21.01.2022 Most of your clients want fast service and they want to feel certain that when they are dealing with you that they are going to receive great quality service. Here are a couple of things you can do to help create certainty and get more quality jobs: 1) Emphasise that you offer fast, efficient service in your marketing.... 2) Respond to calls quickly and get back to people fast. 3) Let your clients know when they can expect you to arrive. The more specific the time the better. 4) Let your clients know how long they can expect the job to take. 5) Be clear about your payment terms up front. (No point in doing the job and not getting paid right) Having some simple systems in place and quality staff makes this much easier. 15.01.2022 What’s your hourly rate? This is such a loaded question isn’t it? An hourly rate actually penalises you for being efficient. The quicker you do the job, the less you get paid, take too long and your clients feel like you are ripping them off. If you charge by the hour, that’s ok, you don’t need to flick a switch overnight and change the way you do business but it’s definitely worth planning on transitioning.... Think of it like a mixer tap, over a period of time you are going to move the lever over so that more and more of your jobs are charged for based on the outcomes you deliver. As you become more efficient, have new and improved systems, you make more profit, you can afford to attract the right kind of people to work for you, which means you make even more money and so the cycle starts to flow. A great starting point is charging people for call outs. We have used a really simple script which makes doing this easy.

11.01.2022 When I first met Pete and Damo just over a year ago, Pete said to me, "we’re OK mate, we are just going to double down, we are bloody good plumbers and we can make this work." After another 6 months of giving it a go, they realized that they were still stuck, it was like "deju vu" or what I like to say "Day Ju Pooh" same shit different day! So, they reached out and we scheduled a time to have a quick chat and to see if I could help them and how we could work together. The... good news is Pete and Damo are bloody good plumbers, but their business had some minor flaws. No matter how hard they were willing to work they would not be able to get their business to work for them. We made a couple of small changes that had a massive impact on their business. Some of these things included getting really clear about the type of work they did, who they did work for (and who they didn’t do work for) as well as how they got paid and when they got paid. We put together a really simple marketing plan that immediately generated more of the right work and we also put some simple systems in place making it super easy for them to track how they were doing financially each week. 6 months later, Pete and Damo look like "the cat that swallowed the canary". Business has become fun, profitable and they have had time off to go fishing, mountain biking as well as camping with their families.

07.01.2022 I bet you often tell people what you do, do. But how often do you tell them what you don’t do? When you complete a job quickly it is important to let your client know you haven’t cut corners. A great way to do this is through good communication before, during and after a job. ... Make sure you let your clients know what you are going to do and definitely let them know what you have done. This can be done onsite or followed up with a phone call or e-mail afterwards. Taking photos of the work is also a very helpful way of letting people know what you have done. Let your clients know you don’t cut corners, your years of experience, the training you provide, the systems you follow and if you really want to take things to another level then put a strong, compelling guarantee in place and just keep telling everyone about it all the time!

06.01.2022 How many times have you asked yourselfwhere did the time go? That terrible feeling of shit it’s the end of the day already or the end of the week already or the end of the financial year already and I just haven’t got done the stuff I need to do! I understand it is really easy to get caught up doing the urgent stuff but not the important stuff.... Here are a few things you can do to help break that cycle: 1) Track what you do with your existing time every 30 minutes. 2) Classify time quoting, calls, e-mails, team, sales, driving. 3) Design your ideal week chunk, daily scrum get the day started right, weekly meeting,- short and sweet, set time for e-mail, set times for meetings, quoting. 4) Put value on your time pricing, marketing, systems, relationship building. 5) Plan the week on Mondays or even Sunday, plan the day the day before.
