19.01.2022 The UK’s National Grief Awareness Week is complete but that doesn’t mean the conversation has to end https://calendly.com/samdemmon-grief-recovery-/initial-chat

17.01.2022 On this final day of #NationalGriefAwarenessWeek, we're thankful that we've been able to start conversations, share people's stories and raise awareness of the ...challenges shared by grieving people all over the UK and beyond. Why is this so important to us? There are over 500,000 deaths each year in England alone, meaning millions who suffer the death of a family member or friend and are likely experiencing feelings of grief Social stigma that still exists around topics such as death, loss, "negative" feelings, grief that lasts for longer than "normal", and the shame that grieving people experience as a result Myths and unhelpful comments such as "time heals all wounds", "just go out and meet someone else", "you need to stay strong for the kids" or "he/she wouldn't want you to be sad" still being widely shared and passed down to younger generations Non-death-related losses such as divorce, breakup, the loss of health, estrangement, and dozens more not being widely recognised as losses that can cause the symptoms of grief and severely impact mental wellbeing People feeling like they need to grieve alone or who lose friends following a loss The 350+ people who registered for this week's free webinars, thousands of views of our #ShareYourStory videos and the large number of local communities and organisations lighting their buildings in yellow at 6pm this evening show us that this topic is important to so many and needs more attention. We would like to thank all of the specialists who shared their stories, offered free webinars, posted on social media and started conversations within their communities this week. Thank you to everyone who commented on our posts or attended one of our events - together we will KEEP working to bravely bust the taboos around grief and help people feel comfortable talking about their grief journey! #NGAW2020 #ShareYourStory #griefuk
