25.01.2022 I just want to say a big thank you to my daughter Emily who was instrumental in getting the Bushfire Appeal up and running . Not only that, when we had all run out of puff she then organized the silent auction which is now open. ( check on our Samford and Surrounds Bushfire Appeal Facebook prize for details ) I'm sure Emily will be cross for me putting this up but please give her a thanks if you see her around Samford!!!!

23.01.2022 An estimated total of $20 000 raised for the Samford and Surrounds Bushfire Appeal!! We want to thank everyone for making yesterdays event such a success. From those who helped to organise, cooked, worked or performed there and all who attended and gave so generously- we could not be more grateful to you all! ... This figure of around 20K is more than we dreamed of raising. Weve been astounded and so humbled by this result, and this community and its surrounding areas - all have come together to raise this incredible amount in a short time. And we arent yet finished! Due to the generous donations we have received from businesses, individuals, local creatives and more, we are hosting a silent auction over the next couple of weeks. If you or your business would like to donate something for this auction we would be delighted, and there is still time! We will share details and links to the auction this week. The prizes are fabulous. There are also other great community events organised to raise more funds for this great cause through Samford Rangers Football Club, Snap Fitness Samford, Samford Stags, Pause (did you spot Greg singing on stage last night?), the QCWA Dayboro Funds for Firies & Wildlife Fundraiser and many more! So proud to be part of this very special community, and again we are overwhelmed by the amazing support - we feel very lucky to be surrounded by such caring people. 23.01.2022 Another wonderful donation Kelly and Paul Reuss and their amazing team at Injinji Performance Products have always been integral to the success of our local fundraising events. They have always been there to lend a hand with course marking, setting up on the day AND happily donating generous prizes. ... This year is no exception. For our Virtual Run fundraiser, Kelly and Paul have generously donated to our cause, Life for Wildlife. (Event and donation details are pinned there - please like and share!). You will find Paul and Kelly in their fabulous store next to the Samford Post Office, where you can browse all their stock. 22.01.2022 MEET THE CARER (and our president of LFW): Mel Pope I have been rescuing, caring and releasing native birds since I was a little girl. My Mum taught me when... I was around 8 years old, we took in all the neighbourhood birds that came into mischief, from Currawongs, fryer birds to Cockatoos and Galahs. I met my Partner John and from there I started to specialise in birds of prey - Rehabilitating Sea Eagles, Osprey, Wedge-Tailed Eagles, Falcons, Hawks and almost every Owl we have to offer and even Emu's. Each year we rehabilitate and release around 45 to 60 birds here at Kobble Bird Shelter. John has built all the rehabilitation facilities for me; I would not be able to do what I do without his help and support.

They (and their furry friends) were one of the most attractions of the day. 20.01.2022 SAMFORD FUN RUN NEWS ALERT Unfortunately Samford Fun Run 2020 will not go ahead in its traditional form- due to obvious reasons. But we are hoping everyone... will participate in our VIRTUAL fun run! To be held over the weekend of the 12th/13th of September. What we want everyone to do it a 5 or 10k run or walk that weekend and let us know you have done it any way you like! (Post a photo, write a comment, share your Strava results etc) We would also greatly appreciate a small donation of your choosing (anything you would like to donate) to our new beneficiaries- Life for Wildlife THIS YEAR ALL DONATIONS WILL GO TO Life for Wildlife! Life for Wildlife is a new local charity currently being formed!!...(one more box to tick with the ATO )that a dedicated group of locals have been busy setting up this year. This charity will be supporting local wildlife carers perform their important work. Did you know that there is no government funding provided to wildlife carers? This means that they have to personally pay for all food, medication, transport (most often to and from Australia zoo or the RSPCA transporting sick animals etc). This wildlife charity is planning to aid local carers by supplying enough funds to buy these essential items in bulk which will then allow local carers who belong to the charity to take advantage of these resources. We would love you to start by liking and sharing the Life for Wildlife Page (bear with us as the page is in its infancy).

