24.01.2022 SHINE SA CEO Natasha was excited to receive this jersey today from Adelaide University Sharks Rugby Union Football, who we are proud to sponsor: It feels like Christmas all over again at SHINE SA. Super chuffed and honoured to receive this signed jersey from Adelaide’s first gay and inclusive Rugby Team. Thank you so much to the awesome Adelaide Sharks!

24.01.2022 Want to get back to volunteering and back out into the community? SAMESH is looking for volunteers to assist us during the fabulous Feast Festival 2020! We are looking for volunteers to work almost every day of the festival. We have shifts throughout the day to fill, as well as evening shifts. ... Please email [email protected] if you would like more information (it will make his day!)

24.01.2022 Thank you to Dr Dharminy Thurairatnam, a Junior Doctor at Lyell McEwin Hospital (LMH), for her quick thinking actions that identified the Parafield Cluster. A ...cough alerted Dr Thurairatnam to do a respiratory swab that was essential in picking up the first case as part of the cluster. If the swab wasn't taken at LMH, there would have been widespread community transmission. Dr Thurairatnam told The Advertiser: "I think every frontline worker is a hero during the pandemic." If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, even if mild, get tested as soon as possible.

23.01.2022 How our parent organisation Thorne Harbour Health has helped to transform access to services for trans people in Victoria, with a new model

23.01.2022 All best wishes from our team to you today!

23.01.2022 Today we held our first post-lockdown cooking class at Hyde Street! We had eight participants who enjoyed watching Paul's cooking, and eating the results. Attendees learned how to make Easy Spanish Beef (served with rice and spiced pita chips), followed by Paul's famous Boiled Chocolate Cake. Participants were also able to take home lovely fresh produce for their pantries & fridges.... Our next cooking class will be a special Feast event featuring the one & only GK, watch this space!

22.01.2022 "Boxing Australia has endorsed efforts by World Gay Boxing Championships (WGBC) to build inclusivity and combat homophobia and transphobia in the sport by launching the world's first such LGBTQ+-friendly tournament."

20.01.2022 Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations (AFAO) has a new blog, ‘Gay men’s strategies to avoid COVID-19 through sexual encounters’ by Dr Dean Murphy, Kirby Institute and Alfred Health. The blog explains that the initial period of the COVID-19 pandemic was characterised by decreases in the number of sexual partners/encounters among gay, bisexual, and queer-identifying (GBQ) men. A recent review revealed that these men were adopting a range of strategies to avoid the risk o...f infection. Check out more details in the blog below.

20.01.2022 "The 28-year-old hopes that his coming out journey will inspire others, stating: If I get help one person be brave enough to live in their truth, then I feel like that that was the entire point of my post".

19.01.2022 SAMESH's face-to-face cooking classes for people living with HIV and older LGBTIQ+ community members have resumed! If you came to the first post-lockdown class, you will have learned from Paul how to make this versatile dish of Spanish Beef. If you didn't, here's your chance! This is an easy take on a chilli style dish that can be served many ways. Serve it with rice or spoon over corn chips, add cheese and eat like nachos. Add to a tortilla or pita bread with cheese, onion, ...lettuce, avocado and mayo. With bonus recipe for Pita Chips :) Download Paul's recipes here: https://sasha.shinesa.org.au/samesh-cooking-class-presents/

18.01.2022 We need to let you know that Rapido - our rapid HIV testing clinic held on Monday afternoons/evenings - is closed until further notice. 16.01.2022 Nobody knows what to expect anymore: but whatever happens in 2021, the SAMESH team would like to wish you all the best! We will to continue to work alongside our communities in whichever way we can during 2021, continuing to adapt to changes and challenges together. Happy New Year!

16.01.2022 "There has been an outpouring of support for Dan Palmer, the Australian former rugby union player, after he became the first Wallabies player and just the second men’s international to come out as gay."

16.01.2022 Our periodic survey recruiters will be returning this weekend to Pulteney 431 sauna, to collect survey responses in a bid to obtain a wider understanding of the needs of the MSM community of SA. If you see a recruiter, say hi, and ask to have your say!

