25.01.2022 Seeking a volunteer helper for a side saddle day THIS Sunday the 15th of March in Kilmore!! You don't need to know anything about side saddle to help, just need to know how to do up girths and be happy to walk alongside less confident riders. Lunch normally provided by host club. PM me if you can help!!
25.01.2022 COMING SOON TO SAME SIDE EQUESTRIAN! I was so eager to pull these out of the box and snap some pics but the evening light wasn't in my favour so please excuse the dodgy photos! While lessons have been non-existent due to Covid, we've been working hard over the last few months on a different venture instead; these super cute casual side saddle tees - just in time for summer!!! With the coolest little side saddle decal on the front drawn exclusively for us, they are super u...nique! Perfect for the side saddle enthusiast or any equestrian alike, team with breeches or jeans for a casual look. We (and a bunch of my super buddies) will be road testing them for wear and wash over the next couple of weeks after which time they will be available for purchase via my website. Exciting times ahead!
24.01.2022 (Slightly delayed) Side Saddle Sunday! A lovely Sunday spent teaching at Truganina Pony Club and we were thankfully blessed with nicer mild weather for the day! A super group of eager kids who all gave it a wonderful go and we were even lucky enough to be able to introduce the kids in their Riders Without Horses program to side saddle as well. ... We also LOVE teaching at the clubs whose parents decide they don't want to miss out on all the fun either and jump on to have a go!! Here are a few of my favourite snaps from the day and you can check out more photos via the clubs FB page
22.01.2022 Really pleased with our new gear bags that arrived today! We take a lot of gear with us when we teach at pony clubs and clinics so these will definitely come in handy to keep it all organised, especially the million girths we have to bring
22.01.2022 Our t-shirts are already @savvy_thesphynx approved Maybe we should get her one of her own?!
21.01.2022 Same Side Equestrian were proud to sponsor the side saddle classes at the 2019 Arabian Horse Classic Show on the weekend just gone. Sadly I don't believe there were any entries for the class. Arabians and their derivative counterparts are the only breed society (I believe) who have their own designated side saddle class at most Arabian shows. Do you have an Arabian or Arabian Derivative and want to give these classes a go but don't know where to start? Contact us! We can help with lessons, saddle hire or purchase, turnout, etc.
21.01.2022 Fun fact Friday! Below is one of my fave side saddle quotes and the inspiration for what I am hoping will become a weekly segment on this page! Is there something about side saddle you've always wanted to know or ask? Whether it relates to riding, saddle fit, the horse, etc. no question is a silly question! Submissions will be taken via comment, private message or via my current insta story @leg.over.lady and I hope to be able answer a few of your questions every Friday!
21.01.2022 SOLD Louis Epstein Turnout Habit - Black in colour. Flattering cutaway front and single vent back. Approx. a 10 in size. Extensive measurements of jacket and apron can be taken for serious buyers. Some small cosmetic holes in collar but cannot be seen easily when worn. Apron is not fully lined (keeping it nice and lightweight for Australian summers) though does have some worn away lining on the inside (can provide photos if requested, does not effect use). Stunning habit that's only for sale as it no longer fits. Will be dry cleaned before sold.
20.01.2022 Had an absolute ball teaching some private lessons down in Bellbrae for yesterdays Side Saddle Sunday! You almost could have called it a Baroque horse side saddle day (with one honorary Thoroughbred thrown in the mix!) I was also lucky enough to have a little sit in a Spanish side saddle that I helped facilitate the sale of from it's past to now present owner. ... Thank you to all the riders for putting up with my sick crackly voice and riding so superbly!!
20.01.2022 (A slightly delayed) Side Saddle Sunday! A bit closer to home last Sunday. A lovely morning spent at Berwick Pony Club who hold their rallies at the beautiful Oakwood Riding School. The covered arena was certainly much appreciated! Having a side saddle rally was a big surprise for the members and parents alike as their sneaky DC didn't tell them what was planned for today! Despite lots of initial shock, lots had a canter and everyone did a super job, including myself wh...o had to almost jump to saddle up some of the BIGGEST horses we've taught to date!! As always if you attended today, please feel free to drop us some photos or videos below!
