11.05.2022 ANZAC DAY 2022 COMMUNITY AND PARTICIPANTS: Deadline for wreath laying requests Wednesday 20 April... ANZAC Day is the solemn day of remembrance for those Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who fought and died at Gallipoli in 1915. It is also a day of remembrance for all soldiers who have fought and died for their country. The Samford RSL Sub-Branch extends a warm welcome for all to attend the 2022 Anzac Day Memorial Service that will be held at our Samford Avenue of Honour (AoH) on 25 April 2022. This year ANZAC Day falls on a Monday. Please note: Organisations/groups who wish to march and/or lay a wreath must email Mr Mark Orreal at [email protected] with the correct name of the person laying the wreath and organisation/groups marching by no later than Wednesday 20 April 2022. This deadline is important to ensure that we can plan for each group attending and create a sign so you are correctly identified. Covered seating will be available for Veterans, disabled and the elderly. Dignitaries and disabled parking will be accessible from Burton Lane and will be controlled by the Queensland Police service and assisted by the Samford Rural Fire Brigade. General parking will be accessible near the soccer grounds and across the road at the tennis courts. The RSL Sub-Branch strives to make ANZAC Day significant and memorable. We hope you will join with us in commemorating this important day in our history. 18.01.2022 Armistice Day is on 11 November and is also known as Remembrance Day. It marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918. A two-minute silence is held at 11am to remember the people who have died in wars. After the service everyone is invited back to the RSL House on the corner of Main St & Progress St for fellowship and wellbeing activities.

12.01.2022 ANZAC Day Service 2021. Unfortunately the Service at the Avenue of Honour will not be held this year due to the difficulty of complying with the Covid-19 restrictions. Although it has been stated that 'Anzac Day is back to normal' this is not the case, as there are conditions placed on the running of the Service that make it extremely difficult for us to do it in a safe and legal manner. This is a major disappointment to both the RSL members and the general public. The members and committee of the Samford RSL look forward to being able to successfully stage the ANZAC Day Service in 2021 but that will depend on the circumstances at that time. Bill Gibson, Secretary

11.01.2022 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all from The president and members of RSL Samford

07.01.2022 Sorry, but due to lack of responses from members we have cancelled our Surprise Function Night EVENT.

06.01.2022 ANZAC DAY 2020 The Memorial Service at the Avenue of Honour is Cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The safety of the public is of paramount importance and the health of our elderly cannot be put at risk by running the Service this year. This will be the first time that an Anzac Day Service has not been held in Samford since WW2. Remember that the Service in Canberra will be held in a closed format and will be broadcast live on TV. There will be no functions held at the Samford RSL on the day.
