07.05.2022 It was great to show ISQ CEO and COO around the school this week. Thanks to all the children who gave them a warm welcome!

22.04.2022 Due to the heavy rains and some road closures, we have limited staff today. Therefore, to keep everyone safe, please keep your child at home today unless you are an essential worker. Classes will be combined with staff who can attend school. Overnight the rain in Samford has been torrential and hopefully it will start to ease. We will continue to closely monitor rain and road conditions today. Have a good weekend and stay dry! Tracey Taylor... School Director See more

24.01.2022 A glimpse of the class 12 play

24.01.2022 Dear SVSS community, As you are all aware, traffic flow in and around the school is challenging and this week we had a joint meeting with Transport and Main Roads, Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC) and Brisbane Bus Lines. The school requested a School Bus Turn and Stop trial on Atanie Court (on the school side) to free up parking space in our Primary School carpark. It was agreed by all parties to complete an afternoon pick up trial for the last week of school from 30th No...vember, Monday to 4th December, Friday. We will put witches’ hats and signage on the school side of Atanie Court and therefore request school staff and parents not to park their vehicles there in the afternoon during next week. Upon completion of the trial, feedback will be gathered to ascertain suitability to continue in the future. If the trial is successful, MBRC will install the required parking signs on Atanie Court and Transport and Main Roads will revisit the school to assist us with the pedestrian loading zone area within the school carpark. The bus stop section in the primary school car park will be a 1 to 2 minute student pick up zone next week. If you wish to use this during the trial week, then please ask your child to be waiting quietly at the top of the stairs near the primary admin and they can safely be collected. This is only for 1 to 2 minutes so that others can use this zone. Other plans are afoot to improve the traffic jam near the high school and more information will be available before school starts next year. In the meantime, please drive slowly, be patient and do not ask your children to run across the road to you. We appreciate your support to make our school traffic and parking situation easy and safe for all. Warm regards, Tracey Taylor School Director Samford Valley Steiner School Phone: (07) 3430 9600 www.samfordsteiner.qld.edu.au CRICOS NUMBER: 03326J RSEGB T/A Samford Valley Steiner School

19.01.2022 Steiner educators know the central role that handwriting plays in a child’s development. Handwriting goes hand in hand with language learning, reading and worki...ng memory. This article highlights recent research which confirms that handwriting skills needs to take priority over keyboarding skills in early primary years. https://www.aare.edu.au/blog/?p=5296

17.01.2022 We would like to present two practical components of the Senior Projects - one is a published Podcast that has received positive reviews: Truly the Pinnacle of Podcasts!! My mundane day quickly transformed into a thrilling exploration of unorthodox careers, upon listening to this podcast. The other is a truly inspirational book that you have the opportunity to pre order and purchase. You will hear more about the book in this weeks newsletter. 1) Included in the last newslett...er was an interview with Angus Spark from Class 12. He made reference to a Podcast he has been working on as part of his project. We are excited to share the podcast with all of you. https://podcasts.apple.com//podca/in-the-pool/id1528943294 2) The Discrimination Effect; On Our Own Terms, By Breagh Gregory, Class 12 student. As many of you are aware in Class 12 we are required to carry out and complete a Senior Research Project. For this project, I took on the large task of creating and compiling a book on Social Judgement and Discrimination, interviewing many amazing and inspiring people, including Cathy Freeman. I would love to sell my work to the local school community and one day hopefully the broader community. If you would like to buy a copy of my book, The Discrimination Effect; On Our Own Terms, the price is $30. To pre-order your copy please contact the High School Office by the 18 September to register your interest. I will then contact you directly with payment details. Any further donations will also be appreciated to cover the costs for printing, postage and to cover those who were involved in the interviews. This book is important to me as it expresses the struggles and achievements of those who experience social judgement and discrimination, an experience I too have faced. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to email [email protected] or contact the Mercedes in the high school office [email protected] Please support these students by engaging with their projects, all of the students have been working extremely hard throughout the year to get to this stage. For more information on the projects please to to www.samfordsteiner.qld.edu.au. This page will be updated throughout the term and timing of the speeches will be available shortly.