20.01.2022 BALLARAT CLINIC We will be back in the Ballarat area on the 24th of April. At this stage the clinic is already full but I can consider opening up a half day on the 25th if there is enough interest. This would require 4-5 riders to go ahead. Please express your either below or via PM
19.01.2022 *** UPDATE: Unfortunately to comply with current government regulations the availability to hire the arena is temporarily unavailable until April 13th. I will continue to update the comments sections with links to online competitions though for those interested :) *** Need an arena??? While online horse competitions have been popular overseas for a while now, there popularity is suddenly on the rise in Australia given the current global situation. ... In light of this I'd like to offer the hire of my beautiful 60x30 post and rail sand arena for use to ride and film in if you've entered an online competition. For online shows the arena is ready to ride in and for those looking to do dressage, I am in the process of making up some arena letters and can measure and split up the arena to a 60x20 dressage arena size. One person on the property/in the arena at a time so we've got the social distancing thing down pat!! Cost is $20 per hour and I can also arrange to help with photos/filming for an extra fee. Location: Broadford. I'll be putting the links to online competitions below in the comments but please feel free to add any as well!!
19.01.2022 Seeing as though Covid has ruined our usual Side Saddle Sundays I spent today doing a bit of a "pre-spring clean" on our website instead!! We've got a fresh new look and a few new things coming soon. Check it out at: www.samesideequestrian.com I have also FINALLY upgraded our email and you can now reach out to us at: [email protected] We're also only 28 likes away from choosing a winner from our competition!! So please don't forget to head over to the post and like, share and comment to be in the running to win!
19.01.2022 6 years ago to the day the absolutely INCREDIBLE Susan Oakes set not one, but TWO side saddle high jump world records. 6'5 over the triple bar and a whopping 6'8 over a puissance wall (photo in comments). A huge accomplishment to acknowledge no matter what discipline you comment in. Congratulations all over again Susan!
19.01.2022 Meet the team Monday... Part 2! (AND some pretty cool side saddle news if you read to the end!!) Generally when I compete or instruct side saddle at pony clubs there's a slightly taller shadow not too far behind me. An extra set of hands always makes light work of doing up so many girths ... That shadow is: the worlds best second set of eyes and hands, competition strapper extraordinaire, clipper, driver, side saddle theory master, couldn't do all this side saddle stuff without, slightly crazy kiwi (who just so happens to also be my fiancé) - Sinead! Sinead has been around since almost the beginning of my side saddle journey. While not practically applying herself to side saddle riding (apart from on our funky new saddle stand pictured) her side saddle theory is second to none and it is always put in to good practice nit picking my aside riding, position and saddle fit. She is an absolute godsend and I wouldn't be able to do as many side saddle pony club days as I do without her Speaking of side saddle pony club days: WE ARE BOOKED OUT! We have had an overwhelming amount of enquires and at this stage we are completely BOOKED OUT until MAY 2020!!!! We have a few very select availabilities in June and July before we book out for those as well. Exciting time ahead!!
18.01.2022 We are in the Ballarat area on Saturday should anyone like a side saddle lesson. We have many saddles to suit most types of horses and rider. Message us to book!!!
18.01.2022 Apologies for the lack of posting since our massive side saddle weekend on the 16th/17th. I had intended to vlog the whole weekend and while I mostly did, my iPhone has decided to be uncooperative with my Mac and I am unable to upload any footage to my laptop to edit. I am working hard to get a fix for this! Apart from that, we had an interesting weekend (but that just about sums up horses right??). We were lucky enough to take out the Cooper Memorial Side Saddle class at Ma...nsfield Ag Show on the Saturday. It was lovely to be joined in the ring by Evie who competed in her first ever side saddle class on her pony in a pilch (childs side saddle) hired from us for the day. They absolutely smashed it and stole a few hearts with their cuteness in the process I'm sure!! Sunday saw us attempt to contest the side saddle classes at Lilydale Ag Show, our last side saddle show of the year. Sadly as the day progressed my mount got a little more irritable than anticipated (hormonal mares right?) and we decided to retire from the class for the wellbeing of us both. A bit deflated but feeling fortunate that Angie Rickard was able to capture a lovely photo of us before it all went a bit south. I hope everyone had a fab weekend!
