24.01.2022 This German Wagon came from Kobble Creek where the Pringle Family settled around 1888. It would have been used to carry produce, the family, collecting goods or going over the Samford range to Brisbane. It was donated by Trev Jones and Ross Pickering. The wagon was made of timber with sides that sloped outwards to help stable the load. This wagon has been lovingly restored by Samford Museum volunteers with painting by Alan Morris & Nigel Hayward.

21.01.2022 On Monday 5 May 1947 the Labour Day holiday, a train sat at the platform at Brisbanes Central Station, ready for the passengers to step aboard. The time was 8....57 in the morning. The train was the passenger train the E91. The train was taking passengers to Closeburn via the scenic country for a picnic, dance and a game of cricket. By 10.00am disaster had struck the train at Camp Mountain near Samford. It became the worst rail disaster in Queenslands History with 16 people losing their lives. Weve put together this story and timeline of Shorthand using the accounts and documents in the Inquiry into the accident. Youll hear from Colin Woodland, Gladys Heap and Leslie McCormick on the events of that day. If you havent had a chance to have a read of the full story then head to Shorthand for the full details! http://qldstatearchives.shorthand.com/campmountain/

09.01.2022 1936 November-BUSHFIRES HOLD UP MOTORISTS ON SAMFORD ROAD. With a recurrence of fires to-day at Bunya, some distance beyond the forestry reserves, which were swept a week or so ago, between 300 and 400 acres of valuable grass lands, owned by several farming families were lost. The road to Samford was rendered impassable for more than a mile. Several of a smallband of fire fighters, led by a policeman, were trapped for a time but escaped without injury. These, fires, which det...royed perhaps the greater part of the grasses which escaped the recent blazes, started from a small fire lighted on a farm last night to burn the carcase of a beast. It got out of hand this morning and spread rapidly. To Constable Morris, of the Mitchellon police station, again fell the work of organising a band of fighters when he was advised of the blaze soon after he had returned from another fire at Ferny Grove, in which a man narrowly escaped with his life. FARMERS TURN OUT TO FIGHT BLAZE.. He and several farmers and members of their families, including Messrs.Thomas Draper, Normal McKavanagh. Sheahy and others, made an early attack on the spreading fire, cutting breaks for half a mile or so to hem the main blaze in between the Samford Road and the Pine River. After a six-hour battle they had the fire almost checked, when high winds spread their front and caused them to leap the break a chain wide and the Samford Road. With hundreds of acres of grass lands before it the blaze roared away from the small band of fighters, who were forced to watch their labours rendered powerless while their only herbage lands swiftly became blackened. usless in a few minutes, and to remain This afternoon saw the rather unusual sight of motor traffic being directed by a police officer In the bush about 18 miles from the city. As car after car arrived at a spot near Drapers farms they were diverted and returned as the main road for a mile was fire bound. FIGHTERS HAVE NARROW ESCAPE. At the height of the fire Constable Morris became trapped for a time, and had to race the flames to the road to make his escape. Gaining the rather doubtful shelter of the roadway with one second to spare, he heard shouts and was just able to discern Mr. Draper lying down amid the dense smoke. The officer naturally Imagined that the man was overcome, and was preparing to dash back when Draper arose and struggled out. This farmer had got down as low as possible to douse his head and face with water before making a final dash through the flames.[ TElegraph 14th nov 1936] See more

Local boy, Sydney James Fogg, who enlisted underage, was involved in the battle. He returned home on April 19, 1919. Drop in Sunday or Wednesday to view this spectacular addition to the Samford Museum.
