20.01.2022 #NAIDOC2020 - Sharing essential stories through art Beginning Sunday, National NAIDOC Week 2020 is an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate the rich... history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing living cultures on the planet. Encouraging creativity and the sharing of stories around country, community and culture is the focus of a dedicated creative art space at The Salvation Army Doorways Hub in Katherine, 270km south of Darwin. Artist Aunty Janet Dreamer said she has been painting since she was in her teens, but it is only through the access to supplies the hub offers that she has been able to start again. "I love to paint birds and kangaroos, anything from the bush, and especially if it's good tucker," she said. To read more about the art hub, go to: https://fal.cn/3boD4 #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOCWeek2020

16.01.2022 Today is R U OK? day. We know that this year has been extremely hard for so many. We have experienced droughts, bushfires and a global pandemic. It is important during these times to stay connected and reach out to others. If you have a feeling that someone you know or care about isn’t behaving as they normally would? Perhaps they seem out of sorts? More agitated or withdrawn? Or they’re just not themselves. Trust that gut instinct and act on it. We are in this together. Look out for those around you, check in with your family, friends & neighbours and ask R U OK? If you need help head to https://www.ruok.org.au/findhelp where you can find phone numbers, resources and advice on how you help support someone who might be struggling. #RUOK?

12.01.2022 As National Reconcilation Week is observed around this land now known as Australia, we invite you to reflect on this year's theme, "More than a word: reconcilia...tion takes action". It is a powerful reminder that what we do is far more important than what we say. It’s a principle that is also found repeatedly in Scripture, not least when James writes, Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says (James 1:22). In 2021, as we mark 20 years of Reconciliation Australia and almost three decades of Australia’s formal reconciliation process, this theme urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action.
11.01.2022 We need more housing so that no one is left out in the cold. We need more housing, so that young people have stability and safety. We need more housing, so young people can thrive. We just need more housing. #BuildSocialHousing #Everyoneneedsahome
10.01.2022 This is nine year old Riley Riley helps to remind us that even though this year has been tough, Australian’s have worked to get through the darkness together.... Now we should all take the time to reflect and together focus on and celebrate the good memories that mattered most in 2020. In ‘Small Gift, Big Heart this Christmas’, come behind the scenes of the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal to see how together with the community, we support the vulnerable and give hope to those who need it most. ‘Small Gift, Big Heart this Christmas’ premieres on Channel 9 Friday 4 December at 7:30PM AEDT. #TheSalvationArmy #Christmas #KmartAus #KmartWishingTree #SmallGiftBigHeart Kmart Australia

04.01.2022 Australians have been through a testing time recently. Events of the past year have resulted in widespread unemployment and financial instability, and amplified existing social issues like never before. Countless Aussies many for the first time are reaching out to us for support. We continue to provide services to individuals and families doing it tough, knowing that we are now needed more than ever. To ensure that the harmful impacts of the past year’s events do not have... a long-lasting effect on the most vulnerable in our communities, we need your help. Please donate to or fundraise for us to help us continue our work alongside people in need. Together we can give hope where it’s needed most. https://digitaldoorknock.salvationarmy.org.au/youth-homeles

01.01.2022 While we all continue to work to understand the new restrictions across SA here are a few tips. Stay home as much as possible leave the house only to gain access to essential services such as food and medical assistance wear a mask in public where you can isolate and seek testing if you were in one of the identified risk areas. And most important take care of yourself, take care of each other and stay positive. Together we will get through this.