18.01.2022 COVID-19 SIDE SADDLE RALLY UPDATE - PLEASE READ While monitoring the news as well as updates from PCA/PCAV closely I just wanted to update everyone on the status of being able to operate side saddle lessons at rallies again. After liaising directly with PCAV today it has been determined that at this time I am unable to resume teaching side saddle at pony club rallies due to not being able to adhere to all current guidelines. Please see below from PCAV: ... "Given the ‘hands on’ nature of your classes, for now you are best to hold off from coaching at rallies. The current rules regarding a rally proceeding include that the coach does not undertake the ‘gear check process’ it is now the parent/guardian who does the gear check whilst supervised. It would seem that in your current situation, a parent/guardian gear check would not simply be enough as you use very specialised equipment. Your inability to assist with gear would be a safety concern for the rider first and foremost with the Covid-19 social distancing restriction of 1.5m being secondary." Those that have participated in my lessons previously will understand the 'hands on' nature of what I do. Not only do I supply all gear for these lessons but I am forefront on fitting all the saddles to horses, directly assisting with mounting on to the saddle and the adjusting of all stirrup lengths and girth adjustments as well as adjusting rider positions to ensure they're sitting correctly. All of this hands on help is paramount for rider and horse safety and is not something that can be done 1.5m away or via a parent of the child. While I am thrilled that rallies have been allowed to resume now, unfortunately the sideways fun will have to be held off for a little while longer. I have already contacted all clubs who had bookings in May and will now contact everyone who had June bookings so please look out for my correspondence. Thank you and happy safe riding!
18.01.2022 Our new business cards and awesome giant banner arrived today! Can't wait to put the banner to good use

17.01.2022 Side Saddle Sunday! Down west today to teach at Lochard Pony Club in the lovely Pullenboon South Equine Retirement indoor arena which was much appreciated on this chilly Sunday! Really super horses and riders giving it a red hot go and lots of spectators unexpectedly hoping on for a sit is well! Thanks to my super Mum Joanne for chauffeuring me around as well as snapping some photos and videos throughout the day
16.01.2022 STAY TUNED - EXCITING NEWS BEING ANNOUNCED AT 7PM TONIGHT!
16.01.2022 Yesterday Stacey competed side saddle at Wangaratta Show on her own mount "Spring Dancer" taking out the Best Ridden Side Saddle Exhibit class at the mares first show ridden aside. It's been just over 2 years since last competing side saddle and it was lovely to be back in the ring showing off this awesome discipline. A big thank you to the Wangaratta Agricultural Society for putting on the class for the two riders who were in attendance and I hope we can see the class continued on the program for next year. Don't forget to catch us next Saturday at Kyabram Ag Show and Benalla Ag Show!
15.01.2022 THE FUN OF FLOCKING A SIDE SADDLE On Friday my own lovely WBxISH mare 'Spring Dancer' got fitted for her very first side saddle! While my theory on how to flock a side saddle is up to scratch I'll be the first to admit that my practical skills most certainly are not! This is where I call in my flocking master: Fit To Perform Saddle Fitting. For those who have had the opportunity to study the panels on a side saddle you probably would have noticed the vast difference in th...e symmetry (or lack there of really!!) in the flocking compared to that of a normal astride saddle. This is just one of the many complexities that comes with flocking a side saddle to a horse. We compared a few saddles on my mare to find the best tree fit first and foremost (my 2013 Wendy Tidbold Saddlery saddle was the winner) and then proceeded to the tedious task of re-flocking. To ensure upmost comfort for my sensitive horse it was paramount to pull out most of the old flocking that was causing some lumpy bumpy panels and replace it with newer real wool. This saddle has seen many a horse and fitter over the years and the mixture of textiles in the panel was surely evidence of this. Different types of real wool, synthetic wool, various other fibres, human cotton wool and even some horse hair! And a hell of a lot of all of those things as you can see in the photos!! Once re-flocked and fitted to my horse statically I hopped on to have a little walk around to test the saddle in motion with some really good results so far. All that's left to do now is put some side saddles miles under my mares belt, get my own side saddle fitness back up and then make a sideways debut in the show ring! If you read this far, what sorts of weird things have you found in the panels of your saddles??