12.01.2022 Greetings from Tropical North Steiner School! We are reaching out to our fellow Steiner families to inform you that our beautiful School will be opening its doors in 2021 with the humble beginnings of seven students. We are situated in Mossman, Far North Qld, on the lands of the Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal people, between two ancient World Heritage Areas, The Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. A small group of community members are working tirelessly, driven by a str...ong impulse and a community spirit. To ensure we can open with sufficient funding, we have started a GoFundMe page seeking the financial support. We are writing to invite you to join us on our journey of discovery, building strong foundations for our opening year. Once we settle into our new school, updates of our progress will be shared with our support community. And we hope that one day, those who have made all this possible, will allow us to welcome them onto our school site and into our hearts! We thank you in advance for any donation you can offer via our GoFundMe page. - gf.me/u/x6djva Warmly, Julie Verri, Board Director Tropical North Steiner School

03.01.2022 Steiner education is a holistic, human centred education, that deeply focuses on the development of physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual capacities of young people. A keynote at this week’s Independent Schools Queensland’s State Forum will be highlighting the importance of focusing on what makes us truly human in an ever increasing digital world. EDUCATION NEEDS A REBOOT NOT A TWEAK: ISQ STATE FORUM PRESENTER Contemporary schooling needs a critical rethink... to break the engagement epidemic turning students off learning and a reboot that extends far beyond a couple of tweaks to curriculum, Australian learning strategist Louka Parry will tell school leaders at the upcoming Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ) State Forum. We need to return to first principles for what we think should sit at the heart of human development, according to Mr Parry. In a shifting digital world we must focus on the dimensions that make us truly human. Our collective opportunity is to better converge the social, emotional and academic domains of learning in order to inspire and equip young people (and ourselves) for today and tomorrow, he said. https://www.isq.qld.edu.au//education-needs-a-reboot-not-/

01.01.2022 A New Steiner High School for Western Australia New Parkerville High School Campus Given Green Light Perth Waldorf School has gained official approval from the... WA Minister for Education and Training for the new High School Parkerville campus, planned to open February, 2022. This week, the School received notice of a successful advance determination from the Hon Sue Ellery, which confirms the opening of 27 more places for new secondary students. The new high school campus will be established on land leased from Silver Tree Steiner School. The lease agreement is for an initial 10 years, with the option to renew for a further two 10 year periods. Perth Waldorf School will operate the high school as a second campus and continuation of the long-running high school already in place at Bibra Lake. Opening the new High School Campus in Parkerville will mean students at Silver Tree Steiner School, and those from surrounding areas, will have the opportunity of a Steiner high school education in the Hills, without having to compete for limited places or travel down to Bibra Lake. In turn, this means opportunities for new students at Bibra Lake campus, with many students who would have travelled from the Hills able to attend closer to home. Built in four stages, the campus will open to students starting Class seven in 2022 and continue through more development stages to allow for an ongoing journey to graduation in Class 12. Stage two, three and four will see eight new learning areas progressively established to completion in 2026, including general use classrooms as well as specialist rooms for science, arts and music. Significant landscaping and other student friendly amenities will be provided to ensure a high quality experience in the natural beauty of Parkerville. Construction of the new Perth Waldorf School Parkerville High School Campus is planned to begin in early 2021, subject to all appropriate building and planning approval processes. Currently, there are four Steiner education-based primary schools across the metropolitan area, as well as two in the south west and one in Geraldton, but there is only one Steiner high school, in Bibra Lake. The Perth Waldorf School, an independent school, was established in 1982 and the current High School was opened in 2007. Enrolments are now open for the new High School Campus in Parkerville for Class seven in 2022 onwards. Contact the Perth Waldorf School on 9417 3638 or email: [email protected] For more information about the new Perth Waldorf School Parkerville High School campus, please visit: https://www.pws.wa.edu.au//perth-waldorf-school-high-scho/
