23.01.2022 For Crafty Tuesday this week, here is another simple Christmas present idea. How good does this key holder look? All you need is:... one old horse shoe some horse shoe nails a hammer a piece of wood 2 cans of spray paint in different colours (optional) a short length of fishing line or strong thread to attach to the back, using glue or small screw-in hooks like picture frames have. You can leave it rustic or paint the pieces first. This is even something you could make at Pony Club for - as one club calls it - a 'crafternoon' activity on a hot or wet day. We'd love to see your efforts! #craftytuesday

23.01.2022 Its PCA Crafty Tuesday and now that coats are shedding we thought you might like to make a scratching post for your horse. All you need is a brush, broom head ...or even a doormat and something solid to attach them to. You can tie large broom heads to trees with twine for a quick, temporary set up (handy if you agist) or get to work with hammer and nail for something more permanent. Remember not to attach the scratchers to something you dont want your horse to bend, or anything where your horse might get their tail or legs caught (so avoid fences, gates or shelter/stable walls). Show us your scratching posts below! #horse #enrichment #coat #shedding #handy #buttscratcher #grooming #welfare #craftytuesday

22.01.2022 Look what are ready for their first guests this weekend for our 50th Anniversary Gymkhana Weekend! A huge thank you to the local businesses who were part of building our amazing new stables: CJ Developments, Samford Hire, Squire Equipment, Base Fabrications and Gleam O Dawn Rural Store. And of course the support from Cr Darren Grimwade and Moreton Bay Regional Council for the $50,000 grant that enabled this project to happen.

20.01.2022 Twig Christmas trees are so easy and inexpensive to make with just a few branches or twigs, and some twine. You can then get creative by hanging any leftover de...corations from your real Christmas tree on the twigs. You will need: -Branches or twigs -Pruning shears -Twine -Scissors -Strong hook -Decorations -Spare twinkle lights (optional) To make: 1. Start by gathering up branches and twigs in different sizes. Leave them in a shed to dry out. When they are dry, line them up in size order to create a tree shape. You may need to cut some to size. 2. To keep the tree hanging straight and secure, tie three rows of twine to link the branches, keeping to your tree shape. Start at the top and work your way down. Take time to ensure each branch is as straight as its natural bends will allow. 3. Once complete, tie a loop of twine at the centre of the top branch and hang your tree from a strong hook. Thread some small baubles on twine and hang from the middle of the bottom branch with a decoration at the end to create the look of the tree trunk. Decorate the rest of the tree. ...and voilà! A space-saving Christmas tree that looks great on any blank wall! Photo credit: Annie Swan (VIC) Instructions source: https://www.prima.co.uk//how-to-make-a-twig-christmas-tree/

20.01.2022 Congratulations Emily on coming 9th in her very first ODE at Greenbank Pony Club yesterday which included clear Cross Country and Showjumping rounds. This has been a goal Emily has been working towards for about 3 years. Well done Em and Bodie!

19.01.2022 Make a low cost hay feeder Are you tired of your horse spilling his hay everywhere? Does he have to eat hay off muddy or dusty ground? Is he tough on haynets? T...hese plastic drums are great for making an economical feeder. Just make sure there are no sharp edges, you get it attached firmly and safely to a solid object, and you have a couple of holes drilled in the bottom for drainage. Also make sure, like all haynets and feeders, it is high enough that he cannot get a foot in it. #craftytuesday #recycling #hayfeeder #drumrecycle

19.01.2022 Have any pallets lying around? Upcycle these beauties to organise and store your brooms, rakes and shovels! You could even paint them in your favourite colours...... We'd recommend securing the top of the pallet to the wall behind where possible. #craftytuesday Source: Pinterest

15.01.2022 What would you like to ask an Olympic eventing gold medallist? It was like a fairy tale. Wendy Schaeffer 21, from SA won gold in Atlanta on Sunburst, her Pon...y Club horse. She had suffered a broken leg during training and it wasnt fulled healed, yet she strapped it up and rode anyway. Not only that, she was the best placed Australian, ahead of Phillip Dutton, Andrew Hoy and Gillian Rolton! Wendy is a guest judge for the PCA annual awards this year, but even better, she has agreed to be interviewed for the new Pony Club @Home series coming up soon. This series will present a host of famous, talented people from the horse industry who will be interviewed and asked your pre-submitted questions. Who do you want to hear from? Medallists? Farriers? Vets? Vet Nurses? Breeders of top horses? What is it like being based overseas? Journalists? Strappers for international riders? If you are thinking of a career in horses, you might want to ask questions about what is involved. So now is your chance. In the Comments, add your questions for Wendy, and anyone else youd like to hear from and we will see what we can do for you. You will be able to log in and view the interviews on our website later this year. You might even hear your name! You can also email your personality suggestions and your questions to [email protected] #ponyclubathome #equestrianinterviewspca

05.01.2022 The Community Health Challenge is back for 2020! Will Stingrays win again or can we knock them off? Last year we came 3rd! Run by sponsor TerryWhite Chemmart Samford, there is $1750 up for grabs for the healthiest groups in our community. This challenge is about people checking in on their own health to benefit a local school / group in our community. Its very simple... 1.People come in during August for a health check and receive a score at the end of their health check. 2. Health Check costs $30 and we donate $5 back to the club / group they are representing. It normally takes 15-20 minutes to conduct. Health Check includes Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Diabetes Assessment and Lifestyle Assessment. 3. At the end of the month the groups that have 10 or more contributors are in the running for the prize money. We will average everyones scores in that team and reach an overall score for each team. The team with the highest av score will win $1000, 2nd place $500 and 3rd place $250 Last year was so much fun as groups had great banter about who was the healthiest group in our community. We still need a team of 10 or more parents or members over 18 to check in on your own health to benefit others. If you can participate, please let us know. You can book in your health check by Aug 31 at www.theclinichub.com.au/booknow

02.01.2022 Huge congratulations to Arabella for placing second overall in the USDF International Dressage Competition as part of the Pony Club Australia team!

02.01.2022 "" "". " 80 " " "... " , " How many of us have said something similar to the above? I have uttered every single one of these phrases, and then some. The worst one was when I won a 80cm SJI Championship - I felt so proud, and then this small voice in the back of my head said " , 80". Today Im here to tell myself and everyone else that we need to stop saying "only" and "just" when we talk about our efforts and achievements. We work damn hard. We show up in the early mornings, late at night, in rain wind and hail. We worry about our horses feed, we get physios vets and farriers to mind and monitor them. We read everything on the internet to better educate ourselves, and we get lessons to become the best we can be. We care deeply about our horses and work hard to ride them the best we can. We ride and compete at a level that we are capable of, and that is safe for us to have fun and be competitive at. So no, we are not "just" doing a certain level or class. We worked hard and we have every right to be proud of the journey it took to get there, and of our achievements. There is no threshold for qualification to be considered a "real" rider or competitor. If you enter an arena at A and proceed down the centre line, you are doing dressage. If you enter an arena and jump a course of fences, you are showjumping. If you do a dressage test, jump a course of fences, and go cross country, you are eventing. Do not diminish the work, love and care that you put into this sport. Do not minimise your accomplishments, or belittle what its taken you to get to where you are today. When you say "just" or "only", you dont just minimise your own accomplishments or put yourself down, you also set an example to others that they too are "just" and "only". You are not "just". You are not "only". You are. So go do it. Enjoy it. Smash it
