to the cancelation of major events and hospitality venues. Within four days, he quickly pivoted his offering to begin producing and bottling hand sanitiser. As a Salvos supporter, Tim began donating bottles to his local Salvos so the teams could safely continue to help those in need. Eventually, the santisier was provided to Salvos right across the country. Its because of people like Tim that our teams across the country can continue to help communities during these challenging times. Thank you. #TheSalvationArmy #Salvos #Sanitiser #CovidVictoria

18.01.2022 #NAIDOC2020 - Sharing essential stories through art Beginning Sunday, National NAIDOC Week 2020 is an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate the rich... history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing living cultures on the planet. Encouraging creativity and the sharing of stories around country, community and culture is the focus of a dedicated creative art space at The Salvation Army Doorways Hub in Katherine, 270km south of Darwin. Artist Aunty Janet Dreamer said she has been painting since she was in her teens, but it is only through the access to supplies the hub offers that she has been able to start again. "I love to paint birds and kangaroos, anything from the bush, and especially if it's good tucker," she said. To read more about the art hub, go to: https://fal.cn/3boD4 #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOCWeek2020
17.01.2022 Giving back is the best thing to do, says celebrity chef Manu Feildel Earlier this month, Manu Feildel served up a special two course meal at his local Sa...lvos in Maroubra, New South Wales, to honour a group of volunteers who have been working tirelessly during COVID-19 supporting those in need. The six unsuspecting guests had no idea that popular French chef Manu Feildel had not only prepared a special home cooked meal, but that hed be plating and serving it to them! Food is nice when its given from your heart to someone elses heart, says Manu. What better way to express love and appreciation for these deserving guests than with a specially prepared meal. And the guests were certainly impressed, with one scoring his meal a perfect score - 10/10! To read more, go to http://ow.ly/LF7050ACwb1

16.01.2022 As renewed stage 3 lockdown measures come into place in Victoria, we pray for all those effected by COVID-19: for the police, The Salvation Army Emergency Servi...ces (SAES) and The Salvation Army teams offering welfare and community support. The Salvation Army was asked to help with the coordination of support in the towers. The teams have extensive experience and pre-existing support relationships with the residents, so The Salvation Army teams were able to coordinate services and act quickly. May God bless all their efforts See more

Here is Brett sharing his story with Woolworths S.T.A.N.D ambassador Adam Goodes. Brett lost everything in the fires and has been assisted by grants from our local teams. 14.01.2022 As our response to the bushfires continues, this week we announced that weve entered a new initiative with the NSW Government (Resilience NSW) & Minderoo Found...ation to provide temporary housing to bushfire affected families. The temporary housing pods feature built-in electricity, water & sewer systems, allowing families to stay on their properties whilst they rebuild their homes, and lives, after the fires. We are providing ongoing support for thousands including the residents of 2,475 houses destroyed. We know those who lost their homes will face a particularly hard road to recovery and that having the stability of a Recovery Pod will make the journey more manageable, says The Salvation Armys Secretary for Mission, Lieutenant Colonel Lyn Edge. If you or someone you know were impacted by the 2019-2020 bushfires, you can continue to call us on 1300 662 217 or email [email protected] You can see images of one of the pods below To learn more, go to: http://ow.ly/m0SV50Ahf4Y

13.01.2022 Your generosity this Fathers Day will help us support Australians facing hardship The fallout of the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis means our services are s...eeing an even greater demand than ever before, so we are extremely grateful to be the national charity partner for the MYER Community Fund. Round up your purchase to the nearest dollar at MYER stores* and youll be making a difference to the lives of so many. Funds raised will go towards helping: Australians experiencing family violence Providing emergency and financial relief Supporting people experiencing homelessness 2020 has been a tough year, and every generous donation counts. 12.01.2022 "My personal motivation would just be to show people that theyre loved, that they are valued, that they're worth it. They dont have to be embarrassed about as...king for help. Instead we want to open our arms up and say 'Youre welcome here'". - Hayley Grigg, Rockdale Salvos. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit earlier this year, the Salvos in Rockdale, NSW, started up their Food Market to allow members of the community to access low-cost groceries. Not only does it offer essential items like milk, cereal, canned goods, farm eggs, toilet paper hygiene and household items, but there are also toys for kids. One mum was able to stop in and shop for her kids, something she hasnt been able to do for a while. Theres also a financial counsellor available for those who want to take control of their finances. We really felt that whilst we do have food hampers for people in desperate need, to have this service here for our community where they can come, feel like theyre still purchasing and contributing and making ends meet, but to allow them to be able to manage their finances in a better way, says Auxiliary Lieutenant Matt Cairns, Rockdale Corps Officer. Thank you to our local teams and volunteers for all that they are doing to support those in need through this crisis
12.01.2022 Congratulations Aux Lt David and the Fairfield team.