Daily rescues mean daily specialised food and medication costs and regular trips to Australia Zoo. ... It really is a 24 hour job, and it’s all voluntary and unfunded by the government. 15.01.2022 TWO WEEKS TO GO Samford VIRTUAL Fun Run 12/13 September Now is the time to organise YOUR run, jog or walk with your friends or family! (5 or 10km).... Remember to let us know you have done it any way you like (post a photo, write a comment, share your Strava results etc)and wed love to share the fun on here We are amazed and excited to report that donations are already flooding in - over $1500 already!! So many generous contributions.. One for example from the Powerful Owl Book Club. So kind of them to forego their planned lunch, and instead donate the money to Life for Wildlife. Over $400! Remember this year our new beneficiaries are Life for Wildlife a new local charity which has been in the making for the last six months (just one more box to tick with the ATO and we are there! These things take tiiime ). It is being formed because we wanted to ease the financial burden for our registered carers, who cannot legally accept any donations when caring for our regions injured and orphaned wildlife. There are huge costs involved in rearing one animal to the stage of release and they receive no government funding. They pay all food, medications and transport costs themselves, including the regular drop offs and pickups to Australia Zoo and RSPCA - quite often several times a week! We would love to help our Moreton Bay regions unsung heroes perform their important work. This will allow our registered careers to be supplied with items they need and essential items in bulk, to make their job a little easier. Its going to be family friendly and fun class, that caters to everyone, and ALL fitness levels. So why not sign up to this event with your friends and family, and come and have some fun while fundraising for our fellow Australians. If just 50 people sign up for this event, Snap will donate $1000 to our appeal!!! So so generous. We love to support those that support our community, and Snap Fitness Samford are no exception. All money from specially chosen artworks donated to this cause will go to supporting our wildlife carers. The Life for Wildlife organisation will use the money for the essential supplies required to care for our injured wildlife. Dayboro Art Gallery has been an inspiring and beloved gallery for over 25 years. Supporting and promoting local artists many of whom are award winning. The gallery shows a variety of exciting and ever changing works to delight both locals and visitors to the area. We cannot thank you enough for your generosity Dayboro Art Gallery! As weve been unable to hold our annual event, we are keeping the spirit alive by going virtual!! Its been an interesting year... but wed still love for everyone to get outdoors next Saturday and and have some fun with their friends and family! Lets show our support while soaking up the Queensland sunshine (arent we lucky!!). Plan your 5km or 10km walk/run, and then share it with us! 05.01.2022 The Samford Fun Run and Life for Wildlife could not be more thrilled to thank Graham and Rebecca from Ampair Electrical for supporting us with a generous donat...ion yet again! They have been amazing supporters of the Fun Run since the very beginning. Both by their very kind donations as well as lending them selves (including their 3 helpful boys) to help on the day. They have done everything from setup/clean up to snow cones and most importantly Graham saving the day when we have had electrical issues (on more than one occasion). Many of us from the Fun Run team have had first hand experience with Ampair Electrical and could not recommend them enough. Graham does excellent work and is a thoroughly reliable electrician. 02.01.2022 13 days to go We are counting down until our virtual fun run on 12/13 September, and while we do lets meet one of our amazing wildlife carers Janet. ... Hi my name is Janet Stephens and Ive been a wild life carer for more than 25 years. Ive lived in Yugar, just outside of Samford Village, since 2001 and Ive recently joined the Life for Wildlife group which is a wonderful local initiative to help carers care for orphaned or injured native animals around the local area. Ive had the pleasure of caring for dozens of orphaned flying foxes (baby greys are my favourite!), orphaned ring tail and brush tail possums and injured native birds. I really enjoy looking after them, seeing them grow and recover and ultimately seeing them released back into the wild. One day I would like to care for larger native species like orphaned joey wallabies and other marsupials with the help of the Life for Wildlife group. I would really appreciate your help by donating to this worthy local cause so we can build shelters and buy food, medicine and other care equipment to provide these young animals with the best chance of surviving then thriving back in the wild. There is an ATM across the road from the event at Bendigo Bank as well as ATM's at the Caltex and Drakes Supermarket. We can't wait to see you all there!
