25.01.2022 Didn’t paint today. But I did have a surprise visit from some of my dearest and oldest friends. The type of friends I’ve known since we were twelve years old. Happy.

23.01.2022 More work on the magnolia - first colour layer

23.01.2022 Worked back into the red gum today. I noticed the tree across the road had some blossoms on it, completely out of season, obviously confused. Normally it flowers in November.......hmmmmmm......

22.01.2022 Bottle bottoms upside down. On the easel from Sunday, a new painting of grevillea Magnifica at the blocking in stage (even if you can’t see the flower yet)

20.01.2022 On the easel today - it’s been a while since I painted this pelargonium. Five years, in fact. But there she was, smiling at me in the garden the other day.

18.01.2022 The flower I always associate with my mother is camellias. And while it was too early in the season to paint the pink camellias from her own tree, and I still wanted to paint camellias for her birthday, one of our very generous neighbours let me raid their white camellia tree instead. This is a detail of the present I made for Mum. Happy 80th Birthday, my lovely mother. I am so happy you were surrounded by so much love for this very special celebration. We love you!!! @rosemaryprints xxxxxxxxxx

18.01.2022 Yesterday’s study in our online portrait painting class with @mariemansfieldart via @artestartschool - I’ve learnt heaps!! (For instance, I seem to always paint @michaelsimmsart’s nose too long - why is that?? ) Sad the class is now finished but hoping to join in on another one with Marie again at a later date Thanks, Marie

18.01.2022 Working with all the greens today (and yellows and blues, reds.....) - second colour pass.

18.01.2022 Flowers for you today, especially if you live in South Australia. And I’ll throw in some virtual hugs as well Go well, you lot! xxxxx

17.01.2022 One of the (too many) paintings I have on the go in the studio right now. I’ll be working on her again tomorrow.

15.01.2022 This is another little one I have on the go at the moment - beloved pomegranate. Trying out different underpainting colours, and I’ve used Burnt Sienna by itself for this one, rather than mixing in yellow ochre which is what I’ve combined in some of the other recent paintings.

14.01.2022 This beautiful green ginger jar has been sitting quietly among all the other bottles and cases until last week when she started shouting at me to paint her. So she’s up on the easel today in a small study as we get to know each other. There’s also a painting video in my stories if you’re keen for another stickybeak.

14.01.2022 On the easel today - a WIP of orchids from my neighbour. And peekaboo appearances from other WIPs on the wall behind.

13.01.2022 One from the last show, ‘Still Life with Ripe Fig’, 50 x 50cm, Oil on Canvas, SOLD @akbellingergallery with photo by @b_o_w_o_n_g It’s been a chilly day here, lots of rain, thunder and hail; hope you’re keeping warm

13.01.2022 This afternoon’s acrylic painting from my weekend painting trip with @carlylecerf and @anitaphillipsstudio staying in a glorious little cottage in Amelup, north of the Stirling Ranges. Carly is doing a live ‘studio’ catchup from the cottage at 6pm today if you are keen for a stickybeak xx @yardupcottageandquarters

13.01.2022 I’m currently in the phase of working back into all the paintings filling up the studio, and I’m still listening to podcasts while I work but mostly find myself going back to old favourites and those I am particularly familiar with. @thewestwingweekly is getting another run through. Pincushion Hakea painting in the easel today.

10.01.2022 My neighbour grows glorious orchids. And across the road, so does Lila. They both have given us orchid plants over the years but I spied this particular cymbidium flower stem when I popped next door one day and Steve kindly let me have it. Yay! Current WIP on the easel today.

10.01.2022 Working back into this little pomegranate with second paint layers and glazes today, and trialling some new brushes to do it. I’m rather liking them so far...... let’s see how long that lasts!

09.01.2022 Littlie WIP on the easel with a burnt sienna underpainting (and a peekaboo magnolia behind)

09.01.2022 I see red. All the red/s. The mid century lava vase making its next appearance and making me happy.

08.01.2022 In the studio today - protea blocking-in WIP with a peekaboo from the magnolia waiting for her next layers.

07.01.2022 This beautiful ‘Moonlight’ vase is by @chrystielongworth @cobaltandkin - the perfect echo of (and match for) the wavy succulent shapes I am currently obsessed by. Thank you for such a beautiful vessel, Chrystie

01.01.2022 This morning (and all of yesterday tbh), I was in complete work avoidance mode. It was a case of being really close to finishing but not wanting to in case I stuffed it up. That always happens to me at this stage. How I move through it is by writing a plan of what needs doing and setting my timer for 40 minutes, which I find is the perfect time chunk for me to get stuff done a la The Pomodoro Technique. And then, when the timer goes off, chances are I’ll keep working anyw...ay. Which I did! Yay! After a break I set the timer again and got back to work. Happy days, I ticked off the whole list. Hooray!! Is it finished? Not quite, but sooooo close. I’ll leave it to dry now and give it a few days before I have a look at it again to see what needs doing to be truly finished. Wishing you all a beautiful weekend See more