15.01.2022 AND THE WINNER IS...! Tammy Francis! Congratulations to Tammy and a big thank you to everyone who entered and helped us reach OVER our goal of 1,000 page likes! ... Looking forward to the next giveaway! Tammy, keep an eye out for a message from us
15.01.2022 Side Saddle Sunday! A super Sunday at Drouin Pony Club today, even if the wind almost blew us over and made it impossible to hear anything! Only a few riders which made it possible to do some cool individual things like side saddle jumping!! We take a little break from side saddle pony club days now so Stacey can focus on competing side saddle herself!... As always if you have some photos or videos you'd like to share, pop them down below in the comments!
15.01.2022 BALLARAT SIDE SADDLE CLINIC There are only a few places left for this side saddle clinic being held in the Ballarat area on January 17th. $25 deposit required to secure your spot. No side saddle experience necessary with side saddles available for hire for the lessons. We have many available to suit most horse and rider types! 15.01.2022 There's nothing I love more than a car full of side saddles!! Believe it or not there's 5 in there! We're off to Boolarra PC today to introduce the kids to riding side saddle at their PC camp
15.01.2022 Balranald Pony Club Camp here we come!! Looking forward to two full days of side saddle madness
15.01.2022 IMPORTANT Side Saddle Rally Update! Please Read! *** Everyone who had a booking up until the end of May 2020 has been contacted. Should things normalise before then (which probably isn't likely though) clubs are welcome to keep their initial booking and I will contact to confirm. If things extend past May, clubs with bookings after then will also be contacted. Thanks for your understanding! *** Given the below update from PCV on the cancellation/postponement of all rallies... this of course extends to my business whose main service offered is teaching side saddle at pony club rally days. Over the next few days I will be touching base with all clubs who had me booked to teach. New enquiries are of course still welcome but the ability to book in a date has been suspended for now. Please keep an eye on your messages and/or emails for further information. Stay safe everyone!
15.01.2022 With the recent addition of 2 more side saddles to our collection space to store them all on individual saddle stands was becoming a little bit tight. When I spotted this giant 8 saddle stand on sale from Horse Gear Outlet I jumped at the opportunity and purchased it. Absolutely no regrets! The stand perfectly holds 7 of my side saddles (with space for one more ) without any tipping and being on wheels is easy to move around in and out of the shed when I have students here for lessons. Now to fill that last empty saddle stand..
14.01.2022 Side Saddle Sunday! Today, like most Sundays, I should have been teaching at a pony club but sadly, Covid has still halted basically all of my teaching (bar virtually). So instead, I bought all the "ladies" out for a good clean and condition. The carousel of side saddles? Spinning wheel of dreams? The saddle stand of happiness? I'll let you decide!
14.01.2022 Meet the team Monday! Most of you may already know who I am either from my early side saddle days on my Standardbred gelding 'Tribal Dynasty' or through my previous SR Equine Services business but for those that don't, my name is Stacey. I am the owner/operator of Same Side Equestrian and what some people might call a fanatic when it comes to all things side saddle I have been riding, competing and instructing side saddle for close to 7 years now. In that time I've comp...eted within Victoria and SA as well as having travelled to New Zealand to sit my side saddle exams under some of the best side saddle guidance in the world. There's almost not an english discipline I haven't tried side saddle (showing, dressage, show jumping, cross country, working equitation, mounted games and hunting) but my love lies within the show ring. This way of riding has opened the doors to some amazing opportunities including many national and international magazine articles, demonstrations, leading out the harness racing at the Breeders Crown Cup and so much more. When it comes to instructing I have a real affinity for teaching the younger generation through Pony Club. This is where the large majority of my weekends are spent when I am not out competing myself. I started with one saddle and now 5 side saddles and counting later I love nothing more than sharing this amazing 'sideways' sport with all
13.01.2022 Does it get any cuter than this?! Yesterday we spent another month at Macedon Pony Clubs rally where some kids had a second go at side saddle and others having their first go. Most were lucky enough to also experience the thrill of jumping side saddle and again, it was hard to pry a few kids off the saddles! ... A big thank you to Macedon Pony Club for having us another month and for such a wonderful bunch of well behaved kids, horses and ponies! Wanting to book in a side saddle day for your club? Simply message us to check our availability!!!
