17.01.2022 The Jab The jab is one of the most important punches in boxing. It can be used to find subtle tells in your opponents defence, pull out a big punch, score points or set up your power punches. To be able to use it effectively though it must be done with the correct technique. Here's some key pointers !! Head off to the Right: Moving your head off the centre line is a crucial to your defence when throwing a punch. Moving your head when punching allows you to throw at ...the same time as your opponent and minimise the risk of getting hit at the same time. Lead Knuckle Turned Over: Landing with the lead knuckle over and landing at the end of the punch can be very effective in increasing reach and accuracy. Lead Shoulder High: Keeping the punching shoulder high also helps your defensive responsibility as it prevents hooks from landing. Rear Elbow and Hand Tight: Make sure your elbow and hand are not only in a defensive position but also tight, ready for left hooks and left rips Rotate Hips: Twisting the hips and shoulders are essential for the 'snap' of the punch as it helps create torque which ends up at the end of the punch ! Weight in a Stable Rear Leg: Keep the majority of your weight in your rear leg to ensure stability when throwing you're jab to increase your overall strength when punching. Pivot the Lead Foot: Pivoting the lead foot helps to facilitate the rotation of the hips and shoulder mentioned above to get the power popping !! #boxing #perthfitfam #perthboxing #perthmma #boxingtraining #fighting #perthfitness #ausboxing

15.01.2022 The Cross The cross is a favourite punch of many as it is the natural power hand. It can be great coming over the jab or a taxing blow if brought down to the belly. Keeping a steady arm: Landing with the arm tight is important for maintaining balance and the follow through of your punch. Not only that but when landing the shot to the body especially it can be far more impactful for distance control Shoulder High: Keeping the punching shoulder high helps to maintain defensive responsibility as it prevents the lead check hook from landing clean. Lead Arm Tight: Make sure your elbow and hand are not only in a defensive position but also tight, ready for right hooks and their cross !! 14.01.2022 The Speed Bag The speed bag can be a great tool for building hand-eye coordination and shoulder endurance. It can be tough to master though so here are some tips to get started !! The easiest way to start is by hitting the ball with the front of your hand, waiting for 3 bounces, and then hitting it with the side of your hand, then switching sides. ... You can also increase the difficulty by rolling the punches over when switching hands by hitting with the second hand before it bounces twice. To increase stamina on one arm you can also repeatedly hit the ball with one hand until you fatigue and then change hands #boxing #boxingtraining #perthfitfam #perthboxing #perthfitness #fitness #speedbag #boxingdrills #ausboxing #ausfitfam

13.01.2022 The Double-End Bag Double end bag is great to build your timing in boxing, hand eye coordination and accuracy. It can be quite tricky to get the hang of to start with though so here are some pointers. Start with the jab: Getting the jab going is the best step to start with to ensure you can get the other punches in there. It’s also the most important punch to get the timing of first ... Get the right hand going: start adding in the right hand by timing it after the jab to increase the difficulty Add in looping shots: Timing the looping shots and trying to land punches after can help in improving accuracies and landing on a specific target Put combinations in: Finish by putting all your types of punches together now and throwing combinations #boxing #perthfitfam #perthboxing #perthmma #boxingtraining #fighting #perthfitness #ausboxing

12.01.2022 If you never know failure, you’ll never know success - Sugar Ray Leonard This is a great quote from one of 4 kings of the 90s welterweight/middleweight division. Being able to overcome obstacles and power through adversity is essential in boxing ! As a fighter training consists of constantly finding new mistakes to improve and challenging more difficult opponents to learn as a boxer. Make sure to keep in mind that all the small failures day to day are key for the wins o...n the big stage !! - #boxing #perthfitfam #boxingwa #perthboxing #boxfit #boxingtraining #perthisok

11.01.2022 The Lead Hook - The lead hook is a favourite punch for many. It can be a great counter for the cross as well as being very effective in both combination and body punching. The key to using it effectively though is technique, here are some important tips. ... Keeping the head tucked behind the lead shoulder : Bringing the shoulder up to the chin can help to provide defence when exchanging from looping shots, helping to cover the target. Forearm parallel: Make sure the forearm is straight (not too low and not too high !!) Keeping the forearm helps to defend from straight shots when exchanging. Palm facing in: This point is a lot up to preference but personally I prefer the palm facing in for short range hooks as it feels much stronger and the palm facing down for long range hooks to ensure greater reach as-well as accuracy. Rear elbow tucked in: Making sure to keep your elbow tight at the body and fist tight at the head is a great way to passively defend from left rips and hooks while throwing your own. Keeping the body level: It's easy when committing to a punch to want to throw yourself in the same direction. Make sure when throwing your hooks to stay level to avoid walking onto a punch or throwing yourself off balance Rotate the hips: make sure the hips and shoulder rotate clockwise to help recruit your muscle in your lower body to generate power for your punch Bend the rear knee and plant the rear foot : ensure your stable in the back foot to improve balance and stability : Pivot the lead foot: rotating the lead foot helps with the rotation of the hips and shoulders as well as facilitating the weight transfer to the back leg #boxing #perthfitfam #perthboxing #perthmma #boxingtraining #fighting #perthfitness #ausboxing @ Lacey's

10.01.2022 The Body Jab Drop your head down to the right: dropping your head down to the opposite side your punching can keep you away from your opponents left hand. This makes the body jab an effective counter to the jab. Rear arm tucked: Keeping the rear arm close to the body helps to keep you defensive against any left body shots coming at you at the same time. ... Core tight: maintaining a tight core is effective in keeping yourself stable when throwing a punch as-well as strengthening the kinetic chain so that power is transferred effectively. Sit into rear knee: dropping the weight into your rear knee provides you with the stability to effectively through the jab as well as a good base of support to push off. Step out and pivot with the lead foot: stepping into your jab helps you to cover distance, and stepping and pivoting helps to turn the hips and shoulders into the punch #boxing #perthfitfam #perthboxing #perthmma #boxingtraining #fighting #perthfitness #ausboxing See more

06.01.2022 If you never know failure, you’ll never know success - @sugarrayleonard Perfectly said by one of the greats This a great, succinct quote which is important to come back to as boxers. Testing yourself in the gym is critical for success but unfortunately the best way to learn in that setting can be getting clipped or making a mistake. ... It’s important in these situations to know that even the greats agreed that there has to be failure for there to be success !