08.01.2022 Don’t throw out your empty plastic bottle or aluminium cans. Keep them, store them and recycle them - they can change lives! We’ve teamed up with myTOMR...A Australia so you can help us help Australians in need by donating your 10c refund. Every single bottle counts. To help put things in perspective, 60 drink containers help us provide a hygiene kit to someone in need and 80 would help us pay for a ticket on public transport to get someone unemployed to a job interview. 150 used bottles or cans provide a toiletry pack for someone fleeing domestic violence. 05.01.2022 The Salvation Army not only saved my life, but the life of four children who were given the chance to have a really good, happy childhood. - Rosemary. Rosem...ary is passionate about her work as a Salvos Christmas Coordinator supporting those in need, because she knows what it is like to struggle at Christmas When her marriage broke up more than 30 years ago, she was left to raise four children alone. She had married at 17 and soon discovered her husband struggled with alcoholism. Living with family and domestic violence, she says, I was frightened. I know what it is like to wear long sleeves, so people don’t see the bruises. My husband would tell me that I’m good for nothing and you just get to the point where you believe that. Not knowing where to turn, Rosemary and her children felt trapped. She had no idea that The Salvation Army could help until she started taking her son to a Salvos youth program. When I got (to the Salvos) the officer there spoke to me, then called in the welfare worker. They then found my children and myself a place to stay. They opened the family store to get clothes and organise food. They put me through a course to build up my self-esteem and work through my years of abuse. They continued to work with me for a number of years, helping with Christmas gifts and food, camps, and in many other ways. Rosemary went on to volunteer and then work in a number of roles with the Salvos. Helping others through her local Salvos at Christmas time is her favourite role. The Salvos are here for you this Christmas. If you need support or financial assistance, please reach out. Go to for more information: https://fal.cn/3bDVM

04.01.2022 We are continuing to support people just like Hazel who have been impacted by the 2019/2020 bushfires. Hazel and her partner came in contact with The Salvation ...Army after bushfires swept through their Cobargo property in New South Wales, leaving their home destroyed. After receiving a Loss of Residence grant from the Salvos, they are now rebuilding and hope to be in their new home soon. This could not be possible without your generous donations. THANK YOU to everyone for your kindness and support To read more, go to: http://ow.ly/AGvC50AIDgt If you or someone you know were impacted by the 2019-2020 bushfires, you can continue to call us on 1300 662 217 or email [email protected]

Thank you to everyone who contributed. Together, we will get through this heartbreaking year. #TheSalvationArmy #RedShieldAppeal #LeaveNoOneIneed
03.01.2022 Have you heard of a coat tree? In late June, the Salvos started a coat tree on the Gold Coast, hanging warm coats and jackets on a tree in a park for those... experiencing homelessness. Yes, even on Queenslands Gold Coast it gets cold during winter! The idea was originally created by 10-year-old Oliver Edwards in Tasmania in 2018. If someone needs a warm coat, they can go to the tree to find one. If someone has a spare coat they want to donate, they can hang it on the tree. To date, 200 coats have been given to those in need. Its a great connection point to start up conversations with people, many of them homeless, going in and out of court, says Kevin Lawler (pictured) from Gold Coast Salvos. Do you think your community would benefit from a coat tree this winter? Why not start your own and give back to those most in need during these tough times.
01.01.2022 I met these 2 inspirational fellas this morning. Please help them with their goal
01.01.2022 With all that is going on in the world, the impact of prolonged drought is yet another hardship that some are still enduring.