15.01.2022 We are not going to lie: we, along with our partners at the History Trust of South Australia, are particularly disappointed that amongst everything else we have had to close the AIDS Quilt exhibition early, and that we cannot proceed at this time with the planned AIDS Quilt forum. It was a couple of years work to get to this point, and we know some of you hadn't yet seen it on display, and some of you were looking forward to attending and/or participating in the Quilt forum ...(as were we!). Those who have seen it have told us how much it meant to them - and that has meant a lot to us. We, like everyone else, know we need to do our bit to help get the COVID-19 virus under control: even when that means swallowing some unpleasant medicine. But it's not all bad news! Both we and the History Trust of South Australia are passionate about bringing the Quilt to you, and about holding the forum for the community to celebrate its past and discuss its future. (Also, none of us like to give up very easily). So, we are incredibly excited and heartened to tell you that The AIDS Quilt exhibition and forum will now be part of South Australia's History Festival in May 2021! South Australia's History Festival is an annual statewide event presented by the History Trust of South Australia. Held throughout May each year, the History Festival explores the state’s places and spaces, stories, collections and ideas that make us who we are. So watch this space for the return of the Quilt, as details become available! In the meantime we would also like to assure everyone that we will continue to digitise the panels for the proposed SA Quilt website. (This will be done ASAP, but we are sure you understand that with everything in flux right now we don't even want to estimate a date). Thanks everyone, and please stay safe ( by @merchusey )

15.01.2022 In this video NAPWHA 's Senior Research Manager Dr John Rule delves into his experience as a long term survivor, and the many changes over the course of his HIV journey.

13.01.2022 Some days you just want to cook. Or eat. Or cook AND eat! With another recent lockdown (and perhaps more looming), Paul has been baking again. Once again we’ve had to cancel our scheduled face-to-face cooking class aimed at PLHIV and older LGBTIQ+ folk, due to COVID-19: so Paul is sharing his Nan Dot’s peanut cookie recipe with us instead. He calls these biscuits a blast from the past, as they evoke a lot of childhood memories for him. Dot put the recipe recipe her 197...7 recipe book! You can see the original book pictured below, now in the care of Paul’s mum, Pam. It's peak 1977! Paul used this very book to bake his crunchy golden cookies, also pictured below. Can't you just smell them cooking? Paul says these biscuits are tried and tested over many years, use basic ingredients, and take minutes to make and bake. They are called peanut cookies: however you could swap the peanuts for other nuts and get the same result (Dot would approve, I think!). " Find out more and download Paul's Nan's peanut cookie recipe here: https://sasha.shinesa.org.au/samesh-cooking-class-presents/

13.01.2022 Just a reminder that due to ongoing COVID restrictions, our Sauna tours this weekend will remain cancelled, as previously announced. We know this is disappointing, and many of you were curious to see the sauna. We hope to reschedule these tours in the near future to learn the history of Adelaide's longest running sauna for gay & bi men. In the meantime, our friends at Pulteney 431 have put together a page to tell you what you might expect on a first time visit: https://p...ulteney431.com.au/first-time/ Just to be clear: although our sauna tours have been cancelled (for now), the sauna itself reopened as a sauna today (Wednesday)! They are putting in place strict measures to prevent COVID-19 transmission. See their website for more!

13.01.2022 If you were planning to come for our coffee, cake and condom packing session tomorrow (Thursday 19th), we are sorry to say it has been cancelled. We follow all advice and regulations regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19), as our priority is to keep everyone safe at this time. We hope to reschedule the session as soon as it is safe to do so.... Thanks everyone

11.01.2022 Just a reminder that this month's Poz Lounge Gathering (PLG) with Positive Life SA will obviously have to be cancelled, due to the lockdown. This is disappointing, but we hope this lockdown will do the trick in terms of getting the COVID-19 virus under control. PLG will be back as soon as it is safe for us to hold it, with a tasty lunch, massages, and a chance for a bit of a catch up with people. In the meantime, please stay safe, everyone!

09.01.2022 'You have a complete life and a whole sense of self; invite people to share that joy instead of hoping too visibly they’ll patch the part that doesn’t feel complete. We have to be nourishing and complex for others if we want to have nourishing and complex relationships. And don’t relate to your age as a strike against you. Be nervous and self-conscious of it and people will think there is something to be self-conscious of. Be vibrant and unapologetic and they will agree that there is nothing to apologise for."

01.01.2022 Thursday, December 17th is International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers Day - and this year it is more important than ever to stand with sex workers. On this day each year, sex workers and allies around Australia join together against the stigma, discrimination and violence that occur at three times the rate in a criminalised environment like South Australia. On this day we also recognise the intersectionality of sex workers oppression and the disproportionate effe...ct stigma and discrimination have on the LGBTQIA+, Aboriginal, and CALD workers in Australia's sex industry.