12.01.2022 Side Saddle Saturday! A different kind of side saddle adventure today seeing as though restrictions have us unable to travel. Today I gave my first remote lesson via video to Chase and the unbelievably adorable Susannah (yes, that is a Donkey you're seeing!). I assisted Chase with the purchase of her saddle and today we covered tacking up, fitting and how it needs to be tweaked to suit and the riding basics. We will continue to work remotely to get the saddle fitting Sus...annah and Chase 100% and get them both comfortable and confident and hopefully by then we can manage to get together in person to continue the journey. A big thanks to Chase for being the "crash test dummy" on these remote lessons and to Fiona for being a great camera-woman on the other end If you have your own saddle and are interested in a service like this be it a riding lesson, remote saddle fitting help, etc. then please let us know!
11.01.2022 Another side saddle Sunday! It is honestly such a pleasure and honor to be able to teach side saddle at so many fantastic pony clubs across Victoria. Today we ventured down south east to Cockatoo & District Pony Club. So many awesome horses, riders and cute as a button ponies giving it their all for their first times side saddle, well done again to everyone!... Check out this slow-mo canter of senior member Jess!! Now that was a horse I was sure I could make fit in the back of the ute to smuggle home with me!
11.01.2022 Side Saddle Saturday! Days like this are pretty awesome when you get to teach the one and only #wonkydonkey Susannah! They're also even better when you get to steal a ride for yourself! Thanks for braving the weather Chase, so glad we could finally get the saddle fit tweaked and get both you and Susannah off to a flying start. Looking forward to being a part of your sideways journey
11.01.2022 BALLARAT SIDE SIDE CLINIC All riding spaces for the Ballarat side saddle clinic are now full The clinic is being held at Unicorn Equestrian Centre (33 Courts Rd Clarendon) on Sunday the 17th with the first lesson commencing at 8:30am. Fence sitters are welcome to attend at no charge. We also have some VERY exciting news to announce on Thursday. Can you guess what it may be? It's been a struggle keeping it in so for those few who know, shhhhh!
11.01.2022 Balranald Pony Club Camp Day 1! The one rider who was brave enough to tackle a jump today certainly attracted quite a crowd!! An absolutely ripper job by all riders today!
10.01.2022 Fun fact Friday! Todays submission comes from Chloe who asked: "How do you give leg aids without a leg on either side of the horse?" To put it simply when riding side saddle you do have a 'leg' on either side; one of them is just really, really skinny! Normally a long whip or cane is used to give aids in place of the leg. I personally prefer a cane as it is a little stiffer so doesn't bend when putting pressure on the horses side. Once a horse is well schooled aside, a lo...t of your aids can then be given off your shifts of weight in the seat, with the cane/whip there as an aid reinforcement if necessary. I must reiterate, a whip/cane is NOT there to hit the horse with. It is to be used in the exact same fashion as a leg applying aids. Pictured is my gorgeous leather and antler top cane made by Just Neigh. This is my cane of choice for shows and then at home I use a longer piece of plain bamboo for schooling and refinement of the aids. Got a question about side saddle you've always wanted to know? We take submissions for Fun Fact Friday every day via comment, message or via Instagram @leg.over.lady or @samesideequestrian
09.01.2022 EOI for side saddle lessons in the Ballarat area Sunday November 29th. Happy to travel locally around the area or preferably base out of one location for the day (if anyone has any suggestions of arena/facility available in the area that would be super!) 09.01.2022 Ever wondered what it's like to show side saddle?? Well here is a little taster!! On Saturday we competed at 2 horse shows in the one day in an effort to make sure each shows side saddle classes were supported. In light of the crazy experience, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and 'vlog' the day! Please take a watch, give the Youtube channel a follow and if you loved it and want to see more, let us know and you can come along for the ride at our next side saddle ...shows! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1lORB8oz3Q&feature=youtu.be A big thank you to partner in crime Sinead for filming
08.01.2022 Some of our new re-branded clothing is finally here! A big thank you to All Things Uniform in Broadford for doing the job. Another big thank you again to Ness Flett for the fantastic logo, it has stitched out beautifully! Don't forget that we will be attending Kyabram Ag Show this Saturday in the morning and then heading across to Benalla Ag Show in the late morning/early afternoon for both shows side saddle classes. Also a reminder that we are the sponsors for Benalla's side saddle classes Come find us all decked out in the green and black and say hello!
