Follow all instructions given by the coach in regards to student interactions. 3, Avoid physical contact with the coaches and other students as much as possible. 4. Wash you hands regularly with soap then use hand sanitiser. 5. Do not share drink bottles with anyone. Hopefully with the above safety measures we can continue to run tennis for our community and mitigate the risk of the virus. Thanks for your help and support. -The Samford Tennis Club

19.01.2022 Were trialling a slightly different fixtures format on Thursdays in Term 1 2019, as outlined below. We encourage fill-ins, new, past and current players to contact Jessica on 0466 883 899 asap. Three sets of doubles (mixed, womens or mens). Players will be graded and allocated into teams. Each player has a different partner for each set.... Once player numbers and makeup are known, the final play format will be decided. For example, if there are two men and two women in opposing teams, then each player will play two mixed doubles and either a mens doubles or womens doubles. See more

With 13 teams of 4 players each, competing in the prestigious event the competition attracted not only the best players but the best coaches from around QLD. The team competed at KDV at the Gold Coast on clay throughout the event and boasted a 27-3 win loss ratio to take the title and two of the four players remaining undefeated throughout the event. The kids had an amazing time learning new skills on the clay and receiving added knowledge from having a coach on court with them at all times talking tactics. 04.01.2022 WOW! I’m lost for superlatives to describe how amazing our kelvin grove teams are. The boys suffered some heartbreak with injuries and match point chances earned but not taken. The boys finishing a very respectable 5th in the country but had matchpoint’s against the team that came second. Our girls team reigning national champions were given a tough pool, seeding of 5 and scraped through by one set to the semis. With a young team we were hoping for a top four finish as our go...al. But nobody told our girls that. They went on to win the semi and Face the heavyweights in the final. Needing both doubles ties to win the match the girls were on court for over 5.5 hours giving their all and fighting to the very end. Win or lose I was extremely proud and inspired by the heart shown on court. In true Queensland fashion and against all the odds our young girls team kept finding more and more as they played the best doubles match of their lives to win back to back national titles! There’s a lot of downs and challenges in every sport but today was a very special day and one I will never forget. Congratulations girls and thanks for taking this old bloke along for the ride. You deserve to be national champions and it’s been a pleasure watching your dedication and hard work pay off. - coach Jesse Catterall on our association with kelvin grove school teams. See more

04.01.2022 Way to go Alex!

04.01.2022 We are very proud of our three shave for a cure philanthropists. A massive $2519 was raised for leukaemia by these legends and what better way to celebrate, then all your hair being taken off and a picture with some outrageous glasses. We are all proud of your efforts and achievements for this wonderful cause. Thank you to the community and everyone who supported the team to give their hard earned money to this wonderful cause.

03.01.2022 This week some of our students at the club representing the Kelvin Grove School of Excellence travelled to Albury to compete in the 2019 Australian Championships. With both the boys and girls teams qualifying for the event a large group set out in hopes of becoming Australian Champions and progressing to the world championship held in Italy. The stakes have never been so high and the competition so competitive. Led by coach Jesse Catterall in the Davis cup style format where ...the coach can talk to the players at each change of ends, the coaches job became that much more important. The boys team led by local Samford Tennis club squad player and open tennis champion at the club Ryan Wang finished in third position for the first time and took out the bronze medal. Not to be outdone by the boys the girls led by captain Naomi McKenzie our open ladies champion reached the final where they would play the defending Australian and world champions in Meriden College who have dominated the event for the past decade. Competing against players ranked much higher and older than our girls, we went in as overwhelming under dogs. But in true Queenslander fashion no one told our girls they werent supposed to win! They fought with everything they had and took a 3-1 lead after the singles matches into the doubles. Only needing to win one more match to wrap up victory and the championship our local Samford Tennis Club players Naomi McKenzie and Sydney Stone partnered together. After losing the first doubles tie and knowing we would most certainly lose on a count back it was a must win doubles match for the Samford pairing. A strong start saw us take the first set convincingly but the reigning champions fought back to take a strong lead in the second and looked poised to take the set. After some brilliant volleying our girls came back out of nowhere to take a thrilling win, the Australian championship and book a place at the World Championships in Italy! Congratulations to everyone involved and its great to see our Australian champions at the club every Wednesday night at our elite squad ran by Southern Cross Tennis.

03.01.2022 There are many great honours in the game of tennis and sport, but one stands above all the rest. The opportunity and honour to represent your Country. That special moment where you realise you are playing for Australia. Our young superstar Sydney Stone has done just that at 13 years of age. Sydney was selected by Tennis Australia to tour Europe representing Australia. Sydney has just returned from a Europe tour competing against the best 14 year olds in the world. Despite ca...tching pneumonia, Sydney kept fighting through to the final of the doubles in her last event. Sadly the severity of the illness took away the opportunity of taking out the title. Never the less this young star represented her country with pride, passion and heart. Congratulations Sydney, we look forward to seeing you around the club, what the rest of the year holds for you and we are so proud of you! See more

03.01.2022 Our coaching team at the club was lucky enough to have a private session with Darren Cahill. Darren is the former coach of Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi and is current coach of Simona Halep. With credentials this prestigious its easy to see why he is rated one of the best coaches in the world. A massive reward for the team after winning coach of the year for the second year running at the annual Tennis Queensland awards.
