21.01.2022 Hugh and I had some great conversations while doorknocking in Roleystone.
13.01.2022 Just announced: our plan for one of the most significant reforms to public transport in WA's history. Before I run you through it, here's the short summary: if you currently pay more than a 2 Zone fare, you're going to see BIG savings. Our public transport network is a great way to commute, and with METRONET, it's only going to get better.... But the fact is that it can be expensive, especially as you get further out into the suburbs. For many people, it just doesn't add up as a viable option. We're going to change that. A re-elected McGowan Labor Government will reduce the cost of public transport in the suburbs, by capping fares for all metropolitan train and bus journeys at the cost of a 2 Zone ticket. Under the plan, the maximum price a passenger will pay will be a 2 Zone ticket. Currently, for a standard trip that is $4.90 in cash, $4.40 if using the standard Smartrider and $3.90 for the Smartrider auto-reload. For concession travellers, this would be $2.10 in cash and $1.68 for the Smartrider auto-reload. Regular passengers who travel into the CBD from the outer suburbs will save hundreds, or even thousands of dollars per year. For example, a Dawesville resident who commutes daily to the Perth CBD (a 9 zone journey) currently pays about $5,300 annually - this will be slashed to about $1,960 - a saving of more than $3,000 per year. From Joondalup or Ellenbrook (3 Zone journeys), commuters would save around $360 per year. From Armadale (4 Zones), they'd save around $800, and from Yanchep (6 Zones), they'd save around $1,880. This change will make a huge difference for households, and make using public transport a more viable option for tens of thousands of West Aussies. It will also benefit anyone who travels across more than 2 zones anywhere - whether it's for universities, hospitals, workplaces or visiting family. This is a massive change to public transport - and it will help take thousands of cars off our roads, benefitting everyone who travels around Perth. With METRONET, we're building a world-class public transport network for Perth. This important and historic reform will make sure that everyone can make the most of it.
07.01.2022 It was a hot morning for doorknocking but great to speak to locals in Cloverdale
02.01.2022 Guide Dogs WA provide life changing guide dogs to Western Australians in need an invaluable service to our state. A re-elected McGowan Government will provide them with $5 million to set up a world class breeding program at multiple locations across the state. This will increase the number of available puppies in WA and broaden the reach of highly trained dogs to include autism assistance dogs, therapy dogs, dementia dogs, court dogs in the justice system, post-traumatic stress disorder and mental health assistance dogs, in addition to guide dogs.