08.01.2022 Same Side Equestrian would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! This year has been a hectic one with the re-branding of the business but 2020 is set to be even more insane. We are heading in to the new year almost already completely booked out for side saddle pony club rallies, we have added an additional 2 side saddles to our collection for lessons/hire and are heading interstate for the side saddle classes at Canberra Royal. We are also setting our sights on a VERY big event towards to end of the year (I'm sure some might be able to guess what that is ) Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed going 'sideways' with us this year and we're looking forward to an exciting 2020! Stay safe, Stacey & Sinead
08.01.2022 A lovely little exert in The Weekly Times about our win at the APSB Summer Show and why I love side saddle
08.01.2022 DON'T FORGET!!! Our competition is still running! Jump on to the post to like, share and comment to be in the draw! We've also added a new tab/page to our website.. Can you guess which one it is? A correct guess might score themselves something pretty cool! www.samesideequestrian.com
08.01.2022 One week we clean, one week we repair! Even though Regional VIC has had an easing of restrictions, unfortunately I am still unable to teach those without their own saddles due to sharing of gear not being permitted for coaches. I'm sure we'll be back out there soon though! Instead, I'm spending my time learning new skills such as basic stitch repairs on the side saddles. While they may not be the prettiest stitch jobs, they're functional and I'm a big function over fashion ...believer! Have you sharpened or learn't a new skill in 'iso'?
08.01.2022 Pakenham Ag Show have contacted me asking if we would like classes on again at their 2017 show held on August 26. We had a brilliant turnout of 4 riders last ye...ar and I would love to see bigger numbers this year!! I will have 3 side saddles and 1 small childs side saddle/pilch available to hire for the sure as well as 2 habits should you wish to compete. First in best dressed in regards to the saddle hire and preference is given to those I've taught before and what saddles will fit what horses. If there are junior riders who want to compete I will request for junior/pony/galloway classes to be added. Please let me know what classes you'd like to see. See more
08.01.2022 A car full of side saddles can only mean one thing.... side saddle Sunday is BACK! Truganina Pony Club are the lucky first side saddle rally of 2020 and we're thoroughly looking forward to it (with some more desirable whether forecast for tomorrow thank goodness!) We are COMPLETELY booked out for rallies held on the 1st Sundays of the month for the remainder of the year and have started taking wait list bookings now if that is your rally day of choice. Limited availability for other weekend days. It's shaping up to be a very busy side saddle year!
08.01.2022 LOTS TO COME FOR 2021! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the friends, clients and supporters of Same Side Equestrian. Thank you for getting us through 2020 even when Covid halted virtually all of our plans! We have so many incredible things in store for 2021 and we can't wait to share them with you all, including a very exciting announcement in the next couple of weeks ... Stay safe, happy and we look forward to working with you in the near year!
07.01.2022 Side Saddle Sundays! Despite the cold I had a wonderful day teaching side saddle at Lancefield Pony Club today. So many fantastic riders, horses and ponies putting their jitters aside (pun totally intended) and giving it a red hot go!! Lots of smiles and laughs through the canters which makes it all the more worth while
07.01.2022 I promise, we're still alive!! As life and full time work tends to do sometimes it's caused me to be very inactive with this page so firstly, apologies! In the back ground we have been busy little bees though We were lucky enough to purchase our very own equine property "Raeburn Park" earlier this year set on 50 acres at the base of Mt Piper in Broadford, VIC. With a fully post and rail fenced 60x30m all weather arena we now have the ability for people to travel to us... for lessons (side saddle specifically). We will be able to offer full care, private paddock agistment in the near future. We have also done a number of side saddle days at pony club rallies recently introducing 100s more kids and horses to the super cool discipline and with my own competition calendar quickly filling up, days available for rallies are becoming very limited!! Side saddle days at pony club rallies include a theory talk, side saddle hire (with a range of saddles to suit different horse, pony and rider types) and instruction. Please PM for a price if you're interested in side saddle lessons at your next pony club rally. To maximise use and introduce as many people as we can to riding side saddle, our saddles are available for hire for lessons as well as competitions. We also have habits (proper side saddle riding attire) pending size available too. Always happy to discuss hire for competition and where you can/can't ride side saddle in Victoria. Just PM us! Thanks for sticking around, reading this post and I promise to try and be more active!
07.01.2022 Absolutely WONDERFUL day down at Boolarra Pony Club on Saturday for their camp! The huge variety of horse and human sizes posed some challenges (and reiterated the need for some smaller side saddles, don't fret, we're now working hard on that!!) but we were able to give everyone a feel for riding aside with some brave riders even cantering laps by the end of the session. A big commendation to the exceptionally well behaved riders, who all listened beautifully and asked so many questions! A big thank you again to the PC for having us. I've included some happy snaps from the day and if you have any of your own, feel free to share them below!! :)
06.01.2022 After our side saddle lessons a few weeks ago at Boolarra Pony Club, we saw the great need for a childs side saddle or pilch as they're called (essentially a side saddle version of a pony pad). We've now fulfilled the need and added a pilch to our collection of side saddles! This afternoon we gave the members of my own pony club, Sunbury Pony Club, their first taste at side saddle and got to road test the pilch on the lovely Milley with her little rider Camille. A few flock...ing adjustments and we will be good to go but Camille was able to trot around with no issues. You might see a few of the Sunbury PC members out and about side saddle now!! They all did so well. Our pony club side saddle days are booking up very fast so if you're looking for something different for your members to try at your rally days, please don't hesitate to get in contact! WWC check and PCAV registered coach for side saddle. The pilch/childs side saddle will also be available for select hire for the 2017/2018 show season. (Also a big thank you to my wonderful friend Debbie for the last minute gear making to allow us to make the pilch more adjustable to suit a larger range of ponies!!)
06.01.2022 Some more photos from our super day at Nyah Pony Club yesterday! I'm certainly feeling it today though with a classic case of what I call "girthers arm" Doing up 16 odd girths and then tightening each of them at least once or twice during the lesson takes it's toll on your arm muscles. I'll have a buff right arm soon

05.01.2022 And THIS is why we do what we do! Every so often when teaching at pony clubs you come across that special horse and rider who really want to give this sideways sport a red hot crack. Those are the moments I live for and what make me keep doing what I do with this awesome discipline. Most of you will have seen Jess and her beautiful mare Cinni feature on this page before in a super slow-mo cantering video when I taught side saddle at a Cockatoo & District Pony Club rally. ...Jess loved the experience so much she then tacked on to ANOTHER side saddle rally I ran at a different pony club to help make up numbers. With all the basics down pat and an incredible horse to carry her around, Jess was then lucky enough to get the loan of a saddle. I have assisted with the fitting via photos/videos to make sure they were as comfortable as possible. On Tuesday Jess threw herself in the deep and competed in 2 classes at a local pony club show. Not only did she compete aside in the two classes, they were also sashed Champion Ridden Hack and Reserve Champion Mount Most Suited. This is an absolutely incredible feat given the pair have only been aside for less than a handful of rides. I am SO proud and am thoroughly looking forward to watching and supporting your side saddle journey. Horse trials next yes?!?
05.01.2022 Did you know, we also take side saddles on consignment to sell on behalf of their owners! If you have an old side saddle sitting in your attic, shed or lounge room even that you'd like to sell but have no idea where to begin, please feel free to personal message me. We currently have this beauty for sale on behalf of owner: Beautiful, Australian made Matt Kelly side saddle. Built on an Aulton & Butler tree with Mayhew style stirrup fitting. Comes with matching girth, balance... strap and stirrup. Measuring 16.5" from cutback to cantle, 21" from front of fixed head to cantle, 13.5" across widest part of the seat. Approx. 8" gullet (from D-ring to D-ring), 17" between offside and near side point. Would be more suited to the classic TB or medium/narrower type horses. Would prefer wither tracings to be sent (can assist with instructions on how to do this) to determine if there is a chance it will fit before purchase or even better, can provide a fitting for a fee to those in Victoria. Priced to sell at $2300 which is generous for a virtually unused saddle. See more

03.01.2022 Technical Tuesday: what's under my apron?? A bit of a different kind of post today! I am not normally one for product reviews but after searching for the perfect pair of tights/breeches/jods for riding side saddle in for the last 6 or so years I have finally found "the ones" and just have to share! My criteria for what I wear under my apron is simple:... -Lightweight: ever worn an apron over pants during a long day of showing in the 38 Aussie summer? It sucks! -Full bottom coverage sticky seat: whether you like suede or silicon, I've always had trouble finding pants with a seat full enough to make maximum surface area contact with the seat of my side saddle. -Seams: there has to be no seams surrounding the inner or rear of the right knee to avoid bruising and pinching behind the knee. Recently I happened across a brand called Delzani Equestrian. I scrutinised the photos on their website and chatted with the team extensively before settling on their Isabella tights and I was NOT disappointed! They fit the above criteria perfectly and then some. I have shown in them a few times now and am really happy with them. I would highly recommend them to any side saddle or astride rider alike. You can find them here: https://www.delzani.com.au/isabella-ladies-horse-riding-tig
03.01.2022 SHOP APPAREL NOW! www.samesideequestrian.com/shop I was going to hold off but I've decided to soft launch our range of side saddle tees and hoodies now. At this stage - only available for purchase within Australia while I finalise my international postage rates. ... They are offered at introductory pricing while on pre-order so will take approx. 3 weeks to be dispatched. Due to that little big thing called Covid some colours and sizes are out of stock but are due to be restocked mid-December so feel free to hold off if you're after a particular colour! With the hoodies, we have opted for a french terry cotton over fleece making them a great year-round hoodie for maximum wear, I've been living in mine! We're still in the baby stages so all feedback to improve in any way is welcomed. Happy shopping!!!

So many super horses, ponies and riders with everyone giving it a spectacular go and the youngest group of the day doing some absolutely incredible canter work!! ... Thanks so much for having me at your rally, it was nice to be close to home for once!!

01.01.2022 FROM THIS > TO THIS Gone are the days of trying to negotiate (*cough* shove *cough*) 5 side saddles, a million girths and everything else that comes with side saddle days in to the back of a car. So much easier having a ute tray with a canopy! The only problem?? I see A LOT of empty space that NEEDS to be filled with more side saddles Who agrees with me?!
01.01.2022 Side saddle Sunday! Today's side saddle Sunday started with a very early morning and a 3.5 hour drive from home to Nyah District Pony Club. The drive was totally worth it though; what a FUN club with wonderful people!! ... Everyone got on with such enthusiasm to give it their absolute best, many rode some SUPER extended canters and even a few of the parents got on to have a feel! The day was kept even more interesting when not 1.. BUT 2 ponies decided to have a roll in the arena with their riders aboard (don't worry, no saddles were harmed!!) I can't WAIT to see many of the riders again at a pony club camp in July next year. If you attended today and have any photos or videos, please post them below!!
